Why I love Inara

Chiming in with my appreciation for Inara too. I use it every day. I can keep up with my friends and see what they've been up to or accomplished, where they are docked, what ships they just bought or sold, what ranks they've reached and so on.

The engineering was mentioned earlier, and it's a great resource to check my planned mods and see how many of the requisite materials are on board already.

I love how it always knows where I am, so I can alt-tab to easily find the closest of whatever I am looking for, especially mat traders!

Three of us are Deadly combat rank and in a race for Elite. I am way behind in this race, but Inara shows I am almost catching up haha.

I like the fleet page, although I wish I could export any build straight to Coriolis. I like assigning role descriptions on that page and it's all neat and organized.

The Inara medals give me goals to chase. I have nearly qualified for the Inara Captain's medal (5000 passengers), but as I do sightseeing rather than bulk transport it's slow going. But I need goals in Elite and this is one more.

Great work and an essential companion.

Thanks for pointing this out! I use EDMC so I have not linked directly to Inara. Well, I must connect to Inara see my medal collection:

I know you just misspoke, it's bonds not bounties for the Soldier medal. You couldn't be combat Elite without getting 5,000 bounties I reckon.

I, however, am several thousand short of that medal myself :)
You are correct. I have almost 20,000 bounties. Bonds come from Conflict Zones? I don't do those missions very often.

Your 4,256 redeemed bonds suggest otherwise :D

But then again I saw your post in the snap shot thread, and I suppose it's all relative
True. The only time I engage in CZ activities is to help out the BGS nerds in my squad. But since I'm so close to that badge, I might have to take it up a notch.

  1. Storage: Best place to sort ships and modules. I would use Inara if this were the only function
  2. Engineers: With one click, I see what materials are needed for the next module upgrade
  3. Locating stations: Galaxy->Stations and Systems->Nearest. EDDB has something similar, but Inara lets me easily find the nearest Interstellar Factors
  4. Squadron activities: Inara is a nice place to coordinate squad missions and communications. Some members of my squad use this much more than I.
Mysteries of Inara:
Gallery: I uploaded many pictures to the Gallery and many have randomly disappeared. Wat?
Likes: we used to be able to upvote items in the gallery but this stopped working about a year ago. It was a nice feature that encouraged community sharing, but sadly I don't bother anymore.

This is working now! Thanks *Artie!
*Little asterisk next to "shiny" because something has changed. Yay!

You be you.

I on the other hand use both Inara and EDDB. I'm willing to work hard, but I'd rather work smart. I want to work least of all when I'm playing a game. In their own rights, they are both excellent tools. I'll admit that I'm on Inara much more often though.
Agreed. I use EDDB to locate stations with specific modules. And it shows me where is the nearest control system of a given powerplay faction. Inara might be able to accomplish these tasks, but I never took the time to figure it out since we have EDDB.

If you don't have an Inara account why are you even bothering to play ED? If nothing else it makes engineering info so simple as well as several hundred groups who would love to fly with you. 20,000 players signed up for Mobius PVE on the PC. I'm guessing 95 percent of them no longer play the game but you cannot join as no account is ever deleted. Inara is still very alive and well. You want friends to fly with check out Inara. They cover all play styles including trading with escorts if trading is your thing.

Thank you for your praise, everybody! :)

It was always working, there was just a visual issue the "shiny" count wasn't promoting "down" to the main gallery listing on click (and properly displayed on the new image opening), until the page was reloaded. But the votes were always counted in. So much praise forced me to fix it finally - the positive motivation apparently works! ;)
