PvP Why do people Kill you for no reason

I’ll agree that next to the FDL, the FAS is more or less the next in line. It’s quite popular in PvP.

That said, you don’t have to fly something silly and ineffective to be considered good at PvP combat.

You aren’t going to beat a wing of property built corvettes in your Cobra. Toy with them, sure, but beat them? Nah. You can go battle beluga on people, and maybe beat some average pilots in average ships, but a competent pilot in a well built medium is gonna dump on you.

Aint nothin but the facts.

I was going to do the CG, as soon as I jumped into the system CNDR [Redacted] Interdicted me, I ended up boosting away but he did it again. And I always thought I was pretty good at beating interdictions, but what I normally do had no affect.

I was in a Corvette and My Shields didn't last very long. The 2nd time he and a wing man, got me.

Am I to assume one should use private to do CGs?

Just wanted to get some opinions.

Thanks

4 years. 4 years later and people are still asking why people shoot them in a game about spaceships shooting things.

4 years.

Four.

Years.

FOUR.

YEARS.

You know whats funny? Fast forward another 4 years. Its now 2021. Youre scanning through the salt forums because you hate yourself and you see the title " I just got killed for no reason"

Do you..

a) click on it
b) ignore it in the hopes these people will just go away
c) remember this post, REMEMBER THIS POST.

REMEMBER,

THIS.

POST.

REMEMBER ME!!!

REMEMBER MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.

You really don't understand pro pvp. Pro means playing for money, in official tournaments. This happens in AAA mmos. This does not happen in Elite. There is no pvp / wvw dedicated megaserver instancing. There is no effort to have actual balancing and leveling of gear. Legacy mods, no condi clears, no matchmaking based on win loss performance, etc. etc. I really don't care if you make your career playing tick on the back of corvettes, or shipping biowaste - the ED box allows for both. What I care about is that the game would be better if there were legit pvp and wvw commitment by FDEV consistent with AAA mmos.

My point is that blaming players for their behavior is useless. GOOD pvp and wvw models exist in other games and what exists in this game is a cheap shadow of what could be. All of these threads trying to blame players for their behavior are futile. These posters should be running polls on who would pay extra for PVE OPEN, or starting organized campaigns for it to FDEV. Instead we have whiner threads, PG bandaids with tens of thousands of players saying - hey FDEV, you really ought to spend a dime and put together OPEN PVE, but we'll suck it up and do this PG thing because that's all that is available.
Apparently I understand pvp better than you do.
Then why do you keep blaming players for their behavior?

Funny, you're the one that started all the incivility by calling pvpers bullies.

triggered much and easily are you? you call yourself a griefer, tell people that they are carebears and you take offense when someone says that shooting people willy nilly in a game without justification except for personal instant gratification are bullies? Dude .. get a life.

Why do they need to roleplay for it to be ok?

I didn't say it wasn't ok, I just think it would be more fun for them and me if they did role play.

Also, why not fight back? Why just give up and run and assume you don't have the ability to win? You might actually have fun testing your ship and skills against someone else.

Actually that's a very good point. If I'm going to get blown up anyway I may as well learn from it and have some fun. Thank you.

Where do I blame people for their behavior? People do what people do. I blame FDEV. FDEV. FDEV. I need a a hammer to beat this into your head.

FDEV built a bad box for balanced and complete PVP.

Don't feel bad Birdman - a lot of us have been around competitive gaming for a long time, and understand that fair fights constitute the core of the pvp experience. When it's balanced, money can be on the line. Devs in those games work hard to create matchmaking and instances for fighting, where skill and theorycrafting with similar resources is the bedrock of the experience.

There is pvp in ED, it's just not on the structural level of other games.

Within the box of ED vastly different capacities are possible in pvp instances. No reward structures, ranking, or official balancing occurs. This is NOT a structure for truly competitive pvp. This is a structure for ganking, mobbing, etc. FDEV clearly likes this unbalanced model for Open. I don't know if it's developer laziness, or some misguided cruelty they enjoy. No one believes this crap about the galaxy being dangerous. If that argument were valid, NPCs would be dangerous. They are not. My best guess is that the player base that enjoys imbalanced pvp are also excellent customers that buys skins and other kit, and that the devs are lazy. Tough to know.

But you go Birdman. Call people carebears. Feel good about yourself. There are those of us that know what legit balanced pvp is, and wish Elite offered it. There are also those that just want a PVE experience with the same likelihood of meeting other players that Open offers.

These whine threads will keep popping until OPEN PVE is offered, or a legit pvp structure is introduced.

