Why do I have to go to Reddit in order to find "official" information?

Thank you for the response Harvey. Still uncomfortable with the fact that even Twitter is used, but I do understand.
You're uncomfortable with the fact that FDev uses Twitter? Also that unofficial info is posted on reddit by non-Fdev people? But this is all FDev's fault, clearly...

Mole, I'm not insulting you, nor am I going to argue with you. I was replying to Paige Harvey in the second half of my post.
However, maybe you should have replied using the name "Paige" instead of "Harvey" as Paige is her first name? Just a friendly suggestion...

Perhaps you all should get involved with the Reddit then, if only to stop the spread of misinformation. I just went on the first time for myself and I've got to say it is incredibly misleading seeing a big green sticky by the "EDMods" giving out all kinds of very specific info.

Also, just browsing through briefly I do see replies to topics being made by what appears to be actual developers. Are these imposters?
Hi, Reddit mod here - which parts of the sticky contents are misinformation and/or misleading?

I don't use Twitter so I don't know what is posted but if info is being communicated there that isn't here, then yes of course I'm not comfortable with it. Why would I look to unofficial channels for official information.

Up until now I was under the assumption that the developers were involved with the Reddit (shame on me for making assumptions). However, now I understand that the developers aren't involved with the Reddit, even though they do use it...which, honestly, just makes things more convoluted.

I do use Twitter, and for what it's worth I've not seen anything official there that wasn't also posted here.

The Elite Dangerous twitter is an official channel, as is their Facebook page.

While it is completely independent, /r/EliteDangerous is the largest, most active and varied Elite community, so FDev would be incredibly foolish not to communicate with our users. Thankfully, the community team and devs are quite active there, and we regularly hold Ask-Me-Anything sessions (a staple of Reddit) with FDev team members.

The bit about the consoles being "expected" to have the patch in "March". From what I'm being told here nowhere has there been any kind of timeline discussed. Correct me if I'm out of line here but conjecture and speculation should usually be left out of what, at least on the surface, appears to be an official piece of news.

Nobody can say when the patch goes live. This is dependent on how the beta goes. I doubt even FDEV know.

Let me just recap some things we know from previous betas:

- It usually runs for 2-3 weeks
- It is PC/Mac only
- It runs on a separate test server, all progress made during the beta is lost at the end of the beta
- After it finishes, FDEV need some time to make adjustments
- (Optional: If the beta went poorly, there might be need for another shorter beta to test those adjustments)
- Patch is released roughly at the same time on all platforms (which may or may not be March)

/r/EliteDangerous moderator accounts (green highlight) are not flaired with a Frontier logo like official FDev accounts are (red highlight), so any confusion as to whether we moderators make "official" statements or not is on the user, especially if an official source is not included.

Beyond Chapter One was originally announced to arrive in Q1 (which ends on 31st March). Previous betas have lasted between 3 and 6 weeks, with both 2.3 and 2.4 lasting 6 weeks. If the current beta lasts 5 or 6 weeks then 3.0 will go live to all CMDRs during the first or second week of March. If the beta lasts 9 weeks it'll arrive in the final week of March. "Expected to arrive in March" is a valid statement for an unofficial community, and if it arrives sooner then that's a welcome bonus.

Fdev's twitter account IS an official channel of information, and they obviously don't communicate things exclusively/randomly through one channel and not others. Next time you want to whine about something on the forums maybe ask yourself if the problem actually only exists in your own mind.

I have been playing for well over a year. I don't use Reddit at all, I don't like the format.

I do recognize that making that choice does leave me out of the loop on a lot of information.

What? It's ok for a Reddit moderator to be passive aggressive and look down on me for not being a Reddit user, but it's not ok for me, someone with no need to save face, to be passive aggressive in return? Come off it.
Tbf, how did you see our sticky if you're not a Reddit user? :p

You know, something really bothers me about this statement.

Why should the developers be forced to seek out the community, as opposed to the community seeking out the developers? This makes absolutely no sense to me.

Edit:
If you read the entire thread you'd see that I've, just in the course of this conversation, made a Reddit account and checked for myself after hearing about the sticky from a friend.
