Why I and many others will rarely play open

I'd compare it to throwing over a chess set when your opponent gets the upper hand. Sure, you can do that, but it's not a very cool thing to do.
Well, that's your opinion and you are entitled to that. I actually think it's kinda funny and I'm just as entitled to that opinion as you are to yours. Enjoy your game. (y)

We aren't forced to play in OPEN - we can select what we want to do in OPEN, in a private group or SOLO. I would certainly not go to an engineer system in OPEN, because it is very likely to be ganked there. Actually my only reason to play in OPEN once in a while is to see some actual people - but that is in OPEN as well not that easy and I might not even be happy to see them, if they start shooting at me - but at least there are people. I accept that I can get interdicted and eventually even be killed - and if I'm not comfortable with that, I choose another mode. Sometimes I just want to see, if I can escape or learn something from not getting away immediately - like being mass locked before the FSD is ready to engage. I cannot learn this kind of stuff, without to actually be in a situation, which is dangerous and where I'm likely to get killed - so either I avoid playing in OPEN or I see a successful interdiction as an opportunity to learn something from it.

You shouldn't display your ignorance like this. Really. But then you probably don't care.

I didn't say I 'tried to fight'. You did. Then you claim I clogged. Where's your proof of this? Actually I just hit escape, waited for a timer and exited. Oh, and I can handle a few hundred 'losses', but for what? To pump up someone's flaccid ego? Really? Wow.

Actually I will claim ignorance. I didn't know menu logging was allowed and closing app/pulling your ethernet cable wasn't. I never went that far into researching it. Probably because imo they are the same thing and I've never looked up how to "properly log" to avoid a suspension.

You wouldn't have done it anyway if you had the upper hand, so spare me the ego lecture.

I think most of us feel that PVP is fine, if only something could be done to reduce the ROFLPUBSTOMPING!1one!
This topic is filled with advice on what to do to reduce it. The real issue is that the people who claim they want something to be done really want someone else to do it. Any cmdr can read the advice and stop being gank-fodder right now, today. A part of the community will refuse it though and argue it is Everybody Else's Responsibilty.

To them I can only say: Sorry princess, that aint how anything works.

Another stupid and ignorant comment. You're getting good at this.

TBH I was getting bored. I still had two rings of shields after dozens of strafing runs by them, and all of my boosters. I just wanted to dock and finish my missions.

Yeah combat is so boring compared to mission running, especially when you're winning and still had all your SCBs (or as you call them, boosters). I can't think of a better time to exit the game.

PvP IS boring. To me. A bit like this so-called conversation. But YMMV. Enjoy your game. (y)

Then don't play in a mode where the only additional feature is something that bores you.

You're trying really hard to get me to believe you. Sorry, I don't.

I think you bit off more than you could chew when you decided to stay and fight instead of running away, which you could have done easily in a Vette with great shields unless they had FSD disrupting missles or grom bombs. You were losing at some point when their friend jumped in, didn't want to fail the mission, and menu logged.

But apparently menu logging is just fine in that scenario, so continue to bore yourself in Open as much as you like.

Well big ship vs more agile opponent fight is kind of boring. Either opponent has some can opener forcing you retreat, or if they don't then multiple attack runs vs. you rarely score hits and it goes on and on.

It's still faster to run than menu log and load back in.

PvP in general is pointless in ED. You only die when you are in a gentlemen's duel, or when you are either an idiot or drunk.

It's why people who are neither in a gentlemen's duel or drunk are so upset.

Depends on situation. Meaning do you really need to reach particular destination? If you low wake you are in for serial interdiction. If you high wake, it is at least jump back, and fly in supercruise, and if you did not do mode change anyways you may get interdicted again. Is menu logging nice thing to do for other side, well maybe not. But neither is interdicting you and trying to blow your ship to pieces. Both are allowed anyways.

Griefers. For the most part.

Whenever I play open, and happen to cross ways with another player, I get interdicted and killed by a full engineered guy. "I mean, ok, you obviously want to test out your super OP ship and pubstomp little-me, I get it. I hope you were able to pump up that little ego of yours. Now I relogg into solo mode, goodbye." :D

Yee, it's dumb, really.

No really, I am glad that there is solo-mode. I just wanna chill and have fun.
Tho sometimes I get the urge to step into open-play with the hope to find some cool guys to play with. Even though it sometimes tends to end like described above.

Not sure, why I write this, maybe I don't want solo-mode ever to be deleted and I hope it never will be.
I'm a veteran Eve Online player and I've heard these kinds of arguments over and over for the past 12 years. Everybody who PVP's thinks people who don't like that are carebears. Everybody in low thinks everybody in high are carebears, everybody in null thinks everybody in low are lowbears, everybody in low thinks everybody in null are null bears. Everybody calling everybody else out for their preferred play styles. What nobody seems to remember is that none of it matters. YOU are the ONLY PERSON who gets to dictate your play style. You play how you want and in whatever way you find enjoyable. Nobody gets to tell anybody else how to play. You didn't buy their game and you don't pay their sub (if there is one) so quit trying to make yourself feel better about your playstyle by putting someone else's down and just enjoy your game.

Have we reached the 'only play in Open until theres a chance of meeting another player then switch to Solo' point of the debate yet? Or are we still stuck on people who say they only fly in Open in a combat ship telling others who want to play in Open all the time to only fly in Open in a combat ship?

Or is there something new this time?
