With the new Interstellar Initiative even FDev is resorting to external tools! AKA Bridging the Fail

Relax folks.
It's just a vote for which system this ferry with use, and we get to decide it.

The actual in game stuff probably isn't ready to launch yet, so they're probably just trying to tick things over on here for the time being.

that's my point. if it's not ready don't start rolling it out! We have a reasonably-well working CG mechanism....maybe just set it up like a Dev-run CG instead of requiring out-of-game participation on something that's ultimately inconsequential and highlights a glaring problem in the game. Why not just pick a location (like they did with the SagA* station...cause who cares which procedurally generated system near SagA* you put the station in) and run an ingame CG?

They have 300 developers. Sadly only 100 is dedicated to ED, so you're right.

so they have currently 5 projects, inckuding 2 new ones in the works a total of 300 developers, and 1/3 of the are still working on their first property??

it surely doesn't take 100 developers to create ugly paint jobs, set up polls on a forum, and write that drivel that passes as "game content" on Galnet.

If you gave FDev a gun they would point it at their foot and pull the trigger.
Bugs aside.
Gnosis debacle.
No Ice Planet Landings.
No Fleet Carriers.
Big Update 2019 (cancelled).
Big update LATE 2020...
April 2019 BIG NEW CG's.
It's an online poll and you'll have to wait for the actual CG to start.
For your Gods sake, hire a decent PR team.

Surely anybody with an iota of foresight could have seen the disapointment coming with this implementation?
Who made this decision and why?
Moreover have they learned anything from it for future?
When will Fdev give us the tools first and direct us to the job second? At the moment it's very much 'oh you want to build sand castles? That's nice. Here's the sand pit. No we don't have buckets and spades and the sand will be delivered on Thursday'
Someone at Fdev needs to take a look at their decision making processes and how those processes are backed up with resources and man power in order to deliver.
I feel bad for the likes of Will who's the public face of all of this and has to present himself as hyped for all of this stuff knowing that there'll be a lot of hot tongue and cold shoulder three meals a day for a week when these under developed things are put to the players.

A voting mechanism in game would mean you have to built, test and distribute it to (potentially) 2 mil game installations, while a central voting mech on the forums is updated in erm... minutes? (sry Brett).

Anywho, I can understand, for something as new as this and to see how thing fair, that they do it the way they do. I can also imagine, that if this is indeed the way forward, that it will be replaced with a ingame version.

Either way, are external tools a bad thing?
On the other hand, a ingame voting system reaches all players. A forum based system reaches what? 1% of the players? 10%? 20%? Surely not 100%.

Like i said in the other thread, i'll reserve judgement until i see how it all unfolds, but the start isn't promising in my eyes.

I hope they also use this opportunity to give PvPers something special to do as well, since they are crying out for content which allows them to utilize their skills. For example, one week could have the results decided by PvP kills within a certain system. 1 kill = 1 vote. Have the result have some sort of significant outcome.

What about people who read forum but dont play game anymore? I am that kind of player, it doesnt matter to me where this ferry goes or how much it cost (could be 10 bilion iron).

Should I be allowed to vote?

Wahey! Vote on the forum not even in the 'game'.

It's not exactly yer exiting, emergent gameplay, is it?

Thorough confused as to why FD think this is a 'good thing'. Personally, I don't care in the least where this mega-ship flies to.

Do most players?

Can't help feeling an in-game voting mechanic would be good to have at some point. Still, I guess not quiet there yet hey. They could let us 'vote' via CG deliveries or something but that would be cumbersome and exclude anyone out exploring.

One thing at a time I guess, FD are feeling this out too and it is kinda nice to promote the forums

As you've probably seen the firsf Interstellar Initiative is upon us and the goal is to VOTE VIA THE FLITE DANGEROUS FORUM!

Even FDev is now resorting to external tools to make the game playable.

The vote itself is almost completely inconsequential as it will determine which of several systems that are close together will host a station for a ferry to Guardian sites.

It is also unclear why such a ferry would be necessary as the distance isn't that far and only serves to highlight that access to certain ingame items have been locked behind auch a grindwall amd convoluted gameplay that they had to create a bypass so new players could access Guardian content.

Of course my cynical side thinks that this is just FDev putting the cart before the horse and the guardian stuff is about to feature prominently in upcoming content....like grinding guardian materials to synthesize reloads for new guardian weapons....establishing a new time-sink currency.

If you're going to do an ingame ferry, why not Colonia?

....but most importantly if you're going to add a replacement for CGs into the game, why not....ya know....put it IN THE GAME?

is Elite turning into a "choose your own adventure" book where everyone votes on the forum and then reads about it in Galnet?
For me, the guardian thing wasn't too far at all. In fact going out there was most of the fun. I've been out there two or three times and still haven't gone through the steps required to unlock anything. There's just too much arcade level gameplay going on there and I just couldn't bring myself to do it. That little sister Planet there so has some pretty cool materials on it.

I wouldn't mind having to go around the planet to different sites and collect materials but that timer and all of that nonsense was a put off to me. I had hoped for something a bit more immersive regarding the Guardians. It's almost like you have two different groups of people working on this, one of them is very involved in spaceflight and immersion and the other is watching Ultraman.

They even managed to break CQC with the last update, and it's no even a part of the update.

And where is the negative stuff you promised with the thread's name? Oh, I see, it's just that complainodrama thing again that's going around on the internet...
complainodrama. Like it, I'm nicking that. Never any shortage of potential uses around here.
