Winter 2023 DLC Speculation

Not gonna lie, this is probably my most wanted pack at the moment. A proper barnyard/domestic pack, with Highland Cattle, African Dwarf Goats, Kunekune Pigs and a horse species. My preference would be a larger horse like a Clydesdale or Gallineer’s Cob, but Planet Zoo would likely do a Shetland Pony instead.
Shires, Percherons, and Suffolk punch would be cool to see. I would by a horse pack lol, but probably not the best for pz.

I notice this year dlc were very warm, tropical feeling.
We have in spring a tropical, south east asian dlc. In summer we have a desert theme animal, and now in fall, an island dlc. So who knows what we will have, but Im expecting a highland/cold dlc.

I've said this before but I really think it could go in any direction at this point. Everyone seemed so certain about a Temperate pack (myself included). And what we got was... Temperate animals from a specific part of the world that most people probably assume live in the tropics (and scenery that reinforces that idea). We know Frontier has been picking off the top 10 of the meta wishlist. And a lot of these animals could fit in a range of themes. For pretty much all of the top 10 I can think of at least 2-3 potential, very viable themes they might fit into.

Some of it probably depends on how many more packs we have left. We may be due for another Conservation/Aquatic-style pack where the animal selection is a grab bag. Something like "Adaptations" or a really broad animal category (e.g., arboreal, herbivores) would be a simple way to work in so many of these in one shot. They've never done it before but... Assuming the game really is winding down? I could see them really stretching categories with the last few DLC.

(Not doom-speaking here, just trying to be realistic based on what we know. I want to be wrong and I'll change my tone the second if/when we have evidence to the contrary! Haha.)

Speaking of potential "Highlands Animal Pack", shall we list out what the community seeks?
Okay, here’s a discussion:

What unpopular or unmentioned DLC do you want?

I would probably go with Urban or Petting Zoo.
I'd say Vivarium Pack consisting of 4 habitat species and 8 exhibit species! 🤣🤣

Cuz you see, reptile houses always had been a favourite spot in zoos; where you could see a wide range of critters in a single building and some of which may even be capable of recreatonh the animals' original habitats completely

Personally I think we will probably see support til fall next year with the Anniversary animal being the final. If we are really really lucky, we will get a finale pack December, but I have serious doubts about that and I think it's pushing the luck a bit. I don't want to go into it too much especially as I think we all talk in circles around how many packs we have left. We don't know, but we can guess. That's my personal guess.

I try to look at it with the approach of - Frontier is targeting sales from a few different demographics: - general gaming public, families with kids, zoo and animal enthusiasts. There might be another there but I'm drawing blanks Atm. I think while we are the most vocal, certainly on here, we are not their largest sales base. When I put serious thought into what packs we may get, I try to consider the other two groups too, just like Frontier would.

I was wondering... What or which part made each of every DLC packs took three to four months to be released? Before those came up with or started making, was Frontier or Planet Zoo creators and designers coming up with ideas or what?

Well initially covid complications took a toll on the initial plan of dlc releases, that's the public reason we know that the delay of any dlc was. For why it takes 3-4 months, well we can only speculate why. Frontier needs to do research on animal models, behaviours even zoo visits to capture animal sounds and study them before they can make each animal. Some animals are easier to make than others because they can be based off an already existing animal or entirely new animal require the entire animal to be built from scratch such as the porcupine. Or perhaps it is a business model that frontier has found successful to release a new dlc each financial quarter.

Also Jurassic World Evolution 2? (except when one dlc pack featuring new creatures after previous pack featuring only sceneries and items) Before COVID, first one's took shorter time like... over one month, was it?

And sorry I ask this but about the DLC pack featuring four habitat animals without themes of items and sceneries, how long did that take?

Jwe2 was not affected by any delay as far as im aware, the usual one month release of the first dlc then followed the typical trend of dlc releases. It was summer of 2020 that the covid delays for planet zoo happened resulting in only 3 dlc in the year compared to the expected 4. Im not the most qualified to answer for jurassic related questions though, i can see it takes the same amount of time as planet zoo dlc takes to make.

Hear me out: Anniversary animal 2023: Blackbuck. December 2023 Highlands animal Pack. Spring 2024 Treetops pack. Summer 2024 Aviary Expansion pack. And finally 2024 anniversary animal Greater Rhea or Wild Boar. Isn't sound perfect? We had a great bunch of most requested desert, tropical and Oceania animals. So, what left? What wants the community the most? Cold climate animals, South American animals, monkeys, and birds. Wolverine, Coati, monkeys, parrots, etc. Literally this could be perfect (at least for me). The inclusion of 8 new cold climate animals from Asia, South America and Africa. A treetops pack with the coati, 2 monkeys and a bunch of new climbable pieces and tons of foliage. And for the perfect ending, the first expansion with flying birds (also terrestrial ones) with some new items, enrichment items, as well with the updates. And the best thing, 2 free new animals, an asian ungulate and a South American Bird / Most requested European animal. Literal perfection

I like it but I’ve kinda lost the idea of a treetops pack. I just don’t think the scenery theme is strong enough to cover over 150+ pieces. My personal prediction is that they’re gonna single out the two remaining gaps in the game and just give them their own packs like they did with Oceania.

Anniversary animal for 2023: Grey Crowned Crane/Ethiopian Wolf/Masai Giraffe. Highlands Animal Pack in the winter covering animals like Andean Bear, Pallas Cat, Takin, Markhor, Baboon. In the Spring we get a Latin America Scenery pack giving us 5 more SA animals. My picks would be Ocelot, Coati, Spider Monkey, Collared Peccary or Scarlet Ibis then either a bird or a second sloth in the WTE. And to end off either a bird expansion pack like you said or a farewell pack giving us the rest of the mammals (Barbary sheep, Secretary Bird, Serval, ABB, Wild Boar, Tree Kangaroo, Echidna, etc).

Ok so I’m usually bird this or bird that, blah blah blah, lots of same old same old.

I want an exhibit pack, I think Planet Zoo can use more little animals, and it’s a realistically easy dlc to produce in the 3-4 month development cycle. Coming along this dlc will be new exhibit sizes:
  1. Small (for the arthropods)
  2. Medium (for the frogs, but also some of the bigger bugs)
  3. Large (this is the current exhibit box, good for some of the snakes, lizards, large frogs, and swimming animals)
  4. Xtra-large (about 4 times the size of the normal exhibit box, can hold the iguanas, anacondas, and other large animals)
Not to mention the potential animal options we could have for this pack, I’ll give a couple:
  1. Naked Mole Rat
  2. Indian Cobra
  3. Gaboon Viper
  4. Green Anaconda
  5. Alligator Snapping Turtle
  6. Mata Mata turtle
  7. Pig nosed river turtle
  8. Giant Salamander (Japanese or Chinese)
  9. Cane Toad
  10. Blue Poison Dart Frog
  11. Mountain Chicken
  12. Coquí frog
  13. Cororobee frog
  14. Jackson Chameleon
  15. Leopard Gecko
  16. Madagascar Day Gecko
  17. Basilisk Lizard
  18. Frilled Lizard
  19. Leaf Cutter Ants
  20. Lorde Howes Stick Bug
  21. American Burying Beetle
  22. Hercules Beetle
  23. Orchid Mantis
  24. Golden Orb Weaver Spider
  25. Caribbean Hermit Crab
  26. Red Belly Pirhana
  27. Clownfish (and anemone!)
  28. African Chiclid
  29. Lionfish
  30. Blue Tang
