Who else finds the botched VR on foot implementation, literally nauseating?

Well to be fair, the PS4 reached the end of its life as a platform on the 19th of November 2020 when it was supplanted by the PS5, so I think it highly likely that the state of PS4 VR will remain on the negative side of "no immeidate plans" and or "nothing to announce at this time". Meanwhile back at the ranch y'all's lumbered with the grey burqa assaulting your vestibular system every time the player moves their head and the "cinematic virtual flat screen" remains still meaning the eyes and inner ear disagree on whiskey tango foxtrot is happening.
Can't say much about SONY as I don't have a PS4. They are a big company and still support PS3 titles last I heard, but that is pre-VR, so who knows what they'll do regarding VR support on PS4.
I can't see them dropping it anytime soon though as PS4 games will run on PS5 anyway and there are quite a few successful VR titles out there.
Again, we'll just have to wait and see.

Yet, the game is still working through numerous issues.
Like I said, gonna take some time. Hopefully we'll hear more on that soon.
Define "working"?

Maybe I misunderstand. Do you mean that devs are working through issues? That seems correct. If, on the other hand, you mean that Odd has been working in VR while they do so, not so much. It even failed to work in pancake mode.

I played Horizons in VR. I'd say that worked. Odd didn't at launch. After waiting and waiting, I took one of those breaks so many people suggested. Now I'm back, and some things have actually changed for the better. If I just sit still on a planet enjoying the view I get almost 90 fps. Think about moving the joystick and the game starts having hick-ups.

Also, coming back, it's noticeable that Frontiers promise of a new communication strategy was an empty promise, just like all the times before the Odd launch. Can't say I'm surprised. Just disappointed.

Well it's not my game nor my company. I'm just one of the suckers who fell for the marketing hype and paid for roughly nothing VR wise at launch. As discussed earlier, customers can live without Frontier. Frontier can't live without customers. On the other hand, Frontier can deliver what they promised, and then we can all live happily ever after. That's how it works. Hopefully they will do so, but then again, "hope is not a strategy".

Took a break since launch of Odyssey and came back and started playing last week. I realised the way I play in VR, almost all of Odyssey is bypassed. I rarely land on planets, so I get to view the improved planets from space and that is it. On my rig the performance does not seem any worse than Horizons.

It is only particularly noticable on bodies with installations, although some very verdant Bio sites can hammer the FPS a little.

I would suggest dropping down to play SRV on bodies with Argon Rich or Ammonia atmospheres... Actually, both would be fun! VR will function 'normally' unless you disembark from the SRV, although framerate may be impacted, depending on your HMD.

So there's going to be a PS5 version now?
"No immediate plans" - so if you ask the fanbois to step down from their white armoured horses, which they use to trample dissident peons like me, they will tell you this means it hasn't been ruled out so we / they should quit grumbling; but if you ask me...

Some dude started a campaign asking frontier to pledge to revisti VR after bugfixing Odyssey, looks like he got ran outta here...

Bestestest VR ever. Can't tell the difference to non-VR and that's why it's so good.
To quote Katy Byrne, Star citizen on monitor is more immersive than Elite in VR. And if your computer has the schutzpah, and you can tolerate the alpha "quality", there is VorpX

If you call a ban "ran outta here", I guess you are correct... (extrapolation only... as otherwise he left right in the middle of the next 'campaign' plan)
ETA: If it was just a 3 monther, I'd expect him back on the forum pretty soon.

Probz best I say nowt lest I'm the next one thrown out...

...I mean, the dude made mistakez, but the judgements on his actions were probz less lenient becoz he'd stuck his head so far above the parapet.
No, it doesn't work that way...

A ban (it isn't a perma-ban otherwise the legend "Banned" would appear after his name) will happen if a forum rule / rules have been violated sufficiently to make it the only option, particularly as the member is able to appeal the action if they consider it unfair, with the decision being assessed by Frontier staff should an appeal be raised.

It wasn't being visible that was the error, it was disregard for forum rules.

Neither you nor me will be thrown out for discussing another member's absence, only if a couple of very obvious rules are broken.

IIRC there was going to be zero VR support when on foot, requiring you to take off your headset when disembarking.
The 2D-view-in-VR mode was a compromise we asked for so we wouldn’t have to continually remove and put our headsets back on, which would be a pain.
But essentially Odyssey on-foot isn’t really in VR at all.

Correct and FDev stated this from the beginning with the statement in June of 2020. Just the VR that you had in flight in Horizons.

I've NEVER seen anyone with the banned tag on here? Maybe they don't use it anymore? I still think this place is a lot darker and more politicised now than it was way back when I woz but a lurker, bran tse malory organised the communities weekends and ben ryder pusched his keyboard only schema and advocated pranav antal

Originally Odyssey wasn't going to do anything in VR "but Horizons will remain VR compatible" was the official party line.

VR is the sole reason why alot of cmdrs play elite.
For the uninitiated, it's impossible to convey the 1st experience. Words just don't exist...
Suffice to say (assumption good headset) it changes your gaming forever.
I've not touched another title since my baptism of elite VR.
Why would l ? Nothing comes close.
VR has to be experienced ingame before you can criticise it.
And of course once experienced you just cannot find fault (oddity problems aside) with it.
The dodgy view on foot isn't perfect nor is it VR.
And until they pull it off ill tolerate it. Hasn't stopped me looting bases and farming mats.
I know there's alot of problems ingame. The direction it's going in is to me the major one.
Optimisation the 2nd.
I hope they get back on track and we end up with a title that's within keeping of the spirit of the game.
