Winter 2023 DLC Speculation

Not unless they figure out a way to make different exhibit models share a box. Having clownfish in one tank and damselfish in another, instead of all together, would be a massive let down.

A bunch of African cichlids would be cool, though.
Maybe instead of one individual animal there are “sold” in packs in the exhibit market? (I should specify, not an actual DLC pack, but an ingame “pack”)

  1. African cichlids pack: the exhibit will contain 5 different species
  2. Caribbean Reef Pack: 5 species including invertebrates
  3. Pacific Reef Pack: 5 species including invertebrates
  4. Amazon river pack: Amazon river fish
Maybe some fish are sold individually?
  1. Piranha
  2. LionFish
  3. Moray Eel
  4. Jellyfish
  5. Seahorse
  6. Octopus
Of course this means you couldn’t breed the pack fish, but I would be fine with that to get them in game.

Personally I would like fish but as looping animated props, like the waterfall particle effects, but a little different. I'm not going to be breeding or looking at them too much beyond building for them when I want to, and I think having them figure out where to swim and or improving the exhibit system enough to have them would be a bit of a drain on the games ai resources. Let me have a spawner with say 20 fish that "swim" in a small 2x2 or 4 X 4 or 8x8 radius, give them 4 flexicolour channels, (each channel changes the look of five fish). Make multiple spawners for different species, and then Iet people stack them for interested and varied tanks. They would have no exhibit box to combat, or any preplaced props. I can then place my spawners anywhere - from a decorative pond, to a hippo or croc pool, to a naturalised penguin habitat - and I don't have to worry about the ai keeping track of so many fish, because they're essentially a moving decoration

Jellyfish, crabs, eels, seahorses, octopi etc can be in an aquarium style exhibit.

Now that i played for almost 4 hours to the dlc I have to give my opinion around it.

The habitat animals are 10/10. I loved each one of them, they are so unique and are the best quality animals in the game for sure. The scenery has a solid 8/10, specially the new nets that are amazing. And sadly, the thing that I didn't liked, the Flying Fox, for me it's a 2/10. 0 uniqueness, it feels the same to the already bat in game. Thanks to god, it's really well done. At least is cool to have a new skin of the Egyptian fruit bat.

Very solid pack, amazing species and scenery. 8/10

So now we wait for November for the anniversary. Then it's a short wait for the December DLC
Always the "quickest" wait of the year! And especially since this new pack seems to have everybody amped up on both the animals and the scenery I'd expect the wait to be even shorter because folks will be playing and sharing a lot more. Hah.

Honestly, the fruit bat is great for what it is. Sure, we were all hoping for birds, but... I actually prefer the flying fox to the fruit bat so this is an upgrade for me! Haha.

The scenery is wildly perfect, though. 9.75/10 because certain aspects and pieces really should have been flexicolor and they aren't... But... Yeah. So good!

Honestly there more i look at the flying fox the more disapointing it gets. Its just a reskinned fruit bat, no new enrichment items or other stuff to set it apart, just the same exhibit with a switched layout. And while its beautifully made when you see it up close, you really dont notice its a different animal since its so small and fast moving.
Really makes me wish we got the tuatara or green tree python instead

I thought we already set expectations to receive one low effort reskin per pack? I see it as more variety for bats in the walkthrough exhibit.

Something I think is being underrated in potential highlands pack discussion is the golden snub-nosed monkey. NOT in place of a baboon species, but as a mutual addition in the somewhat nebulous seventh slot. They're cute, they've gone viral a few times, they'd help represent East Asia which could use a few more species. They're kept in a number of zoos throughout Asia, and from my understanding the fact that they aren't kept in Western zoos is predominantly due more to Chinese relations issues than not doing well in captivity- Los Angeles was supposed to receive 3 in 2009, for instance, but China reneged.

True, but i kinda assumed it would be the penguin. I never expected the flying fox to be something gamechaningly new or anything, but i hoped for atleast soemthing to make it different from the fruit bat. New type of enrichment items or a new style of the exhibit, something along those lines

Exhibits this year as a whole are just dissapointing:
  • sloths is questionable species with even more questionable overdesigned layout. Not really usefull just by looking at it from every possible side.
  • viper is just one big dissapoitment. Combination of no one asked about + dull colored snake #5, and back to exhibits with bad style. It should by any other reptile, really.
  • flying fox. As you said direct reskin from fruit-bat. Nothing much outside being new bat.
I also wish it would be tuatara instead. Atleast something extra for NZ, which this pack is all about anyway.

Now I’m in deep thought about winter dlc
All animals have been either southern hemisphere or warm biomes.
Think they will give us northern colder or they gonna do another warm dlc?
Maybe it’s a sign that next year will be all northern colder dlcs?
A full year of cold is a bit much, but I do think that the next pack will be highlands and will be cold climate. Plus we don’t need any cold climate foliage, we just need more animals from the cold, making perfect sense for a cold climate animal pack.
