Why there shouldn't be a general buff to Open

This has been suggested many times. Extra profits, buffs to "inf", BGS or PP limitations, etc.

If I was determined to play in Open but didn't want the "risk" of meeting other players, the solution would be simple: play in Open, but every time a hollow square appears on radar, block that player and relog.

That would be tedious and immersion-breaking and I have no incentive to do it, because it's easier to use Solo or PG.

If there was any buff available in Open, it would be an incentive to start doing that.

If there was such an incentive, I don't think I could be bothered with all that relogging, but I'm sure that it would become widespread. The "new meta", if you like. The buff would be pointless and the effects on instancing would probably be horrible.

Therefore, there shouldn't be a buff to Open because it would mangle instancing.

I find the same - I'm no murder hobo, but I have been known to stalk others around supercruise like a dirty old man in a raincoat, with no intention of interdicting them, because it is interesting to see how long before panic ensues!

If there is no pooping of breeches, I will say hi, and carry on about my loitering near the park.

Ah, so then you agree that advising people to go rampant with blocking to deal with even the slightest hint of a possible attack is actually bad advice, as it will 'mangle instancing'.

We are dealing, for example, with regional differences, with some providers blocking P2P connections as generally "suspicious", but also with a widespread scepticism about port forwarding, which also affects the likelihood of instances.
Not to mention that some people may do this intentionally in a mode with unfavorable conditions in order to remove these and also block servers built to evade forwarding issues.

Whilst I would like to see an additional open only PvP dlc of some form (most likely some sort of hyper PP), bonuses to any mode are silly.

People that currently do not play open are unlikely to start playing in open just because of a minor influence/rep/credit buff. So the hopes that it would drive more victims into open is likely a vain one.

I also think the belief that you could blockade a BGS or even PP destination "if only everyone was in open" is more than a bit absurd. With the multiple platforms, the less than reliable instancing this game has, and the block function, I doubt you could ever halt enough tonnage in deliveries to an opposing faction to cover what you could have delivered for your own faction in the same amount of time.

Blockades worked in Powerplay enough to destabilise powers when many factors line up (i.e. powers are in the same mode and don't block each other). The most recent example that comes to mind is the Kumo power group blockading Polevnic. Ask Bashy for an assessment.

In the end its not about absolutes, its about slowing and disrupting. Blockades with current rules only work in PP for inbound powers, and Open only (whole or part) would only work as a concept if things like fort direction, uncapped UM were brought in that made all flows of players consistent.

I get Anti-Eternia* vibes from this one.

*the figurines are awesome, and I think it's rather Anti-Hotel California, but you get my meaning...

I've got over 6,000 hours playing ED since its launch on the PS4. Only about a thousand of them are in OPEN, I prefer PRIVATE. But during those thousand I've never ever though I wanted too, ban anyone. With the advent of Odyssey just around the corner, I can see there's gonna be even more of an issue with grieving then there is in ED. Gonna be far easier to shoot one in the face while walking around then it is trying to destroy a ship while in flight.

100% support the OP. Block is not a good mechanic for PVE/PVP partitioning.

Until legit partitioning occurs (as in nearly ever other MMO), it is what will be used.

Odyssey will be entertaining to say the least with p2p, rubber banding, and block layered on top ;D
