Winter 2023 DLC Speculation

Congratulations everyone we are now one day closer to news, I’m honestly surprised I haven’t gone mentally insane yet, but baboons really got me distracted lol. Just hoping tomorrow breezes by so we can get to Monday and Tuesday for the reveal 🎉
If we get a baboon this year, will you support the arrival of the golden monkey next year?

If we get baboons for this year's mountain pack, then next year if we have East Asian animal packs, we must have golden monkeys. This is my strongest opinion

Not really, I would go from hating it to being not bothered by it. I still don’t think it really introduces anything to the roster for variety. If we’re looking at another Asian primate I’m going for Lion tailed macaque.

PRAISE YOU!!!

South Asia (Indian Subcontinent) needs a monkey.

Southeast Asia has a monkey. East Asia has a monkey, despite being a less monkey-rich region. South Asia has no monkey, despite it being one of the most iconic monkey areas on earth.

Lion-tailed macaques look like none of the current in-game monkeys. They’re prevalent in zoos around the world despite being an Endangered species. They’re social, highly entertaining, able to be terrestrial as well as arboreal. And they’re conservation icons of the Western Ghats, one of the world’s top biodiversity hotspots.

Team LTM!

I'll be very honest. Please don't kill me. For me, Highlands pack idea is just Arid pack 2.0. Every animal that I've seen is or a reskin or very similar to other animals. I hate the idea of having another "identical to already in game" dlc, is not what I'm looking for. But if the community wants it, what I can do 😅
Same. Mountain Animal Pack sounds exactly like something to follow SEA or Arid animal packs fate.

Let's be honest here, if we have to get an extremely niche mountain animal that is basically kept only in its country of origin plus Japan, the volcano rabbit is the best option in basically every way. Would add a cute, endangered small mammal, that represents a group of mammals that have so far not appeared in the game and is also an excellent endemic habitat species for Mexico.

I saw someone say that frontier was emphasizing the sun emoji in their post. Consider - Japan is known as "the land of the rising sun". This plus "discover" = greater Asia pack. Animal pack. I copy and pasted this from a post on mine in the spring speculation thread.

We get:

Asia
  • Wolverine
  • Golden snub nosed monkey
  • Takin - generic species with variants reminiscent of subspecies
  • Reeves Muntjac
  • Hamadryas baboon (it's in parts of Asia ok lemme have my baboon pls)
  • Tanuki
  • Sumatran tiger
  • King cobra
Its a reach but it's also the only full continent without a pack, I don't think it's impossible

The problem was they were both niche packs because they were both global region and biome packs at the same time so the breadth in which the animals can be used is limited arid was even worse in this since most of the animals were ungulates filling in no new niches.

highlands could suffer the same fate if people keep insisting on a roster half full of carpines because anyone who doesnt like caprines has no want for the pack and it inevitably wont be useful because it wont have rage if half of it is caprine substitutions. For the pack to be successful 2 eurasian caprines max and 3 total caprines max anything more will turn people away. It also cannot be central asian focused if it is it instantly because less useful it should have at least 3 of the animals be from other continents and I think the spectacled bear and gelda/hamadrayas make for good pick providing for both continental variety, climate variety and animal body plan diversity. So it can work but it can also completely fail.

This is why no matter how much people think it will work an all monkeys pack will absolutely fail because it has very little if any climate variation most monkeys live in the tropics plus it also has very like niche and general body plan diversity.

How dare you forget Antarctica
but in all seriousness I have had a theory that they are going through all the ingame biome and continent tags which for continent tags there are only 3 left asia, central america and antartica 2 of which are extremely likely to happen.

Going by this logic we should only have one monkey, one bear and one big cat because they fill the niche. Sorry but this is ridiculous 😂

Interesting theory, I wouldn't mind if we got that pack. The sun definitely seems like a hint but it really can go all ways 😅.

Every time before the update, to see such a "be nitpicking on words" type of speculation, my feelings are very complicated.

They have dropped clues this way before, and it's fun, it passes the time.

Speaking of, @paul78, where do you get those fantastic animal charts?! I could use a couple for an art project I'm working on. As references and for inspiration

Some incorrect photos (macaque, raccoon dog, black bear) there plus an extinct animal (wolf) and for some reason, what looks like a ZT2 mod (sika deer) so it’s always worth exercising caution with things like that.

ok, bro. To be honest, I love the animals you've chosen, and it would be nice to have one more ungulate.

Just a casual reminder that Greater Asia isn’t really a thing…

I think an Asia, East Asia, Eurasia, or South Asia pack are all viable though and would love those ideas.

Especially since we have the scenery for east Asia already, it would be fun to see serow, sika deer, raccoon dogs, golden snub-nosed monkeys and sable
