Where are the Chubby NPCs in ED?

So you're saying that when a faction enters a famine state, it's because someone ate all the (space) pies?

To stay OT, I agree with OP, height & weight and other things are good to have as options for avatars. I don't see it as a priority though, but it would be a good thing.
It would be that the food available has run scarce / well below the amount to provide basic sustenance to the population.

I don't mean to rub anyone the wrong way, growing up I always struggled with my weight and still find it a challenge although my second favorite activity besides gaming is going to the gym 😅

is quite standard
I'm sorry, but I have never seen (and history too) real chubby astroauts. Mostly because to become astronaut, you need to be sporty. Otherwise, your body just will not handle it.
So situation in ED is pretty scientifically correct.
But one thing is still here: absolutely all characters in game have the same height. And this can't be explained in a rational (i mean "lore" thing, not actual engine limitations) way. =)

But (2) if talk in a serious way.... Well, some "physical body" customization may be wonderful (but absolutely not really necessery) impovement that may heat up more interest to Odyssey.

Great. All we need is a thread about chubby NPC’s getting stuck in settlement areas because they are too fat. Blocking access to blah blah blah. Can’t fit into the new chairs, (which now come with the new “sittable” feature!). Body parts clipping thru suits. Mass traffic jams…

Nope, I’m not supporting it.

The explorers who crossed oceans to reach the Americas were fit. Fast forward, the US obesity prevalence was 42.4% in 2017 – 2018.
People who live in stations and settlements will have a variety of body shapes. Only a fraction will be pilots or astronauts.

Aah, not about to forget the (base game) launch trailer, which kicked right off with a hangar door opening for a bunch of commanders of different heights. :7

Yeah there should be more NPC height variety in ED.

As I understand it, the obesity epidemic in recent years is mainly due to the increased sugar (or High Fructose Corn Syrup) consumption.
Like 300%(?) increase compared to many decades ago.

If so, this should be an easy fix in the future.

Sure, but while the Elite universe is a dystopia it is a European dystopia. I.e. still cheerier than US realities. :p

It adds a ton of work making alternate body shapes and sizes as well as clothing for them. Many games tend to go for a one-size-fits-all approach.

I can imagine a future where obesity is no longer a thing. But no height difference between male and female? That's just weird.

I remember some lore reason for this, which has probably been completely ignored by everyone since and has nothing to do with Odyssey. I just recall some interview or discusson years ago with Braben or perhaps Michael Brookes saying that it was the effects of multiple generations living in low gravity or something.
