Windows Mixed reality

Still don't think I have the headset quite centered though. And the FOV is pretty crappy. Looking directly at text is fine; nice and sharp. But text off to your left and right is blurry.

When I tried out the Lenovo at the Microsoft store I felt the FOV was ok but like you I was annoyed with the very small sweet spot that I could see thru clearly. But as I used it, and played a couple of games, I didn't notice the blurriness at all. These were fast action type games and I was worried that a game like Elite Dangerous, which isn't fast paced and won't cause you to look in a concentrated direction, would suffer from the blurriness.

Some say the Lenovo has a better FOV than the Acer and HP, others say it really isn't much different. Others on here also have said that the Samsung unit has a very small sweet spot but I felt it was very close to the Rift.

You only installed steamVR and set up the WMR portal for it? No need to get a steam key for ED?

That's correct. Just install SteamVR and the WMR portal for StaemVR. I don't even have steam running while I play; Well, SteamVR, but not the main Steam bootstrapper client.

Hopefully I have better luck with the Lenovo than you did.

so, are you saying you don't need to run ED from Steam, that you can use the regular launcher, but need SteamVR running?

edit: whoops, asked and answered

One other nitpick, to look at your status displays requires extreme head motion to the left or right. 45 to 50 degrees won't do it. You need to be at 85 or 90 degrees for the screens to come up. Other than that, it was truly great.

You will want to turn that function off when in VR. It's all cool when you first play in VR but once you get into the game it gets annoying and in the way when dogfighting and other things.

I use voice attack to bring up any panel or you could just assign it another button for all the panels.

It's in one of the million options somewhere 😀

Thanks. I'll do that. Until I get my controller mounts in. Once I do that, I'll be able to sit further back and it won't be such a problem. 60 degrees or so (which is what I'll need with the mounts) is fine. It's just that 90 degrees is kind of a pain. And I use ASTRA with Voice Attack as well. I can even tell her to request docking and nothing looks different, but she still calls up the panels (where I can't see them if I'm looking straight ahead) and selects the correct panel and option. I can hear the beeps but since I'm not looking at the panel, I just see what's ahead of me.

On another note, I was playing this morning and I spent about an hour or so in the training missions (I know, I didn't do them when I first started, but I don't want to risk a 75 million credit Python). Anyhoo, It was great. I ended the session and shutdown the mixed reality app. I pulled off my headset and experience a bit of transition shock. It was jarring going from the fairly low light of ED to broad daylight. I pulled it off and, "Whoa. Now that's extreme." But I have to say that VR does seem to be the way Elite Dangerous was truly meant to be played. Flat screen isn't bad, but there's no way to translate the scale properly to flat screen. It's the difference between seeing a picture of a cockpit and actually being in a cockpit.

I've gone on elsewhere about the problems I had getting my Levono to work, but finally did so (hardware issue related to the USB3.0 ports and drivers needed to be reinstalled).

Anyway, on high VR settings I'm having a smooth frame rate in stations, and a slight drop in planetary rings. So my next quest is to try and learn what the best settings are to smooth things out further while keeping as much graphic quality as possible.

Sorry to hear about your problems, but at least it wasn't with the actual WMR unit itself. I find if I turn on the frame rate counter by pressing Ctrl + F (and raising the headset because it's not displayed in the headset itself) the frame rate usually reads as rather low on the shadow window on the desktop. But with the headset on, I don't notice any jerkiness. The only time I have any lag is when first start and initialize ASTRA (where it resets all variables). That can take a few seconds to respond, but after that, it's fine. I'm thinking the low frame rate reports on the desktop window are for that window only as I sure don't notice any jerkiness in the headset.

Thanks, but I don't have any lag problems in VR; just the bit of time it takes to initialize Voice Attack.

By the way, how is your experience in WMR going? Or do you not have your headset yet?

Got it. Working well (after wrestling with it for 3 days) but my eye distance is right on the edge of acceptable, can't physically move the lenses, and it has a small sweet spot (as do all the WMR I hear).

so it takes a while to get in the zone but I'm enjoying the experience. Especially since I've improved performance thanks to those links.

Yeah, The Samsung Odyssey is the best because of the physical IPD adjustment. Maybe when they come down some more in price I'll be able to afford it.

Doesn't the Pimax require base stations for head tracking? VR NOOB here. Before I got my WMR set, I knew absolutely nothing about VR. I still don't know much, but from what I've heard Occulus and Vive require base stations for head tracking. I would think the Pimax is the same way but then I could easily be wrong.

Hello everyone, I bought the acer for microsotf mixed reality, and I only have to say that the experience is sublime, everything looks great and works as it should be, I have two questions that I hope some of you can help me solve, as I do to get out of my chair and walk through the cockpit of my anaconda, I read that it can be done, and the other thing, I would like to be able to share their graphic configurations within the elite to compare with mine and test the Best possible gaming experience, thanks

To get up and walk around your bridge, you will need to make sure you have boundary set. But you won't be able to interact with any of the control panels. As for the other, I have no idea.

I am looking into getting a new headset cause i got a new phone and it no longer sits in my Samsung Gear VR.

Been looking at the cheapest option of Dell but i'd like to know if anyone has had any experience with that? How is the experience so far for any of the headsets?
Things i am trying to answer are:

Can you read the details on the console? (eg cause of the way i used RiftCat i had to sacrifice resolution and cant read things like planet distance etc or they were hard to read)

Has anyone been experiencing drifting? Headset isnt moving but your fov slowly moves towards one direction.

Much appreciated if i can get feedback from those of you whom have had experience

I can easily read everything on the console. I can't say for sure about drifting, though, but I sometimes recenter my headset because I shift around a bit in my wheeled chair.

However, I do notice that as a default, I seem to be just a few inches to the right on my shoulders. I look down and it's not symetrical. My head is always a little to the right. Anyone else notice that?

Thank you very much, and better configure the boundary and I could actually get out of the chair (real) and I could see how the commander without head sat in the chair inside the cabin of the ship, you could walk to where your real space allows it , very good.

It does need base stations to work. Or at least one.
