Bind keys for "Set Speed To..." 0%, 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% (I like the keys: ` 1 2 3 4) under Flight Throttle options.

Approach planets, USSs, RESs, etc... at 100% until the clock strikes 8 seconds to impact. Downshift to 75% Power. You'll glide right in 99% of the time with no overshoot issues.

Cheers!

If you start feeling tired, plan an early docking... hours travel faster than Light ( just came home from work.. been up 30 hours now )

System authority vessels will swarm you for a mere 300cr.
Dont accidentally earn a "Wanted" tag in their presence. If you do, run like hell and pay the fine at the nearest station.

The fun way is the best way to attain your goal. No need to grind the most paying way if you want to get to a particular amount of cash. Do what you want until you get there. Enjoy your time.

When exploring, and you've explored some of the planets, if your next closest target is back behind you going close to the sun, ignore it. Go for the next one, then that first one. Flying close to the sun means you slow down loads in supercruise.

In essence : don't go closer to big gravitational objects than you need to, because it will slow you down.

If you do want to use a docking computer, remember to re-balance your power distribution once you're docked! Nothing is worse than getting into a fight with no recharge on your weapons.

If you're trading, watch out for other players (hollow marker) lining up on your 6, they're probably a pirate. If you see this happening do an emergency low wake stop (double tap frameshift key, try and slow down a bit first to reduce hull damage). When in normal space boost away from your exit point so they can't jump in next to you. Wait a few mins before going back into super-cruise.

The little white bar in the top right is a search bar. Theres a bigger one called google that works too.
If you want to be refined you can also use the Search Forum/Subforum/Thread click down menu in the top right too.

My point:
Search engines/bars exist, please use them but do ask honest questions because the forums are here to help. We just may get a tad peeved at the folks who ask a question thats already been asked 10 minutes ago :)

I know this is a forum one and not a game one but to quote Milton Jones: "Somebody has to tell em!".

Be very careful with flight assist on/off in asteroid belts (and in general). You're ship will continue to fly in the direction you've flown before deactivating flight assist. So, even when not looking at an asteroid it's quite possible to meet him (not good)
Please don't ask me. Learn how flight assist works.

Don't get me wrong, the soundtrack is amazing. But at some point you might want to mute the in-game music (all of it) and find yourself some podcasts or radio stations to listen to. Play with volumes until it kinda sounds like your on-board audio system for max immersion.

once you made your way to a ship with a bit more internal compartments, get a docking computer just for the heck of it... you can sell it afterwards [its cheap anyways] but boy [girl] this thing makes one smile, even if one enjoys manual landings [like i do]
