With the new Interstellar Initiative even FDev is resorting to external tools! AKA Bridging the Fail

Can't help feeling an in-game voting mechanic would be good to have at some point. Still, I guess not quiet there yet hey. They could let us 'vote' via CG deliveries or something but that would be cumbersome and exclude anyone out exploring.

One thing at a time I guess, FD are feeling this out too and it is kinda nice to promote the forums

As I have said a few times already, the game does have a nice point and click multi option voting system in Power Play already, and has had for quite some time.

Hopefully they can make use of that at somepoint then. I guess migrating that over for a different use might take more effort than we'd expect if it is very heavily tied in with the power play systems - still, possibly easier to disentangle and reuse than completely reimplement. Maybe.

Guess we'll find out in time.

I am happy that they start this with a forum poll. Think about it for a moment. A lot of my ships are currently unflyable, because of the unpredictable behaviour of power priorities. When I deploy hardpoints, I can never be sure if I'm now combat ready or get greeted with shields down, oxygen counting down.

I'd rather have the actual ingame event not start until the emergency patch is here.

A voting mechanism in game would mean you have to built, test and distribute it to (potentially) 2 mil game installations, while a central voting mech on the forums is updated in erm... minutes? (sry Brett).

Anywho, I can understand, for something as new as this and to see how thing fair, that they do it the way they do. I can also imagine, that if this is indeed the way forward, that it will be replaced with a ingame version.

Either way, are external tools a bad thing?

If I recall correctly

When there was a community vote on where to build the Unity Star Port, there were four potential systems nominated by FDev and players could vote by turning in the scan data for the system they wanted to win, winning system being the one the most people turned in the data for.

When I saw the Interstellar Initiative post, I thought the voting would be similar, but then thought, well if they are building a ferry as the distance might be a barrier, then expecting people to make the trip to vote would be a bad idea.

4 Concurrent CGs would be lambasted as grind, and the winner would be the one that looked like it would pay the most.

So if it was to be just a simple vote, why not use the forum, if they can use the in game news and server broadcasts to "in character" have Corporate Reps encourage Cmdrs to vote, why not

I agree that it should be happening in-game, otherwise why have a game at all?

As for why not Colonia? Who wants to visit that Player Faction indulging cesspit? For the players that don't give a damn about player factions that place represents everything wrong with the focus of the game. :p

And yeah, Void Opals and one day Anacondas are the reason why people think 700LY is too much work. I had a guy on the Galactic Academy complain that 400LY to Maia for Engineers was too much work! But keep on keeping on FD!

Well actually, I'm quite upset, you see, a large part of the player base is now effectively placed behind a forum wall. Only a small minority of privileged players are even here, and the rest of the unruly mob are just playjng the game in naive blissful ignorance.
So much for diversity and inclusion...

Or is it another of FDs plans to force people to play FDs way and not their own way and expose people needlessly to forum hate and forum pvp...?
Good grief... More fish in the barrel for forum character griefing.
There goes my rainbow.

👏👏👏👏👏
We salute you!
Thanks.
I may have been more prescient than I thought: we do have ferries but they only move once a week on the server tick.

I imagine this is why we don't have fleet carriers. Can't get the ships on board the carrier to maintain the same instance as the carrier so you end up with a load of ships floating in space or just disapearing.

I am wondering if the whole make a ferry permanent is a smoke screen for something else. I wonder if; we all think this is why we are doing it, and then half way through something happens at the chosen site.

or something appears there

something which opens mystery and new thargoid or guardian stuff. and ultimately a new weapon.

the more I think about it, fdev are not going to go too all this trouble to add a megaship which travels to a guardian site.... Will F, did say things will turn part way through as other factions will try to do something

Ebbrell: at this stage I'm not getting my hopes up.
If Fdev have cooked up something interesting then great but on current evidence I'll not hold my breath.
How this means we'll acquire Guardian stuff quicker I have no idea.

Don't go there. Last time people made up an imaginary scenario and then got salty when it didn't eventuate....

Formidine Rift…

If we are lucky it won't be just a standard Anaconda…

Are we going to get ferry from Sol to Shinrarta? I am to lazy to do few jumps in my 70Ly anaconda. What about other systems? After we get space legs are we going to wait in que at the station to buy a ticket or it will be email to someone in FD? Sounds like another great mystery.

If this whole thing wouldn't smell too much like the Gnosis event (not about the Thargoid attacks, that was fine. But it never reached the Cone sector which was the true bummer) I probably would vote. But so I have no trust that it probably wouldn't be just another huge waste of time.
Also, multistage CGs are still CGs and as such totally unappealing to me - or convince me that I'm wrong and it's something fundamentally different now.
FD has said they don't want to waste our time. Personally, I think they left out a "but" or five in that statement, but take it at face value if you like.

Voting would have taken less time than this post you just typed...