I'm not dedicated PvP player, so I don't have any kind of thought-out vision of how it should look like in Elite, so I'm asking out of curiosity: doesn't what you wrote describe Arena (CQC) part of Elite?
I'm also asking becasue my impression is that whenever mentioned people react to it like if someone would bring a monkey with diarrhea to a Queen of England birthday party. Is there something wrong with Arena?

CQC is a very modest form of arena combat. It does not take advantage of the range of ships available, there is no world vs. world (organized squad or zerg battles), there is no translation of assets between the games, it's an acknowledgement that such a play style exists - but not a commitment to it. The "power ups" feature further removes it from the broader game as well.

It's like playing skyrim and only being able to use your fists while naked.

How about asking whether the other player wants to indulge in a fight whose only purpose is to prove that you have the bigger genitals, or, probably more accurately, more time and less of a life than your opponent?

Also "carebear"?? Really? That's pretty lame and unimaginative in terms of ad hominem insult.

1 I don't need to blow up your ship to prove what is self evident.
2 Read my sig.
3 That's not an ad hominem.

I have to say CMDR, I am impressed by your reasoning and your contribution here. I know little about PvP gaming, but that's the most sense on the topic I've seen anyone talking here. 07

Sounds to me like you're a little triggered about being called a carebear.

I don't think that has anything to do with the post you are responding to.
"Pro pvp" is a red herring.

To be fair, you were triggered when I called you a carebear weakling. You came back with "You don't know me... I have the vids.... You suck at combat..." Probably best to avoid the whole carebear namecalling completely and focus on the arguments at hand. Please accept my apology for calling you a carebear weakling.

I respect the heck out of you Bob, but I think I will have to disagree.

Here is my statement preceding my characterizing Birdman's responses:

YOU are the carebear weakling that doesn't want a fair fight and doesn't want to be recognized in a meaningful way for demonstrating your skills. You're no pro. That's evident from your manner. If you knew anything about legit pvp, you wouldn't be touting ED as an example of how to do it. 4 years of trash is still trash.

Fair fights in pvp are built on balanced game mechanics. Games that have these (or at least strive to have them) do include professional competitive gameplay tournaments for money. If your suggesting that me saying Birdman is not a pro has the connotation he's not successful at his brand of pvp, I apologize for the ambiguity. I'm sure he is very successful at it. Players in competitive pvp realm focus their concerns on the game mechanics and the devs, not other players.

My point is that Birdman's frame of reference is not about the mechanics of pvp in elite, it's about being permitted to continue to do it as it is designed irrespective of its balance. If this consitutes a red herring, then I freely admit it.

I see these threads as a symptom of a larger systems problem rather than an individual play style problem. I suppose you could infer that makes my comments about "stop blaming players and blame the devs" off topic. There does seem to be quite a bit of traction for players to whine about being ganked, and gankers to wallow in the salt. I don't think this is good for the game in the long run, and would like to see true structural solutions such as balanced competitive pvp/wvw and Open pve.

Eventually, I'll get tired of beating that drum I guess. Always appreciate your insights Bob.

:Edited to be a little more reasonable:

You're taking what I said out of context. You claimed that I'm just looking for easy kills and I was replying that I don't and I can prove that I don't. I simply pull everyone in search of a good battle and I enjoy the good close battles, even battles I lose, more than easy kills.

All I'm attempting to do here is shed some light on on the fact that not all griefers are seal clubbers looking for easy kills and we're not bullies.
Most of us are just playing the game as bad guys and we pull everyone in search for a good pvp battle.
I'm sorry if that hurts your feelings.

Like I said before, I guarantee that if you and others like you flew with me for a week, your view towards "griefers" would be radically changed.

I too apologize for calling you a carebear and I would hope that your view towards players like me might be changed.

Most of us are not bullies, but I admit there are some that are.
Most of us are just looking for some pvp because Fdev has not given any in-game tools to find a good PvP battle.

I do to the CG almost every night and all I find are the same 40 or so players that I've already fought a hundred times before and it gets really boring. Many players like myself are just looking for other players to battle with and calling us bullies for that is completely absurd.

Finding other players to battle with is already fairly difficult and it blows my mind, and triggers me when I hear that I other players want to restrict us and limit who we can fight with even more or suggest that we need to be role-playing for it to be ok. Its completely unreasonable and selfish to even suggest such a thing.

What does "pro pvp" have to do with Elite in the first place, or the assertions being made?
It's obviously not that kind of game for many of the reasons you outline.

You didn't make that connection and it has no relevance as far as I can tell.
"That" is the red herring.
