Why So Few Cosmetics?

They did, although if you're not on X, you're not a real person to them.

Anyway, whatever, I wanted a chrome paint for my FdL so I guess I'll just put that money towards a bottle of wine instead. 🤷‍♂️
I think the case was like this:

They just wanted to boost sales of unpopular paint jobs by removing popular ones from the shop. I can't find any other logical reason. And if that's the case, it's disgusting. Instead of putting out more options so that everyone can find something to their liking and be more likely to spend their money, they are instead cutting the range. It's really stupid. Do they really think that if I can't buy something I like because it's not available in the shop, I'm going to buy something I don't like? It's ridiculous! No, I won't!

Additionally, why are the space suit cosmetics so lacking? Starfield, for all its flaws, does at least do a decent job with different faction space suits. I don't expect clones obviously, but of the suits cosmetics we do have, the color variety is horrendous, and theyre painted so plainly.

I want to give you my money FDEV. Cmon

I agree, the colours are eye popping. I'd like to buy some of the sets, but I don't do it just because of the repulsive colour scheme.

I'll repeat the same thing I've said about this every time it comes up. Some days I have money burning a hole in my pocket, and my gambling and gaming addictions take over. If there isn't a paint in the store I like right when that happens, I buy currency in gacha games and try to get characters for mobile games or soccer players in those games. Whatever catches my interest until "I shouldn't spend any more on games this pay period" takes over, that's what wins.

Dunno, I play in the Australian Private Group, I rarely see another player. Can't imagine it's much of a different experience though. It's not like players have access to stealth tech.

Even out of combat though you can see cosmetics just fine. There's quite a few videos of Ed's time as CM where he did regular meet ups and was surrounded by any number of ships with any number of cosmetics. Distinct in my mind on one occasion was an FDL with the ship name "Derek Smart was Right" blowing chaff in the background. Even in the background I could read the name - clearly not a waste of time for that individual. ;)
... hold on .... there's an Australian Private Group ??????

That's the thing, I very rarely buy Arx unless I'm actually at the point of making a purchase and I don't have enough. If I can't see the thing I want to buy, I don't get as far as buying the Arx. Then all of a sudden there's a world of possibilities for where that money can go towards, wine, more lego to keep the kids happy, extra cheesy garlic bread in the next takeaway.

Once the idea of cheesy garlic bread gets in my head, it's going to have to be a really nice paint job to get that out. FDev need to understand what they're competing with here.

Yeah, in the original shop reorg I was expecting the explicitly seasonal stuff to remain seasonal (snowflakes, pumpkins etc), but everything else to be for sale year round. Grrr.

I'm still faintly hoping for Tactical Ice for the Type 8 and Cobra V so I can keep my fleet conventions consistent, but the Type 8's been out quite a while now... :(

Right now, I just want them to add the Kaine powerplay decal to the store. I can't imagine it being a particularly labour intensive task, so it's puzzling that it isn't already there. I'd even be prepared to shell out ARX for it if they don't want to retro-actively add it into the free pack that I already own.

Guys, maybe I'm going crazy already. Can someone explain to me what's going on?

Check this out. "Pulse" paint job. The white and orange version is on sale at 25% off, but the red version and purple are not. And blue and green are not on sale at all! They used to be though)))

It's the same paint job, just in different colours, but some of the colours aren't available, some are on sale at a discount, some not. Can you explain this in any sane way?)

What would be cool, would be more sunglasses and hats for our CMDRs, and for those things to show up in our pictures in all picture situations. I had a fun baseball hat in EVE, but EVE also let you pose your pilot, which was a lot of fun.

No.

I am not sure anyone can.

They might have stats on which paint jobs sell the best. As you say, they can control which ones sell based on availability.

My theory is this:
Frontier has a good design team along with one(1) crumby designer. Someone they can't fire because they are some VP's kid. And they gotta make them look good. The sales of the crumbty paint jobs get artificially boosted by manipulating what is available the store. Voila, the VP's kid is a success.

I'd pay top Arx for new redesigned cockpits, first purchase would be for Anaconda cockpit (pls fox those upper cables) and for the DBX so I don't have to look at that rusty dashboard.
My vote is for the reverse; less shiny iPod looking cockpits, moar details. I can't take the Corsair seriously as a pirate ship with that cockpit.
