Ships Why doesn't Frontier fix the Cutter advanced docking computer?

I recall no official comment, though to me personally it feels actually like a feature, given that the degradation is deliberate and gradual. I have to credit those responsible at Frontier—the COVAS glitch-effects have been presented very well. Insofar as it also eventually reaches silence, that also feels like an intentional design choice and definitely it follows the same theme as some other aspects of fighting Thargoids.

In this case, I can understand the design intention being for the COVAS to stop working and therefore that the solution for determining Rotational Correction is just to check the panel (or fly within the attacked starport and discover it that way). The only trouble arises from having to do it as a workaround outside of a rotating structure for an unrelated actual problem which obviously was not intended, especially when the port involved is just an outpost and very much not rotating at all.

I think I would have stopped just short of total silence, where the words are unintelligible directly but a few messages might still be identifiable from the occasional syllable, if one knows them well enough. For example, if changing the Rotational Correction makes the COVAS emit a S-sound at some point, that must be part of disabled.
When I first encountered this I found it cool and thought it to be a feature; I only asked because later I found posts complaining about this "bug". I very much think and hope it is intentional. I never stayed in an affected area long enough to have it completely silenced, I just noticed it when dropping in and out running EVAC missions.

I'm 100% sure this has been reported before, but when I checked the issue tracker I could only spot a couple of entries for Legacy, all the ones for Live had expired.

Have just created a fresh issue for Live, feel free to hop on and confirm so it appears on Fdev's radar.

What title did you use in the issue tracker? I saw 2 for Cutter docking computer and they were both expired.

I deleted my own ticket since it seems it's a known bug with thrusters on Odyssey, rather than a docking computer issue.

After a quick search I think the ticket reference for the thruster problem is:

The launch from a space station really needs FDev attention. You are always flying into walls when you are trapped in the cue, and when it's your turn you are forced into cue again because your ship couldn't get lined up with the mail slot to leave. Sometimes, you get pinned in the mail slot because the system doesn't recognize that you have not completed the auto-launch. My tip to buddies was just logout than back in to get kicked to the 10km range.

Hi All :)
(Abbreviated)
However, i really wish they fix the thrusters issues in 4.0

Yes, I agree (y)

I find (Piloting the Cutter) that I'm pretty satisfied with the Auto Dock, although it can be slow, or 'dithering about' docking at stations, especially landing on my Carrier. It's the Auto Launch that, quite frankly, is hopeless at the moment!
I usually disable the Auto launch when leaving a station as the novelty of bumping and rebounding off the Station walls, getting stuck in the superstructure and being fined for 'loitering' soon wears off.
The problem is this really, it's a 'feature' that should work as originally intended?... as in piloting your ship safely out of the station?
It's function at the moment is questionable, it certainly doesn't add to the games enjoyment, it's merely a frustration, and more seriously IMHO. it painfully shows the flaws and lack of polish that some aspects of the game now display.

Not only Cutter is affected.
Try flying a Dropship for example :D

I doubt it's intentional. It was present before Odyssey but the thruster issues from Odyssey that are yet to be fixed have made it much, much more frequent.

Agreed. It's surreal qol crap like this that makes me feel like FD have already checked out of ED support.

Looks like the docking computer works perfectly in asteroid bases with an imperial cutter. I've done 15 trips out of one and it never got stuck or crashing into walls. Not even a single time.

I'm pretty sure it was quite the opposite experience back in 3.8 and earlier, with asteroid bases being a nightmare. I wonder if fixing this is what made it so inconsistent for other starports.

IIRC asteroid bases had issues in 3.8* when coming to dock not when launching. - the Cutter had a really bad tendency to get stuck in the mailslot, usually cleared by extending the landing gear then retracting it back

*(actually i think it was in one of the earlier 3.x patches)
