In all honestly, I first came across the forum back in 2006 pretty much at the beginning, I kept looking for news on a new Elite and joined up a year later.
Until ED was announced there was only a few of us posting on any kind of a regular basis. BrettC, Geraldine, Steve O B Have, Alien, Steve and myself (there are a few others but my memory is not as good nowadays.)
It was a fun time with us having almost exclusive access to Frontier staff which usually consisted of Mike Brookes fending of our attempts to wheedle any info out of him.
We all have a ID number which states how many people had registered before you I'm no 1008 (but a lot of them were probably spam accounts)
That all changed with a single post from David Walsh.
It was fun back then and still is today, the games FD have made for me are pretty damn good and the friends I've made here on the forum and IRL thanks to this little corner of the internet means a lot to me.

I've read a lot of stupid stuff & some sage stuff written by a lot of people & your ratio is better than most. My favourite was when you recently said "yet I'm not a white knight

First time I really started to forum was when the Unknown Artefacts first surfaced and I discovered the morse. Lots of stuff worth investigating back then... now not so much... but now I keep an eye open to see if anything warrants looking at and just weigh in on the latest hot topics

To argue & to read new information.
1. Because I love this game and want to be around others who do, too.
2. To learn more about said game.
3. To help others learn ED and hopefully to learn to better appreciate the game, too.
4. Although we are a diverse bunch, there are a lot of similarities amongst us that have nothing to do with ED. There are super silly people everywhere!
5. On the forum, there are posters who are kind and empathetic to others simply out of goodness of heart. Considering what the mass media and social media are today, I need to be constantly reminded that people at their best are indeed, "good." And they are legion.
