Don't worry about making a profit. Just have fun and the credits will start to roll in. Not as quickly, perhaps, but you will enjoy yourself a lot more. I sat in a cobra for three months, never regretted it. Will probably do the same with my brand new Asp.

Just reading 7 pages of this and already got a good bit of advice about flying combat in general. Remember the trick Maverick used in Top Gun to evade 1 of the MiG 28's? You know..."I'm gonna hit the brakes and he'll fly right by!" In Elite: Dangerous, that flying trick will always backfire and just get you shot down faster! This is because that trick only works with flying combat that involves gravity. There you have it. Out!

when exploring choose your planets carefully, high metal content planets are easy ways of boosting your creds but if they're small & far apart it takes too long & you may have found something far more interesting in another system by the time it takes to detail surface scan a load of 0.1 (earth size) rocks. Also slow down well before your dss starts scanning as the closer you are to the planet when it finishes limits your acceleration away after. Read nutters guide to exploring before you're first foray.. excellent stuff, thank you vey much to all the peeps that contributed to it.

Give yourself plenty of time to complete a mission... if the mission time is less than an hour, get to it asap. I've had a few times where the mission would time-out fail while I'm landing at the target station.

Don't do something that's boring , do something you enjoy for the sake of doing it. If you are unhappy, do something different. It's just a game.
