Horizons Why is FD recommending using 32bit over 64bit in the launcher?

Isn't it perfectly clear to everyone that there are now two games effectively - Elite Dangerous 1.5 & Horizons.

Horizons is a 64 bit program, Elite Dangerous is available in either 32 bit or 64 bit.

As this is an Horizons sub forum I'm not sure why anybody would be even mentioning 32 bit!

because the 32bit one is the only one that works for me
64bit worked fine in beta
the 64bit options do not work now on release only 32bit .

I'm running 64bit win10
with a geforce GTX 960 [DX 12.0 card]

You should contact support then. Are you playing on steam or frontier launcher and what is your launcher version?

I only have Horizons installed, I wiped the 32 bit directory. There is only 1 (one) directory in my Products folderr. Both Horizons and ED 64 bit (1.5) are launchable. Same executable and data files (same version number V 2015.12.14.93051), FD server moderates what you can access when run.

Maybe it is as mentioned, a stability issue.

My launcher is now recommending I install the 64bit game. The opposite of yesterday. Talk about a fickle launcher... :)

Yeah, I was just gonna say that. Talk about a "typo" ... the exact opposite! Whoops!"

Incidentally, for those on low spec' machines I would ABSOLUTELY NOT recommend the 64-bit version. So I've been happily running ED on my work laptop (occasionally do a little fuel ratting in my lunch breaks). It's way under spec' but is still playable. Anyway, figured I'd install the 64-bit client as "recommended". When I hit Play it then took just over 45 MINUTES before it started VERY slowly rendering the main menu. Saw no point whatsoever in actually entering the game and uninstalled the 64 bit client ASAP.

having got the launcher to validate the client files for the offending 64bit ones they now work!

After validating the files using the launcher, my 32-bit copy got replaced w/ a 64-bit copy of Horizons (which I don't own)

I've tried both 32 n 64bt , both play the same. don't understand why I have all 3 options

all 3 launch.

Simple,
Horizons is 64 bit only,
Dangerous is 32 and 64 bit.

I you have Horizons you have everything that is in dangerous + the planetary landings
If you Do not have Horizons, then you have the choice of the 32 bit or 64 bit client.

Now if FD would give us the uninstall option for the clients we do not use that would be great, as I tried to uninstall the 32 bit clients and it uninstalled all of them :(

Anyone compared the performance (or any other factors like memory usage etc) between 1.5 32bit vs 1.5 64bit ?

Also strange that in the launcher FD recommends the 32bit but in their twitter
https://twitter.com/Frontier_Help you can see they recommend the 64bit

"
If you are not sure about the 32bit or 64bit versions of Elite Dangerous and can see both, we recommend that you play the 64bit version.

I had a go at installing the 64 bit version of ED on my (very low spec) laptop at work. I play ED in my lunchbreak occasionally and with all the graphics set to Low it's tolerable. However, with the 64 bit version, it took just over 45 MINUTES from clicking the Play button to the point where the Main Menu began to appear (VERY slowly). I didn't even bother going into the game, I think I'd still be waiting for the first frame to render now!

Updated the 32 bit version and that ran perfectly.

Draw you own conclusions.
