Will exploration change with the new fleet carriers?

The ability to put ad-hoc ship repair facilities deep in the black will change Exploration (for those with access to those Carriers, anyway).

I suspect that instead of one huge expedition with hundreds of CMDRs travelling to one destination, FLEET CARRIERS will encourage hundreds of expeditions in mini groups of CMDRs.

If they all work together, it would be possible to map so much more of the galaxy. Groups of FLEET CARRIERS arranging to plot up 500ly from each other and document all surrounding systems, rather than the normal discoveries made by plotting a course, for example to Colonia, and documenting everything on that straight line journey.

Hope this makes sense, it’s morning and I’ve only had one coffee and 2 cigarettes. Hardly awake at all.

I'm going in with the assumption that it's gonna take me weeks to get the materials together for one 500ly jump. So in that case, probably not.

Keeping my expectations low so I'm not caught up in the salt tsunami once this thing drops. If I'm wrong, that's a bonus.

I was stuck near the outer rim of the galaxy (not too far, i just went upward from the bubble area) having overcharged my drive to make a few jumps of 120 LY, and although i could see the odd star system up above i could travel no further, i expect a carrier would help me greatly in getting to those unreachable systems. One question that has crossed my mind is, will finding new systems be made even more difficult for newer players in small ships? It's quite hard to find a new system anywhere near the bubble currently, and i expect small teams of dedicated explorers with a carrier may end up mapping a lot more, so i'm not sure whether that's a good or bad thing, it will depend on the particulars, how often can the carriers jump, how much fuel they will need etc.

There is potential for players to build their own bubbles of activity if the ability to repair power plants and broken windshields comes with a carrier, and if it is able to be opened up to a large number of players (or even all players) without being trolled too badly.

I hope the thing is only able to be deployed to a system the player has previously visited and that they won't be used as mass transit for players but who knows?

If I don't have much of a use for it myself I might take the time to park mine (I only have one account) somewhere and open it up to be used as a stop off for anyone that wants to rearm/repair their ship out in the black.

You can't fly carriers what is new in comparison to mega ships. Okay you own by yourself wow what an improvement. Tiny improvement.
It's cosmetic in my opinion.

But there is the support ships. There will be something they are good for. And maybe, just maybe, we'll be able to fly them.

It all depends on whether the Exploration nodule includes Universal Cartographics. If it does, exploration changes to become a risk-free stroll in the park. If it doesn't, I have no idea what it's for.

Going rampant with ideas now.

What if we can store exploration data at the exploration module. And give it some time and additonal shaking, the exploration module will crunch through the data and make it even more valuable and produce a data-disk that can be sold at the bubble for tremendous profit, or stolen by pirates...

What if we can store addtional jumponium at the exploration module? What if we can send the exploration module exploring by it's own, like an official exploration bot? What if Frontier suddenly would start to implement creative ideas?

I know. No, no, no. It won't go.

I dream of a science module that you can deliver samples of biologicals and anomalies to, that can be researched to provide new blueprints or recipes.

But yeah, it'll be a UC.
