Why is Frontierstore Odyssey full price yet Steam is 40% off?

Because unlike Frontier, Steam is in it for the money.
lol say what? Valve make HUGE amounts of money off the backs of other peoples games thanks to still having a monopoly in terms of mind share of many pc gamers.
IF Valve were not primarily in it for the money (and even if they are it is not necessarily a bad thing) they would still actually create titles like they used to..... HL:A was a breath of fresh air but seemingly an outlier, it would appear their other 2 unique IP titles they promised are canned.
I would say it isnt anything nefarious on FDs part.. More likely that they make so few sales off the Frontier store version they simply did not think about it, or it was not worth the time changing it on their store. I have no idea of exact percentages but i would expect the vast majority of sales to be from steam or Epic (steam because so many PC gamers only buy games on steam) and Epic store because millions of copies of the base game were given away for free so if you have that version it makes sense to expand on that,

Yes. As has been said on this very thread. And several others :)
Maybe I'm being blind. But all I saw is that you can buy Odyssey on Steam and have it in your Frontier account if you have your Steam and Frontier accounts linked together. I'm thinking of activating a Steam key on a Frontier account without having a Steam account linked to it.

If anybody can confirm that the latter works it would be amazing.

It's more about balance than anything. When I came back to the game after a break these forums were just filled with negativity, vitriol, hyperbole, hate, and dev bullying. I figure there are plenty of people already doing that so I'll counter that by posting things that are positive about the game more often than not. I have issues with it and I do air them but I prefer to highlight good rather than bad when I can.
The game (or any game in fact) is definitely much more enjoyanble when you focus on what's there rather than on what's missing :)

The grindloops? I dont think Satisfactory has that many ingredients like ED does and that is a factory game with heavy logistics in 3D. Plus you get proper tools to find the basic resources. ED you get a fracking load of randomly named bogus ingredients, then go of to roll the dice for them to drop and after a couple attempts and several bugs you give up frustrated. That is ED in a nutshell. Would have been better if they just stuck to space sim.

Thats cool and all, but you are literally talking about $5. Not that its my business, but if a fiver is such a huge deal to you that you spend a year tossing and turning about whether to spend it or not on a game you've spend hundreds of hours on maybe there are external issues more important than the quality of EDO. No offense, but you;ve literally spend more than a year weighing up the pros and cons of a purchase the average person spends on a burger on a friday night when they aint that hungry.
I'd guess his judgement is based more about the product itself rather than the price. I personally wouldn't get EDO even for free because, well, I simply don't play ED anymore. On the other hand, when I found ED I didn't hesitate to buy it (and Horizons) instead of waiting for a discount.
^ This. It's voting with my dollar. But it's more than that. Odyssey is not your typical DLC. It is a replacement of Horizons. So it isn't just adding new content, it's completely changing existing content and features - everything from the UI to lighting to performance to planet rendering tech. This is very different than me buying access to an island off of Tamriel, or unlocking jump gates in X4. There's a strong likelihood that I will prefer my current Horizons way of doing things (lighting, performance, UI, graphic fidelity, etc) based on my "weighing up the pros and cons", and if this is the case, that means paying money for something that I try out and then rarely use, as I'll just keep firing up Horizons instead, leaving Odyssey sitting unused on my hard drive (or maybe even uninstalled).

Personally I find it fascinating that the base game is much cheaper than the "DLC". I've bought Horizons three times over the years, twice when it was more than Odyssey is currently. We all know I have plenty of issues with Horizons, but it's worth much more to me than Odyssey is at the moment. 🤷‍♂️

ps - this is a forum, "tossing and turning" is what we do here LOL. If you want to see real tossing and turning, go visit the Star Citizen thread and turn that into hamburgers ;)

And for the vast majority of games I do, as they don't expect me to part with money until they are done.

ED, however, encouraged me to part with money when nothing existed other than a shopping list of to be done items which, it has turned out, will take a decade and counting.

Who cares? Buy the cheaper one...

I swear some of the questions that get asked are unnecessary.
I know .... and it is utterly terrible that we are FORCED to read and respond to even the posts we dont care about, even when the title of the post makes it blindly obvious what the topic is about :p
I think the original post is a valid observation..... I dont think it is a big deal either way but it is a fair question imo. Logically you would think FD would want to sell their DRM free version which doesnt involve Valve taking their 30% cut or Epic their..... is it 12% cut ?(i cant remember epics cut for sure)

I always buy from the dev store for any game, they deserve the full amount, funnily enough I buy all my clothes from goodwill stores, and I guess that tells you everything about me you need to know!
Not necessarily true. I really need to know why you braid your hair that way...

Sure. Maybe I should have coffee BEFORE I start replying to threads...

ooooo spidey senses tingling..... this sounds like this could be the most interesting drama in this thread!...... Who, what, where and when? dont leave us hanging ;)
That dude is a pathological liar. How he's allowed to spread his hatred and vitriol without consequence is beyond me, but hopefully smart people can see through his lies. Just read the libelous nonsense he posts about Obsidian Ant, Drew Wager, and everyone else who gets more attention than he does. I consider you one of the smart people, so PM me if you want to know the truth rather than this man's lies and gossip.

But hey, he is father the year, husband of the month, and employee of the week, so I guess he can't be all bad.

Sadly you would be wrong on that ;)

but seems a bit too spicey for me, i probably should not have asked I shall back out carefully of this one. .....
I've reported all of us for moderation LOL, though not with the intent to get you in trouble. This type of "spicey" (inciting people to cyberbully) has no place on a civilized forum. Of course I'm guilty for responding in kind, so I await my own well-earned flogging.
