Wing Missions in Solo? Is That Possible?

I tried a wing assasination, with a quickly converted mining Corvette I had in the rim. I had 1700mj shields and I got smashed. I think my Anaconda with 2200mj would have been fine. I had messed up my third load of the 7a Shield booster deployments however.
Wing assassination missions are easier to solo in medium and small ships (FDL, FAS, Vulture, Viper etc).

That was my last trading interaction with T9. Picked a wing trading mission to transport a lot of gold, but the problem is that T9 has one of worst manueverability in the game. I think there is a dice roll going on every time you are on one of those trading missions, to determine if an enemy ship will be send after you or not. As far as I can tell, there is a small chance of this, if you do a single-run trade mission. That being said, until the mission it's finished, the dice is constantly rolling. So if you are in something as slow and as unmanouverable as T9 is, you are in for a constant stress, until the trade mission is fully finished. In most of other ships, you just submit to interdicition and boost out a few times -most of enemies won't ever catch you! But loaded T9 is a flying fortress without a black hole of a power source to support this elephant. You would have to have a defensive power of a capital ship to defend your cargo when AI decides to send an enemy after you.. OR be a master in this, in evading enemies in this situation. I got so ed first (and last) time I didn't even waited for that re-buy screen, was sick of gaming taking this long in this situation to exit the game too, so I just unplugged the whole PC to finally f*** it off. Next time I had run the game, was the first time I saw my status as not "idle" or "docked", but "DEAD". Good gods, finally the end of that bull. Paid my fine of<ruined all my previous efforts>, and never touched any T's ever again for a trading missions. For me for this, best worked Imperial Clipper -decent cargo space, and huge speed to escape! Since AI likes to send after you always fully battle-upgraded Anacondas and such. And I am one of those who does trading missions to NOT to encounter any hostilities on the way, just to unwind after work and make some money in game, to have more "exploration" options afterwards. Got enough of stress during the work-day already for fuc**** out loud... Even a slow (and pricey af) Imperial Cutter can do those missions easy. I have not much experience with non-imperial vessels.. But man, T's are not good for much in this, if AI is sending after you things like fully battle-upgraded fully battle-thirsting Python or Anaconda and such. Don't forget people, that we are talking now about a lot of cargo trading missions in here and nothing else. I personally respect your every personal preference. Just sharing my experiences with T9, for someone mentioned it. All the love, fellow commanders! muck muck

anything is possible you just gotta believe! you just gotta believe! 5785 biowaste for 4 million credits you just gotta believe! believe in yourself! use the power of the j key! when you learn to take advantage of it, it can change your life! it can make things happen! believe! the bgs was changed many times over with the power of the j key, you can change it too! the first hurdle, is yourself! believe! and make that 5785 biowaste appear in hutton orbital, you can do it! claim that 4 million! change the bgs, change your life! it starts, with the power to believe! believe!

I demand necromancer purge! call a suitable amazon/barbarian whatever! with excellent, ahem, attributes! the necromancers must be stopped.

Done playing with Engineers for a bit, got my Asp Explorer up to 40 ly jumps so headed back to home base (Cubeo) and checked out the planet textures (Cubeo 3 A - really nice).

Checked out the missions available and got a bit of a puzzled look on my face at a number of them. A number of the new missions giving out over a million credits at a time require that they be done in wings of 3 players.

Can someone in Solo still accept these missions and just ferry back and forth to keep picking up more cargo or was this set of missions NOT supposed to be available in Solo Mode? Can we pick up NPC's as a wing? If yes, how?

Color me curious.
I'm part of a squadron which is working the BGS. This means LOTS of time spent in CZs trying to win wars in lots of systems. I actually only pick the wing Massacre Missions from the board even if I'm the only one of my squadron playing simply because the total target count for the wing missions is lower than non-wing missions e.g. a non-wing mission for 30M credits might ask for 72 kills to complete but the same 30M wing mission will typically ask for 56 kills. I have no idea why FDev set them like this but it's worth doing.

Also, and at the risk of this being nerfed, it's worth pointing out that if there are 4 people in a wing you can all pick up the same wing mission (say 15M for 20 kills), complete it and then each player only share their wing mission at the end one at a time and earn 60M credits in total.

It's possible, but you won't get paid for the goods, only at the end when you've accomplished the mission. Or am I wrong? So the paying is not as good as it seems for someone alone.
Payment is quartered, on the expectation that up to four people will do a mission.

So, payment to source, say, a shipment of palladium, would normally factor the average cost of that palladium into the reward. For wing missions, it's factored, but then the reward is quartered, so wing source missions like that can leave you significantly out of pocket.

If I have a ship with say 700 ton cargo capacity and take on a wing mission delivering 5000 tons it can be accomplished with multiple trips. If I get a few friends together and we all take on that 5000 tons mission it is quickly resolved and every one gets amazingly paid for their effort. Maybe the Frontier Devs point was to get players to work together. The problem is instancing with other players doesn't work every time. Oh well.

