Will PS4 get the Cobra Mk IV?

Well, with ‘season pass’ like myself holders having to pay for the upcoming DLC (don’t mind honestly but it’s part of the point) and SD being available to Elite Ranks and Founders etc, maybe it’s time to open up the MKIV Cobra for sale to anyone with access to SD. Seems a shame to waste a ship, and people just getting into the game six years on have no way to access it (now people joining who may not have had the option six years ago). It’s not the best ship yeah, but for completionists I’m sure the MKIV being missing from their barn of boats drives them a bit nuts :p

You basically get the people who have it saying "waaaaah no way, you can't have my toy". It goes the same way every time, this is probably why we never got it on the PS4 but, what FDev should have done was just give us it as the pre-order bonus way back when as it would have been able to be argued as "well the other two platforms got it for pre-ordering Horizons". The PS4 is the same. That ship has sailed unfortunately and we never did get any further updates from Lloyd. The FAQ was updated moons ago about it.

Maybe the solution is for FDev to release an improved Cobra Mk V ‘Exclusive’ and ‘Forever’ for only those commanders who don't have access to a Cobra Mk IV. Then, at least particularly for those PS4 CMDRs who pre-ordered, we can feel like we have been given equal treatment instead of being discriminated against – which when it comes to people and not platforms is against the law!

Only problem with that is the cobra ships only went mk2 to mk4 in elite lore, so unless it's the cobra mk2 then I doubt we have a chance to get an exclusive ship anytime soon

Good point but if Lakon can bring out a new Chieftan and its variants and Faulcon DeLacy the New Krait MK II (the original Krait in ED lore was nothing like the new versions) then surely in 3305 we can have a new improved Cobra MK V?

to be honest I can't wait for that moment when Elite Dangerous 2 comes out and the cobra mk4 is in it from day 1, that would make cobra mk4 club wet there pants lol

So the other Cobra MK4 thread has thrown up some interesting info for us.

First was FDev support saying we should kep an eye on social media channels for announcements: https://support.frontier.co.uk/kb/faq.php?id=169
Like maybe they were actually thinking about it.

Then this thread where FDev seemed to announce the Cobra MK4 offer to Xbox commanders:

Particularly this post by Zac Antonaci, where he says it's to give parity between Xbox and PC commanders on the offer.

However, to be clear, if we didn't make this available for Xbox players it would have then become unfair to them (as they couldn't have purchased at that time).

Ultimately this should be a positive thing, for the Xbox Community answering the questions they have been asking about the Cobra MK IV but instead seems to be slipping into a debate about the finer points of shorter term promotional offers.

Just asking for parity between all platforms. ie: limited ("exclusive") availability for PS4 owners, that meet some restrictive criteria, as a one-time offer.
eg: only those that originally pre-ordered, or launch players, or say first year owners.

Next paid expansion, I'm guessing. It's always been a reward for supporting the game, so my guess is that's when it'll be. Nothing stopping them from releasing it for all platforms on a time limited basis at that point either.

I didn't think that this thread was really the place for PC players to discuss the Pros or Cons of the Cobra MkIV.
This thread is to champion equivalence for the PS4 community and / or the wider user base that was not present within Elite prior to the release of Horizons.

That is PC players that have joined since December 2015, Xbox players that have joined since June 2016 and All PS4 players.

As an aside, have you tried it since the new mining mechanics have been released? A lot of players are reporting that the Cobra MkIV is quite good at it.
(I wouldn't know - I am on PS4)
