Winter 2023 DLC Speculation

Yeah, I agree that the markhor would be the best candidate as it really has the mountain goat look that the public would recognise. The takin is a mountain goat too, but a bit weird, I've heard people call them wildebeest or cow and things like that.
But a big problem is that we already got the ibex leading the Euro DLC, and maybe a second goat would be too similar? But then who is better candidate? 🤔
Luckily, the Europe Pack is actually headlined by the lynx, so a goat could still be the poster child for a mountains dlc.

Yes, I think the markhor is the best candidate for taking the lead role since it looks impressive and it has the typical goat shape.

If they want to go for the cuteness, maybe an Alpine marmot could be highlighted, but a goat is a better representation for mountains in my opinion.

We had the jokes about an all ungulate pack, would anyone pay for an all bovids/caprines pack?
  • Sichuan Takin
  • Markhor
  • Nigerian Dwarf Goat
  • Musk Ox
  • Chamois
  • Barbary Sheep
  • Japanese Serow
I would be the first one in line for this.
Caprines are my favourite ungulate so yes I would buy this. My roster would be this though:
  1. Barbary Sheep
  2. Muskox
  3. Takin
  4. Markhor
  5. Chamois
  6. Rocky Mountain Goat
  7. Not sure, maybe Bharal?
Not counting domestics for this since that's an entire different story.

I want multiple caprines in a Mountain Pack but honestly I don't see it happening. I think it will be between Takin and Markhor and I think the latter has the edge as it would be very easy to make from the Ibex we already have. I'd prefer Takin out of the two though and if I had my way we'd be getting Barbary Sheep instead lol.

But yea if we do get two caprine species I hope it's Barbary Sheep and Takin, both are very different size wise, from different continent's currently lacking a caprine and also from. Pretty different climate's. I think this is perfect for variety plus I think it'd be more likely for Frontier to give one more popular caprine and a less popular one instead of dropping the two most wanted together. (Still would bet on just the Markhor though)

Now I wonder...We all want the WE to be finally used for birds, but as it does not look like it right now, would people be okay with a 3rd bat species? Something like a Vampire bat? Yeah, another bat, but it looks very different from the cute flying foxes and fruit bats. Although, I am not sure they would be suitable for a walk-through, given they drink blood of other mammals.

I wish there was a smaller, non-walkable exhibit for these types of animals...

I actually wouldn't mind a 3rd bat. But, I'd personally choose an insectivorous species, like the Mexican free-tailed bat.
Also, bulldog bats are kinda ugly-cute, as well as ghost bats.
To be honest, I personally don't want the vampire bat, but I see why people like it

Honestly? No, i would be kinda mad.
I really want those feathery firends, and the community has been asking for them for years now. So getting a third bat before any aviary bird would feel like getting spit in the face.
EDit: Scratch that, i already feel this way after getting a second bat :D

Not interested, I would rather get the two missing regular exhibit animals first, chameleon and cobra. If we get those two, and a two toed sloth, then I would accept it. I like it, it’s just not important enough.

That is fair, all of those look fairly different from what we have.

Yeah, of course, if there would be any real possibility of finally get a bird into WE, I would not even mention a 3rd bat, but after so many "it will be the next pack, just wait and see" again and again, I kind of lost hope of that.

Any third bat should be American and not fruit-eater, after 2 fruit bats covering Africa, Asia and Oceania. So except for the ghost bat, all your options would be fine for me. 🙂
Just curious, but why not the ghost bat?
It would also raise the question of how common are insectivorous bats in zoos, too.
As far as I know, there are a few species of pipistrelles kept in Japanese zoos, but even then the ones I know are all wild caught.
Actually, you're right. I was under the belief that the bats at the zoo were insectivorous, but they're actually Seba's short-tailed bat, which eat fruit

I'm kinda doubting we'll get birds at all, as well. If they come, great, I'm happy, but if not, then at least I will not have missed anything

Not interest in the Cobra personally, because their main selling point is the Collar, which I guess would not be visible, but the Chameleon and Two-toed Sloth I would want more than another bat.

Yeah i get that. Even then i would prefer they would do something different with the WE than just add bats for the remainder of the support, something like sugar gliders or small primates

After seeing a cobra for the first time, I was actually underwhelmed after the hype of everyone saying its a must have. Sticking to the usual exhibit box routines, it's just gonna look like any other snake. If the collar would be visible, it might be weird to see a snake in such a position for an extended loop compared to all other snakes ingame.

The tree kangaroo on the other side... I don't know if New Guinea highlands have a rainforest different enough from the surrounding lowlands to consider the tree kangarro a mountain animal. And it would fit more in a future Islands DLC which we still have more than enough candidates to fill it.

Flora, Yes. Montane Rainforest are characterized by reduced diversity and biomass of woody plants with increased numbers of epiphytes, ferns and mosses. With higher altitudes also conifers are starting to appear (right image) and leaves of deciduous become smaller and thicker.
Generally, for example matschie's tree kangaroo uses this environment and especially mosses to camouflage itself in trees. And thick fur protect it from colder temperatures in highlands. Afterall climate of new guinean mountains is apparently temperate. Vastly diferent flora than in lowlands.

I think the reason why the Cobra is hyped more than perhaps other snakes is that the engine is called Cobra Engine. In case of snakes I would rather like to see a Black Mamba. But If we should get another Reptile Exhibit I prefer a chameleon or a gecko
