Winter 2023 DLC Speculation

A few months ago I was talking about the lack of species representing Japan in the game and most of the people didn't really care about that region of the world. Now we are discussing about a Japanese pack? đŸ˜‚ To be honest I'd be quite happy with an Asia pack with animals from China, Japan and India but I don't think we need a complete pack for Japan only. If I get the raccoon dog and the japanese serow, I'll be more than happy.
That being said, I think Frontier needs a strong pack right now to boost the sale of the game and an Asia pack would probably not be the best option. I'd go with a Mountain pack with species from NA, SA, Europe, Africa and Asia. A bird pack would be the top but I'm not that a dreamer đŸ¥²

All this Asia pack chat from yesterday has me intrigued…

Only problem is it can’t include the Wolverine, unless it’s a North Asia Pack.

While I have wanted more Japanese wildlife for a while, I think just one or two species would make that area feel well represented. In terms of Asian animals missing, I think India is sorely lacking and then there are the Eurasian species that could tick a few off Europe's list too. I'm not sure if a general 'Asia' pack is the way to go? As its such a massive and diverse continent, I think it would leave too many people feeling left out. It may be better to bring them in to other biome packs the way we have been discussing, ie:

  • Tanuki in a Tundra/Taiga/other cold-weather pack
  • an Indian macaque into an Urban Wildlife pack
  • a Langur in an Arboreal pack
  • Himalayan Tahr or Nilgai in a Mountains pack
etc

Don't we already have the Tibetan flags? There are some very similar and customisable ones in the Indian scenery - I've used them as Tibetan flags before

You mean like oceania, tropical and arid?
Oceania is way more focused than 'Asia' if you look at even just the land size. I'm not saying it's not diverse but Asia blows it out of the park in that respect.

I think the failure of Tropical was exactly that it was so generic, it couldn't tick everyone's boxes. It was a great pack for me but I know a LOT of people felt that it lacked the tropical animals that they were hoping for. It really highlighted the lack of SA representation.

Again, a main complaint of Arid was that it was purely African wildlife.

Asia is way too huge and diverse to be covered as a single pack and, as Charlie said, we have the SE Asia Animal pack. What we're missing is SOUTH Asian representation and cold-weather Asian / Eurasian species.

I think Japan would be sufficient with the Serow... Tanuki is welcome too, though. I prefer tanuki, I just think hoofstock should be prioritized since they are more common in the wild and therefore probably zoos...

That's actually not the case, Japanese serow are pretty uncommon in zoos. But then again it could be a case of commonplace in the JAZA in japan but not elsewhere similar to other niche asian animals.
