[WIP] The Elite Ship One Glance Reference

I'm confused, how are both the Viper III and the Cobra III the fasted un-engineered ships in the game? Based on the numbers below, the Viii is the fastest (un-engineered) ship, bar none.

Viper
+ Fastest unengineered non-boost speed in the game. (512 m/s)

Cobra Mk III
+ Fastest unengineered ship with regular thrusters (Cruise 325m/s ~ Boost 464m/s) -- Stinja.
Check the bolded part. The Viper uses EPTs for its speed.

It's actually 2195, if you use military grade composite and pack it to the gills with HRPs (this is before engineering). A similar fit Cobra Mk.IV has 2640, but the viper will easily outrun it (295/372 m/s vs 210/315 m/s) and it's also slightly more agile. Also, the viper's armour only weighs 9t, vs the cobra's 27t. The Viper Mk.IV is Elite's best small light tank.

Coriolis links:

So the CMKIV has more HP. Of course it’s simultaneously the slowest small ship in the game, so it’s par for the course.

I’m a fan of the tankiness of the VIV, though. It was the ship that got me my federal ranking to Admiral as the perfect ground base assault craft: Dumb fire missiles to take out skimmers and the power generator. And an SRV to scan the terminals. It got me the Federal Corvette.

Cool, cheers.

Slightly weird one here, dunno how useful turns out to be, but assuming un-engineered 5A thrusters, Dolphin is pretty much the only ship I know of in which it is impossible for it's total mass including full fuel to ever go over it's thrusters minimum mass stats. So even fully laden, its speed remains unaffected. Interesting.

I’ll add that as a curiosity. Makes calculating top speed a breeze. Lol

That’s a very interesting weight to thrust ratio.

Hi there people... I still haven't got around to flying a Chieftain... Anyone like to chip in with some juicy details...

I haven't tried the ship yet, but it has the joint highest number of military slots among medium ships, on par with the Gunship ( 3x C4 slots)

It's something, right ?

Great thread by the way, that's a very good idea!

Edit : i'll add the rest of my observations while I'm at it.

Hauler

+ due to the low hull mass, can take full advantage of 2A Enhanced thrusters, even when fully loaded on fuel and cargo. Very usefull to run away from NPCs, even with a shieldless trading build (USE WITH CAUTION) http://www.edshipyard.com/#/L=B0V0,,,9p30A4O0AJZ0AZA0AnE0B0s0BGU0BX_0,,05U005U003w002M0

Federal Dropship

+ heaviest hull of any medium ship, on par with the Gunship. Makes it effective at ramming, and it is less sensitive to "trajectory disruption" attacks
+ the narrow hull gives the ship a great weapon convergence, well suited for full fixed-weapon loadouts (the same can be said for FAS and FGS)

A couple of updates are needed to reflect the T9 getting an additional size 8 slot in 3.0, it is no longer accurate to say that only the Cutter has two size 8 slots.

Probably also worth mentioning that the T9 has the highest cargo capacity of any non-rank-locked ship, very close behind the Cutter now.

Keelback: not just the cheapest ship with SLF, but also the only non-rank-locked medium-sized one. All other available-to-all SLF ships are large.

Another + that should be added to the Keelback is that it's insanely heat resiliant. Mine isn't even modded to be heat efficient but I can still easily circle as close to the sun as I want while fuelscooping with the maximum rate at full throttle without the heat ever rising above 65%.

Take a +1, really great thread/OP :)

My only comment would be the Cutter is no longer the only ship with 2x C8 slots since the T9 got it's upgrade.

Edit:
I'd also perhaps mention that the Adder is the cheapest ship to fit a class 2 hardpoint

Not sure how to phrase this in terms of the OP but one of the most important things about the Krait is how sensitive it is to heat management.
Build one right and you won't even know what people are complaining about.
Over-do the PP overcharging or the high-energy weapons, however, and heat will become the bane of your existence.

What else?

Well, the ship's design means it's super-easy to scoop cargo, including from planet surfaces.

On a (vaguely) related note, the combination of hardpoints, armour/shields, agility, jump-range and slots means it's pretty-much the ultimate scavenger ship IMO.
You can build one with decent weapons, stick a collector controller, an SRV and a 0A wake-scanner on it and you've got one ship that can jump all over the galaxy, farm USSs, Famine dist' sites, crash sites and CNB's for mat's.

More mundanely, I believe the dev's have officially stated that it's a ship which the authorities will pay little attention to at stations/outposts so it's probably a good choice for smuggling.

Cheers... I will add the heat management and the scooping.

Scavenger... Hmm... You've given me an idea to create a ship role thread...

Asp Scout is the only 2 small 2 medium hardpoint ship with a class 4 PD. Not sure if this is list worthy, but it only has one nice thing being said about it and I felt sorry for it.

Cheers, Vedmo.

Unfortunately same as the Viper MK 4 which is a small ship... T_T

The poor, poor Asp Scout...
Still irredeemable.
:)

Krait: best gun visibility? (and most gaffa tape used :p)

LOL...
True about the epic gun visibility...
Gaffa tape.. LOL...

Found a really nice stat for the Krait...

Apparently the Krait is the fastest SLF capable ship...

Can anyone confirm (is that engineered or vanilla or both?)
This is pretty epic. It means that it has a good chance or running away from a fight with any other SLF capable ship..

Cutter can boost to 540 with an SLF bay.
Krait can boost to 557with an SLF bay.

Krait looses speed fairly rapidly, so the average speed with spammed boosting is probably about the same. The Krait can definitely change directions faster though.
