Will Elite Dangerous be Ported to Mac M2?

If ED was developed by Hello Games, perhaps.

Frontier's recent history is to restrict development to Windows PC, so no chance.

Based on historical trends, I believe it's more likely that the next big step will be not expanding to other systems, but reducing what's on PC.
Something like restricting the game to the left half of the keyboard and left half of the mouse. 🤔

Hello Games released No Man's Sky for macOS a few days before the announcement of Apple Vision, this shocked me because I bought Elite Dangerous on Steam because it was playable with Macs too... but it was also the first canceled project, even stopped before Horizon... just long enough to try playing a while on my Mac 😒

So yeah...imagine 😢

In general, I would highly doubt that Apple will ever be able to establish the Mac as a gaming platform at this point. I doubted Microsoft entering the console market, and that was with years of the PC being established as a serious gaming platform. They did it of course, through sheer brute financial force, but Apple has none of that (apart from financial force, that is). Maybe if they released an M2 based console (just don't call it Pippin 2) that was 100% compatible with current Mac machines. They have the money but I just don't think that the economics of the console market pair with Apple's established pricing strategy, and they'd be going up against Sony, Microsoft & Nintendo - unless they established an alliance with one of them, (though least likely to be Microsoft on the face of it, but stranger things have happened).

I don’t have Apple Silicon in a computer, so can offer no personal experience. This is an interesting video about the porting kit that isn’t afraid to show warts when then exist.

Oops, nin’jd, but at least it’s a different video.

I think it works with MacIntel too, MacOS 14 run from some intel models from 2018 (I don't know if there's some limitations for these). It seem the Apple game toolkit use the WINE code anyway, like crossover and other apps or like steamOS for the SteamDeck do.

Maybe there's... A new hope 😆
