Winter 2023 DLC Speculation

A full year of cold is a bit much, but I do think that the next pack will be highlands and will be cold climate. Plus we don’t need any cold climate foliage, we just need more animals from the cold, making perfect sense for a cold climate animal pack.
Maybe it could a more general northern hemisphere animal pack. Walrus, muskox as representative from the high north, wolverine and musk deer for the taiga areas followed by wild boar, black bear and a duck as the more temperate animals

Idk the name “Northern Hemisphere Animal Pack” or anything along those lines doesn’t fit well. The way I see it, you can either have highlands, or tundra, not both. If you choose tundra, you miss out on things like the Pallas cat or Markhor, if you choose highlands, you miss the musk ox. There’s no both ways.

Never said anything about having having highland/mountain animals in there tho. Yeah the norther hemisphere isnt really supposed to be the real name and i agree it would sound uncomfortable

Wolverine and a new type of ground bird would be enough to carry the pack for me :D
Yeah and the flying squirrel. Honestly not a Bad roster. We get a stoat like mustelid, a ground bird from Europe, one of the most requested animal in the wishlist and an unique WTE new animal type that is also very cute. Would buy in an instant. The musk deer is also a cool idea for the oddball slot, for sure better than another Brown bear or the roe deer.

Taiga could have for a scenery pack:
1. Wolverine
2. North American porcupine
3. Western capercaillie
4. Wapiti
5. Common European adder (Exhibit)
And additional for an animal pack;
6. Siberian musk deer
7. Wild boar
8. Common/Japanese raccoon dog

With Muskox, Rocky Mountain goat, Sable, Eurasian red squirrel, European wildcat and more as alternatives.

My take on this is that the probability definitely skews "highlands" rather than "tundra" by a longshot. Just by the viable animal options.

A pack that was anchored by the walrus and the musk ox with like, whatever tundra filler they add would pretty likely tank just by virtue of how "unwanted" the other animals would be relative to what the pack could have been. It would be Arid all over again. In constrast, you could create a highlands, Latin America, arboreal/treetops, temperate/woodlands, safari, or whatever pack with only animals in the top 50 of the metawishlist.

Not criticizing what individuals want. But I just think, the community at large, would sit at home for a pack like that.

EDIT: Literally the only other option I can find in the top 75 is the sea otter? And, I guess the wolverine is in the top 10 but... Despite their range in the context of how they would/could be organized into a pack? It just feels like a stretch.

I really hope for a Highlands / Mountains animal pack for the winter - there is a lot of potential for some good additions there.

One animal that I'd really enjoy that would fit into this pack would be the Chilean flamingo - they live in the southern part of South America, and live up to 4,500m up in the Andes. They also have the advantages of being another South American species, a more traditionally pink flamingo (compared to the mostly white greater flamingo), being a very easy reskin species and they are also in the top two most common flamingo species kept in both European and North American zoos.

Question is, would anyone else be happy getting the Chilean flamingo in a mountainous-themed pack?

I would like it. But just like with the Caribbean flamingo i rather get a more unique or new bird type before another flamingo.

The ratites and penguins we got at least look different from one another enough that each feel unique but other than the rhea (because of personal bias) i'm tired of getting the same type of bird over an over.

I even prefer another crane like damoiselle or crowned crane that look distinctive enough from the red crowned one.

More Flamingos would be great, it's not as wow as getting an American flamingo but at least it gives some much needed bird representation to South America.

Maybe instead of one individual animal there are “sold” in packs in the exhibit market? (I should specify, not an actual DLC pack, but an ingame “pack”)

  1. African cichlids pack: the exhibit will contain 5 different species
  2. Caribbean Reef Pack: 5 species including invertebrates
  3. Pacific Reef Pack: 5 species including invertebrates
  4. Amazon river pack: Amazon river fish
Maybe some fish are sold individually?
  1. Piranha
  2. Lionfish
  3. Moray Eel
  4. Jellyfish
  5. Seahorse
  6. Octopus
Of course this means you couldn’t breed the pack fish, but I would be fine with that to get them in game.
Which Moray Eel?
