Bhal. It's Federal, it's near to Diaguandri, it's on the edge of the Bubble. Fits my needs well.
Eotienses -> Kaufmanis Dock is my home port, where the majority of my fleet resides.
I've considered relocating to a couple of other locations - like Shinrarta Dehzra, once I hit Elite - but they aren't as conveniently located. This port is very close to a lot of the high value trade routes in Imperial Space. It's also close to couple of the systems that (pre 2.1) were good for Imperial rep grinding. It's not far from the Fed systems my friends are in... well, it's closer than other Imperial systems I might choose.
It was initially chosen because it was one of the stations where you could buy (thanks Denton Patreus) Imperial ships for 10% off. It stuck as my home base both because of it's stellar location (previous paragraph) and because the station is 56 ls from the star; this made "coming home" to switch ships speedy.
Downside: every station in this system has crappy outfitting. You can buy your ship here, but you often need to take it to a nearby system just to get it upgraded enough to make it to one of Li's systems for the 15% discount.
Upside: Due to everything I did pre-2.1, all the factions in this system (and most nearby systems) ' love me. I can usually get 2-3 1+ million credit jobs to deliver, usually to the same station, stuff to Mictlan, which is only 12 ly away. It's a nice little perk for some quick cash, but don't make a habit of running missions back and forth.
The odd: I was pledged to ALD in 2.0, but my home base is the capital of one of her friendly rivals, Denton Petreus.

I actually returned to LHS 3447 for my "home base" after participating in the Bluford Orbital CG. I figured since I helped "build" the station it might as well be "home". There was some "nostalgia" heading back to the game's starting point and seeing how different everything seemed since I started the game. I am a little annoyed that an anarchy faction is in control of the station and I actually ended up unfriendly with them for a while after cashing in a lot of their bounties from RES hunting but I've ran enough small missions with them to regain "neutral" status. I don't think I'll ever move because now I have 5 ships stationed there and with the exception of the vulture each of them has a good enough FSD range that they can get most places fairly quickly now, not to mention that LHS 3447 is close enough to Sol and Achenar to be fairly centrally located within the bubble.
