They don't need an excuse - it's always been a nice-to-have, not part of the intended core gameplay.
That is inaccurate. Check the Kickstarter FAQ.

Frontier is a very lazy team. I know how things work, I worked with different projects over the years and I know for a fact that they are lazy.

Do you mean this bit ?, I made the relevant words big for clarity.
You can put words in large bold text all you like, it doesn't change the fact that FD has no legitimate excuse not to produce space legs when Elite has brought in upwards of $100 million USD of revenue for the company and people are releasing cheap indie games on Steam that provide more gameplay content than space legs would provide.
What Elite features are "very good"? Other than the SRV and planetary landings we got in 2.0 everything else during Horizons has been a buggy, minimum viable product that took twice as long to deliver as it should have. Beyond has been an absolute mess. Sorry, I haven't been seeing anything other than "mediocre" from Elite and that's being generous for a game that has cost me $105 USD so far plus cosmetics purchases.
The past 3.5 years of FD making excuses for why the game is in such a poor state is plenty of evidence.
That's nonsense. Sorry, Elite is nowhere near "very good" unless you have abysmally low standards for the games that you play.
I literally just told you why. Did you miss the part where we got more grind instead of actual gameplay improvements with Beyond? You really do need to actually read my posts here, not just ignore them and make laughable claims that Elite is "very good" as if simply making that ridiculous claim somehow makes it true.
This is where I can't seriously continue the "discussion" with you.
If you're going to try to pretend there's "no grind" or that you "don't need to grind" or any similar variation of that ludicrous claim then we aren't even discussing the same game here.
Sorry there is a minimum degree of honesty and objectivity that you're going to need if you want to have a meaningful discussion about the state of Elite.
C&P is exactly about griefing. What do you think was the point of the rework? Because NPCs were complaining?
Yes, but you also don't think there's "any need to grind" in Elite. As if FD just handed out my Elite rankings, Corvette, Cutter and billions of credits just for logging in.
You can "disagree" all you want but that's not a coherent argument.
Suppose I tried to claim "NMS was a great game when it launched". No matter what you might try to discuss about the state of that game when it launched and all the problems it had at the time, I'll just say "I disagree". That's not a coherent argument either because it's not based on any sort of objectivity or rational discussion, it's just stating a baseless claim over and over.
And just say it's rubbish is not much of an argument either mate. You can't have one rule for you and another for others.
My only hope at this point is to see Elite get a modest amount of development effort instead of the almost complete lack of investment we've been seeing from them for the past 2.5 years since Horizons launched. I'm not expecting anything "good" from Elite but I would still like to see a minimum viable product version of space legs. Not because I want yet another minimum viable product feature but simply because FD is going to either give us nothing or a rudimentary version of space legs and I'd rather get something from them instead of nothing.
It hasn't been shelved, but it is a massive resource hog, so it won't be in with this update. We may see it later with better GPU's, but I suspect it will be PC only.
The problem is that most of the expansions we've gotten since 2.0 have been rubbish either due to missing features, bugs or some sort of gameplay limitation or flaw. Even the features I personally enjoy, like SLFs, have been delivered with severe gameplay flaws where we need to grind an NPC pilot up from harmless and then lose them instantly on ship destruction. It's like FD can't even give us an enjoyable feature without tying it to some sort of grind that ruins what could have otherwise been a good gameplay experience.

Features have not been missing. And just because they are not feature complete does not make them rubbish. This is all just your subjective opinion.
I can think of far worse implementations for just about every feature in ED.
You obviously missed the quotes completely, or just ignored them never mind though the truth can be inconvenient.
Which indie games do you mean I'm always on the lookout for quality space games and most of them are absolute trash. In fact I'd say ED has no competition at all.
Multicrew features that FD clearly described a few months before the feature launched were completely missing. Even the SRV can't be used during multicrew. That is not an "opinion" it is an objectively verificable fact that the gameplay FD described for multicrew was not delivered. That is not a "subjective opinion", it is an entirely valid critcism of the gameplay.
Sorry, but no they did not describe multicrew features a few months before it dropped that didn't arrive. They did that a year and a half before that. What was described a month before is exactly what we got.
And I knew it would be pants from the moment they described it and I was not disappointed.
It was not a year and a half, that's nonsense. You have such a poor recall of the development process that you don't even remember what FD was telling us at the time, do you?
I think you need to go and re watch it. You are wrong. They originally described multicrew when horizons was unveiled a year and a half before multicrew dropped.
Then what was described a month or so before it actually dropped is what we got. I remember the forum posts of woe when people realised there would be no engineering role.
It is your memory wh9ch is wrong. Or it's cognitive dissonance in a desperate attempt to justify what your are saying.
You are wrong.
FD described what they were originally working on and gave the impression that it was being developed right up until a few months before multicrew launched. We had no indication that those features weren't going to actually happen until shortly before multicrew launched and we learned that all of those non-combat features had been suddenly cut. When they were asked about it Sandro straight-up admitted that they "didn't have enough time and resources", which means they knew for quite some time that the plans they originally made were not going to suddenly materialize out of nowhere. They just waited until the last minute to actually admit it to us, because they were still trying to sell Horizons expansions at $45 each at the time.
Yes. Thanks for clarifying what I said. Glad you accept that your were wrong in your statement.
Sorry but horizons was not £35 at that time. This is nothing but a lie. It had been on offer numerous times before then.
You really need to try harder with your untruths. They are not very good.
And its about the only one I can think where it wasn't what they originally said it would be like. But as they said, they ran into some unexpected difficulties.
Is that the only one you can think of, the pretty much universally derided multicrew. At least they intend to improve it in Q4.