To be honest, part of the problem with trading is that if you play for long enough your stats for combat are bound to go up & you'll face harder and harder enemies. God help you if you like to mix it up a bit and enjoy shooting up a HazRes one day, and then chilling some trading the next. Because your combat rating in an FDL or Vulture will determine what is sent against you in the trading mission, flying a t6. From "Casual annoyance" to "Almost certain death".

For me i'd prefer that FDEV stopping pursuing things like Multiplayer (which simply isn't going to work with the current architecture) and powerplay (which few players bother with) and fix some of the issues with the existing game. Like the rather odd way they balance ratings just according to how much of a given activity you've done. Fine for mining and exploring, but not so much for Combat where it's fed back into the game to determine what you face in missions.

I would love to be able to hire additional NPC ships to fly alongside me and provide escorts or additional capacity. Oddly enough the code clearly exists in the game because the SLF work as wingmen & they do exist in one training scenario (or they used to back when I did them) so I don't think there would even be that much work involved. For me that's far, far more interesting than powerplay, engineers, multiplayer and even space legs. It could even be an interesting extra layer of choosing appropriate pilots for what you're doing. EG it's a bad idea to hide a law-abiding pilot to carry out criminal raids or visibly criminal ones for smuggling. Sure there is some complexity in those ships if you jump further than they do, so the game could either simply limit your jump range to the lowest in your team or delay their arrival until a calculated time afterwards to represent them catching up. Hell, you could even install some handwavium along the lines of you installing a "hyperspace tow" so you all jumped together, limited to the longest-ranged ship in the group.

I find that the ships sent against me depend on what ship I'm sitting in when I accept the mission.

If I'm sitting in my Cutter I'll invariably get chased by Dangerous/Deadly Condas. If I take a similar mission when I'm sitting in my smuggler Krait MkII I'll get chased by Dangerous/Deadly FASs or FdLs.

My favourite trick is to accept Source & Return missions in my Krait then switch to my combat Vette and fly around for a bit waiting to get interdicted. When I've cleared the field of chasing enemies I switch to my T9 to go get the goods unmolested. ;)

My favoutite trick is to boost away in my T9 after being interdicted and when system security jumps in I assist with the kill. Even these conda's are not really a match

I'm in an Anarchy faction. There's never any cops around in our systems to help. :(

I agree, but then again I must be the only one who managed to had his combat rank at 0% until recently. Combat was the only thing to learn in this game I was still postponing for later on. I had already assets worth around 350.000.000 cr when I finally got my first percentage in combat whatsoever. I was running some trading mission in my Cutter after some longer time out in space, and suddenly a T10 is after me; I got finally ed af, remembering my last experiences with my old T9 trying to outmaneuver even a stationary rock >: I didn't even waited for him, a turned around and went for him myself. My Cutter blasted him into pieces in mere 30s, poor couldn't even do a single roll in that thing before got completely annihilated... But to be fuc**** around for 5 mins with some fully upgraded Anaconda I don't really have time nor nerves to be honest, when out there trying to get some peace. I know
that I will get to that point in the future, but just not yet. I buyed this game mainly for exploring the Milky way, and one day for spacelegs and atmospherics landings, not being limited like in some games to "few worldspaces only"..

Same wish here. Also that ever-empty second pilot seat is just not fitting much, if it will be always empty. I never touched any kind of multiplayer in last two decades, nor am I planning to much, so to fill that seat in this fasion is kind of out of question for me. How about something X4 -ish, like an autopilot and single-player option to command more ships than one at the same time? Imagine to have a FLEET of ships. Try to interdict me now...I wouldn't even have to slow down, just to send half of my squadron after it and then have them return back to formation:- Let me guess, some multiplayer balancing kind of thing again..
Anyway, so much potential in this game! Keep it rolling Fdevs :]

Yes you can!

I did a couple alone - albeit in a Private group, until my wing buddy CMDR ToCoSo turned up.

Although they wont make you billionaires, I enjoy the fun of actually trucking and shipping large quantities of things around! Having a T-9 helps alot!
Wing missions CAN make you a billionaire in Solo if you do it right. Stack Wing Pirate Massacre missions: get one mission from as many different factions as possible, but for the same target pirates. You can maximize average payout per kill to over six million easily. Then just find a good spot to hunt said pirates.

I've got 3.3 billion that says this works, and it is so, so fun.

These missions do not REQUIRE a wing of 3, they are simply available for and give rewards to, a wing. They are quite possible to complete alone, and I've done quite a few of these. Haulage missions are simply time-consuming, as they often require the moving of large volumes of cargo - 2000+ tons being common, which means multiple trips to move it all. Wing combat missions will pit you against greater numbers of, and more challenging (for the AI) opponents, but are also quite possible to accomplish solo.

The wing missions are OK but you have to look at the cost and net gain. A 10 million CR mission that has a 5 million cost plus the transport of 5k pieces of cargo by yourself is a no go for me as a solo hauler. You can get the same net results with a Python running those 2 million CR missions in less time.

They do make sense for a group as you can split the cost and if you run the bigs like 728T in my Cutter, it can be done quite quickly. Our wing will share out the gains with someone that needs the credits, they can haul a few tons and get some needed capital easily.
