Wish I Could Dock

Bought and paid for the original "Elite" way back in the last century, game was terrific. So when the modern version came out. I paid 100 English pounds plus another 35 pounds for it. Alas! after hours and hours of attempting to to dock my ship I think I fluked it just 4 times and as for docking on the pad ..... NEVER. Frustration finally won and I gave up playing. After all its meant to be enjoyable right?
Then along comes the April 23 patch which I miss-read as being easier for beginners so I forked out A$84.95 and again bought the damn game. Again alas no simplification to the space-station entry or docking. The improvements only apply to players who have already mastered the docking procedure.
I would like to suggest that on purchasing "Elite" there is a further option to further purchase a docking computer for say A$20 dollars. I will now go do battle to retrieve my A$84.95. 👽

I do not want to appear insensitive, but I really do not get these docking problems. If you have some special disabilities, then ignore this remark.

If you watch a few youtube videos by the many helpful fellow cmdrs and do the tutorial missions then docking should be no problem.
I could dock right from the get go and I am no space jockey myself:). It felt immediately natural to me.

I do not know what you use to control your ship. I do use HOTAS.
When in the FREE Sidewinder you have no reason to hold back. Don't be afraid and make as many mistakes as you want.

The improvements only apply to players who have already mastered the docking procedure.
Others already explained that this is nonsense. The new features are installed in every noob ship right from the get go.

As for the money you dished out... that is completely unnecessary. There are so many sales these days. I just looked around a bit. Even without special sales I can find Elite for 9.95 and Horizons for no more than 15 bucks. The Deluxe edition for PC can be found for 35 bucks.

The advanced docking computer, which comes standard on all new ships, will dock and launch for you. When you go into the game, it literally says there "AutoLaunch", and when you try to dock it says "Throttle down to autodock" ..

Why would you want to spend 20AUD on a feature that is already in the game and comes free with a new ship?

This honestly just feels like a troll post.

If you'd already bought the game for £100, surely that was beta or lifetime pass? Why did you buy it again just because a patch came out (or am I misunderstanding)?

Anyway, there is a docking tutorial, and a docking computer. Both should help. :)

😲

I never understood why docking is so difficult for some players. Can you elaborate why you can't dock? Isn't it just fly to the indicated pad, get slower and then apply a little downward trust?
You have all six axis bound to some keys, have you?

I bet the combined knowledge of the forums members could help pilots to master docking. Maybe we should start a docking school (thread).

(OK, using the docking computer is seriously cool, especially in a drifty ship, but docking manually is manageable with some training)
You can even slam the ship into the pad. You have some shield and hull to protect you. I dock at high speed when I am flying a small ship. Sometimes I just skid into the final locking position.

It's either a troll post, or the OP is... intelligent in a very specific way.

weird thing is docking was way harder in the original and the docking computer has been in the game since day 1.

When I finally bought my Cutter, I was really really worried about docking, until I docked.

I guess 900+ hours and never having owned a DC helps a lot, but it's one of my everyday "Yay!" moments when it all goes exactly as I envisaged it and I land accurately on the pad having passed the mailslot in a hurry. The travelling in between, it's just not as fun as the docking bit.

As others have mentioned, maybe your bindings are off somehow, or maybe you got Flight Assist off - in which case it's not surprising you can't dock... I still can't dock or make any kind of precision moves with FA off because it's really different.

Hope you figure it out because Elite has a lot to offer!
