Winter 2023 DLC Speculation

I like it but I’ve kinda lost the idea of a treetops pack. I just don’t think the scenery theme is strong enough to cover over 150+ pieces. My personal prediction is that they’re gonna single out the two remaining gaps in the game and just give them their own packs like they did with Oceania.

Anniversary animal for 2023: Grey Crowned Crane/Ethiopian Wolf/Masai Giraffe. Highlands Animal Pack in the winter covering animals like Andean Bear, Pallas Cat, Takin, Markhor, Baboon. In the Spring we get a Latin America Scenery pack giving us 5 more SA animals. My picks would be Ocelot, Coati, Spider Monkey, Collared Peccary or Scarlet Ibis then either a bird or a second sloth in the WTE. And to end off either a bird expansion pack like you said or a farewell pack giving us the rest of the mammals (Barbary sheep, Secretary Bird, Serval, ABB, Wild Boar, Tree Kangaroo, Echidna, etc).
I hoped that that Treetop pack idea (probably featuring tree-climbers and tree-residents) will have African leopard since leopards are tree-climbers.

I was watching some animalogic and saw that the sand cat video had over 10M views, I wonder if the sand cat was the meme animal of the arid pack... Because if there is indeed this concept of a meme animal or just an animal that is popular in the internet I think shoebill and pallas cat do have a lot of potential.
I had no idea they count as meme animals. I saw them in a zoo a couple of years ago, and they really where an active bunch of cuties, I had never heard of them before. For me I would say fennec fox always felt more like a "meme" animal, cause I've only seen them in a huge zoo once when I where abroad, but I've seen them quite a lot in both wildlife documentaries and even some in illustrations.

Hear me out: Anniversary animal 2023: Blackbuck. December 2023 Highlands animal Pack. Spring 2024 Treetops pack. Summer 2024 Aviary Expansion pack. And finally 2024 anniversary animal Greater Rhea or Wild Boar. Isn't sound perfect? We had a great bunch of most requested desert, tropical and Oceania animals. So, what left? What wants the community the most? Cold climate animals, South American animals, monkeys, and birds. Wolverine, Coati, monkeys, parrots, etc. Literally this could be perfect (at least for me). The inclusion of 8 new cold climate animals from Asia, South America and Africa. A treetops pack with the coati, 2 monkeys and a bunch of new climbable pieces and tons of foliage. And for the perfect ending, the first expansion with flying birds (also terrestrial ones) with some new items, enrichment items, as well with the updates. And the best thing, 2 free new animals, an asian ungulate and a South American Bird / Most requested European animal. Literal perfection
My only concern is how the whole community's top wish list animal the Gaur will fit in to this scenario?

I posted this on the PZ Reddit, but here's my prediction for the Winter dlc:
Mountain Animals Pack
  • Hamadryas baboon/gelada (headline animal)
  • Pallas's cat
  • Andean bear
  • Alpine marmot (North American or European)/wolverine
  • Takin
  • Markhor
  • Himalayan monal
  • Chinese giant salamander (exhibit animal)
I think it's doable, I think it's realistic given what we've received in the past, and I'd be quite happy with this.
I just had a thought. Assuming we get a back like this in the winter, that does include either the baboon or gelada. I've been assuming an Arboreal animals pack would be just that, an animals pack. And I do think that's how it would function best. But it's possible it could be a scenery pack in spring 2024 and look like this:

Arboral/Canopy Pack
  • Golden lion tamarin
  • Colobus monkey
  • Howler monkey
  • Tree kangaroo
  • Slow loris (WE)
And then the pack has lots of new foliage (including climbable foliage) and tons of new climbing frame pieces and pieces to build indoor domes and habitats better etc. I think it just depends on if they want to rework and improve the climbing system, and how much work that will take vs what they can put into a dlc. I think if the system was totally improved and overhauled, I'd be ok with a smaller pack to compensate.

So besides the quokka, what meme animals do you think will appear in other packs?
  1. Shoebill: maybe a bird pack?
  2. Pallas Cat: grumpy cat will be in a highlands pack
  3. Rain frog? Stretch, but my god they are cute
Any other meme animals you can see frontier using?
Honey Badger is definitely meme famous. Though I'm having a hard time figuring out a theme, since we've gotten a grassland and arid pack.

Meme animals left:

  • Pallas cat
  • Honey badger
  • Manatee (not likely due to mechanics)
  • Shoebill

Edit: forgot about the sea otter. Also pretty meme material

True, its only been a week of everyone in this thread and its the only thing we discuss basically lol. I just can't think of any other pack they would go with.
I know Frontier has stuck with warmer climate animals this year and that a lot of people are feeling like we will see a cool climate pack next, but I'm not convinced. When I look at what the most wanted animals from the meta lists we get:

  • Secretarybird
  • Coati
  • Tree kangaroo
  • Walrus
  • Wolverine
  • Small new world monkies
  • Baboon
  • Musk Ox
  • Takin
  • Chameleon
  • Cobra
  • Shoebill
  • Spectacled bear
It's worth noting that all of these animals have less than 300 votes each.

Now I am not an employee at Frontier but I have a few speculations.

1 - they are interested in making as much revenue as possible, especially after their loss last financial year
2- they want their packs to appeal to as many people as possible, with their three main demographics being causal gaming public, families with kids, and zoo/animal enthusiasts
3 - community engagement is a core element of frontiers market plan, so while they are not going to follow the metalist they will include 1-2 animals from time to time
4 - they break their packs down as such 1-2 community animals, 1-2 rig reusers, 1-2 educational and conservationally important animal, 1 oddball to keep things unpredictable and to generate buzz, and an exhibit animal.
5 - they are winding the game down, whether that means only 1 pack or another 5 is anyones guess.

When I look at the above list I think that while a mountain type pack is possible it is unlikely. I think that we are more likely to get "treetops" (secretarybird, coati, tree kangaroo, chameleon, wolverine, small monkey) ",Tundra" (musk ox, walrus, snow bunny, wolverine- yes I know it's in there twice I am just thinking of what they might include in whatever pack, it's pretty loose and Im not sticking to it hard, spectacled bear, takin ) "savannah" as much as I hate that idea, there is an unlimited possibility of stuff for Frontier to go with

How would a Secretary bird fit into a treetops pack?

Also for your 4th point, a Highlands Animal Pack would fit that rubric. 1-2 community animals would be Wolverine and Baboon, 1-2 rig reusers would be Spectacled Bear and the Markhor, Oddball would be the marmot, and the educational animal would be a toss up.
