Who else DOESN'T hunt thargoid interceptors, and why not?

Nope. Can’t be bothered to refit my ship with all the special weapons and bits.
The guardian puzzles and structures are pretty fun. Worth a trip even if you don’t want to unlock everything.

it’s genuinely the best SRV gameplay. Just throw a point defense on the top of whatever ship you want to use and start blasting away with the srv

We should leave them alone... they're artists and farmers that were in the galaxy long before humans so we should respect their space.
Shooting them feels a bit like something for high-fiving-blood-thirsty-yahoo-yelling hunter types to do to get their fix, not for civilised members of the galaxy.

(I also hate driving around guardian remains in the nasty SRV so can't be bothered to get the special weapons).

The thargoids have a nasty habit of boiling civilized members of the galaxy inside their own stations.

I don’t care who was there first. I am there now and I cannot abide such filth running rampant. They are tyrants and they will suffer a tyrants fate

(and they make a better popping noise than human ships 😁)

I couldn't be bothered with this whole AX weapon thing and them not working on human ships etc. That and all this "wait for the hearts to appear" stuff which seems like contrived 80's video game stuff.

Some of them are working perfectly fine, especially since the AX seeker missile is turreted (the normal seeker isn't). Happen to have them equipped my fat^H^Hlarge transporter and they harass pirates just fine who think that my six is undefended.
Problem is to synthesize the ammunition, making the AX weapons not a good choice for longer expeditions where there are no stations to refill.

I get the feeling that some people have been watching the ultra core AX pilot videos where they are taking on multiple hydras at a time. For these engagements you most certainly do need to synth both ammo and heatsinks. Like others, this is not for me...but this isn't the be all and end all of interceptor combat.
I use a Phantom with 4 x Gauss Cannons, no AMFU and no heatsinks. Only two Gauss Cannons active at any one time.
I can kill 3 Cyclops before I run out of ammo on two of my Gauss cannons, at which point I switch to the other two. So that's 6 cyclops before I have to go back to the station to rearm and repair.
I've killed upwards of 100 cyclops and not once have I had to synth a single sausage.

I tried a hydra once...and it showed me who's boss and I hastily did a brave sir robin...I'm a complete amateur compared to AX pilots like @Katie Byrne :D

Better than fully engineered fixed beams or multi-cannons? I don't doubt your assessment wrt to your post but I'm talking in the context of loadouts for combat ships such as my Corvette and whether or not it can hold it's own against well armed players.

<...> hold it's own against well armed players.
Sorry, but in regard of (PvP) fighting I am definetly the wrong to ask, but maybe some of the experts can take over (maybe in a different thread, since this thread is about whacking aliens).
What I learned in this forum so far is that fixed weapons pack the most whomp, provided you can aim and fly. Which I can't and therefore do not bother with.

You sir, are a very naughty boy.
I'll be writing a strongly worded poem to your superiors.

HIGHLY subjective. What you find "fun" and "best SRV gameplay" I find "tedious" and "worst SRV gameplay". So like matter and antimatter, we just cancelled each other out.

I'm not an AX veteran, sure, I've splatted numerous scouts, but never an interceptor. Why? Having done the homework on AX combat, and thus learning that the correct tools for the job are guardian rail-gun like gauss cannon weapons, which don't have enough ammo to kill an interceptor, meaning you have to synthesise ammo on the fly, I was like am I frack going forraging for mats to burn as ammo. And that was it, scout splatter extraordinaire, particularly in my alts, but I'm wondering who else doesn't hunt the big bugs and what are their reasons?
lack of small AX weapons in the game so i dont bother.

Sorry to contradict, but every weapon you carry around is a military variant, AFAIK.
There are no "hunting lasers" with just a two-shot ammo clip to bring down a low temperature deer (or void elephant).

Your perception of what denotes a "military" weapon is deeply flawed.

Pretty much every fixed weapon on a military vessel gets it's ammunition from a central magazine-store.
It isn't unreasonable to expect that 34th century spaceships should have the same capability.

And, besides, from a gameplay POV it would, at least, give combat pilots something to think about if there was a useful alternative to filling every unused slot with yet another HRP/MRP/SCB/GSB.

I've heard of these "Thargoid" things. Never seen 'em.
Actually, I really haven't seen a Thargoid ship. I have seen their barnacles though.
Xeno killing is not part of my game play. Besides, I feel sorry for them. Afterall it is us who are invading their territory.

Been there done that; barely registers on my fun meter. Which makes me glad this is optional and not forced.

As for combat rank, much easier ways to get elite combat than killing scouts.....

When I was out in Colonia I was desperately short of mat's to I spent some time culling Belugas, for the mat's, and I was really surprised to see find that I went from 50% Deadly to Elite in a couple of hours... and gained a huge heap of mat's in the process.
The only "trick" is to find a tourist beacon in an Anarchy system, which allows you to keep on exploding passenger ships without legal ramifications.
