Modes Why do you want me in Open?

Perfect! In which manner would you prefer to be stomped?

Whichever provides the most ingame drama and the least outgame drama. Losing can also be fun and exciting too, though you wouldn't know it around here. Plus the gamble in a video game is a lot cheaper when you lose than bleeding out actual monies at stuff like poker and trafficking. :D

Just don't use your bucket; you've had that thing around here for years now and I'm afraid of the cooties it may hold within.

Once again a brief glance at the replies from certain "types" has me convinced more than ever I was right to only play in Solo, not sure I could scrub hard enough in the shower to get the "epeen" smell off me if I went into open.

You might want to check your pits too. I can smell them from Open.

PvP is not meaningful or valid gameplay if it’s one sided, I don’t care if you think it’s “sanctioned by FDev” or whatever, if you’re gameplay hinges on stealing stuff from other players that aren’t interested in or running a ship appropriate for Combative PvP then your gameplay, to be frank, sucks as far as I’m concerned.

Well she'd be a pretty incompetent pirate to target a dedicated combat ship instead of a juicy trader, now wouldn't she?

Seems like Marra's gameplay is exactly what it needs to be.

Social interaction, is all I'm missing. I play open and like the idea that we can occasionally run into each other. The encounter can be just an exchange of greetings while passing in Supercruise, or it can be actual interaction and even a bit of PvP (which I usually run from or lose).

I wouldn't enjoy a PvE mode, as I like the edge of having the possibility for PvP. But I hope that most will not blindly engage in it. And it's my experience that most encounters are benign events, just ships passing in the night.

:D S

So your proposal will break one of the core professions of the Elite franchise, because in your opinion, it sucks?

In my opinion, your proposal hasn't got a snowball's chance of getting anywhere near a developer :)

So, the core issue with moving Power Play to open is that the PvP crybabies want more fat, juicy, carebear targets to pillage, rather than having to fight other PvP people?

Several people have said piracy is one of the core gameplay mechanics of Elite, and that it's not fair to take that away. I agree. However, why can't we make things more realistic?

Let's say you're a merchant, happily flying your cargo hauler from point to point, buying and selling stuff, and perhaps carrying a load of propaganda for your favorite girl, Aisling Duval. Now, under what fantasy scenario would this giant defenseless ship full of valuable goods be flying across hundreds of light years, through lawless space, without an escort?

If you want carebears in open, you're going to have to let them hire guards and travel in a convoy.

It's that simple.

No, that's not the core issue in any shape or form. Unless you spotted something from Sandro that everyone else missed?

I would rather players just choose a game mode that suits them.

It's that simple.

You can do that now, they just have to be alive. I'd take NPC wingmen and hireable mercs though for the good of everyone's game in any mode, because that is a good idea quite apart from the silly playstyle-sniping of your first line. Leave that off next time and your post is actually worthy.
