"working on something secret for PC and Mac"

Its going to be something small not huge.

I think its going to be unlocking some locked areas of space and maybe intelligent aliens. Thats at most i think.

Maybe by some slim chance walking around inside ships and adding NPCs.

FD doesnt have a large dev team like star citizen has. So dont expect anything better then what star citizen has or is getting. FD will be i would guess at least a year or 2 behind star citizen.

The biggest announcement they could make would be that all along they have been secretly workng on making the game that was described during the kickstarter and DDF process.
That would be wonderful. That was a great game.

They never gave out a time frame for the expansions. So dont expect to much. I was excited about E3 and that sucked. So i dont expect anything huge from this Dev team anymore.

Which is why Elite is a game people are actually buying and playing on multiple platforms, whereas Star Citizen is... Erm... Well, you can pay money to buy pretty ships you can't even fly yet...

I wouldn't expect any major expansions for at least a year. I was thinking more along the lines of core features of the initial release. Hopefully they are in the pipeline but for some reason have yet to be announced.

We need more meaningful/interesting things to do in the current game IMHO before throwing in curve balls with alien races.

Alien races can only be added once, so the game needs to be in a solid position before then to make the most of it.

Have to agree.
This community is very much willing to inflate every fracture of words FD tosses in. Wishful thinking for the very reason of ED leaving a lot to be desired.
What I expect is another injection to the "mind-game" we have here which would be awesome if it worked properly or other elements asked for very long now would work and support the idea.
The "can't really make any benefit of a feature because another two are broken"-kind of phenomenon is haunting ED from the beginning. We may have another one of this. FD can prove me wrong though, a lot of us are waiting for that!

There is also some "smaller" stuff that could make the galaxy more "lively" that does not require implementing new features. Small things like hearing varied human voice responses after you request docking, more different kinds of station interiors and exteriors, etc.

Star Citizen isn't even a game yet. You do realise that? Yet it's FDev who've let you down? It's FDev who haven't given you 'what SC has'? #baffled

Not wishing to derail the thread, but

I can only answer for myself, obviously.

Overall, I guess I wanted PP to fit. I wanted it to work with and through existing structures, and in an organic way. Not with things like a turn-based weekly pseudo-vote!

Here's one example of how existing structures could have been used by PowerPlay, rather than code a clunky overlay on top of everything we had previously...

The galaxy background sum runs tens of thousands (more?) of populated systems, with hundreds of thousands of minor factions. Those minor factions already expand, go to war, vote in elections, fall into crisis, etc. So why go and implement a separate "PP Command Capital" mechanism to drive expansion and defence? Why do it all from the top down?

Why not tweak the minor factions themselves to have Power allegiance? Replace "Major faction allegiance" with Power style allegiance? It would still boil down to a case of Independent, Federation, Empire at a high level. But if you look closer, you'll see that Federation-aligned XYZ System is actually because the minor faction in charge declares its allegiance to Hudson.

Then, if you want to support a Power, you get involved with grass-roots support on a system by system basis, via Minor Factions. Sure, add top-down support for minor factions in PP. Fortify them, undermine them, whatever. But have it actually acknowledge the existence and importance of Minor Factions, and have PP-related actions affect them in some way. THEN have Minor Faction rise and fall affect Power control or exploitation of a system.

That's probably getting into more detail than it should have, and doesn't really answer the one-line question well, lol. So, here's a list of...

Basic Things I Would Have Preferred PowerPlay to Be

Something that integrated cleanly with the existing Background Simulation.

In PP, Minor Faction influence counts for nothing when it comes to systems' relationships with Powers.

In PP, Minor/Major Faction reputation counts for nothing when it comes to pilots' relationships with Powers.

Heck, overall system government and allegiance counts for nothing when it comes to PowerPlay. We can have Empire-allied systems run as President Hudson's personal fiefdoms, and Federation-allied systems run as Imperial Princess playgrounds. Because it's a totally separate layer, absent of any attempt at integration... and therefore lacking in cohesion.

Something that integrated cleanly with the existing legal jurisdiction system.

In an Empire-allegiance system with Hudson's name stamped on it, Hudson cronies can attack an Earl of the Empire without penalty, if they are pledged to a rival Imperial Power. Empire Internal Security ships are suddenly impotent and corrupted by the Hudson Power, and do nothing. The entire legal system is suddenly impotent and corrupted, it seems. Hudson agents don't go WANTED for attacking a CLEAN ship, if that ship is piloted by someone who works for an Imperial Power. In an Imperial system.

Not a turn-based thing.

I can't believe I even had to say that. Did FD really go, "Well, nobody explicitly said a turn-based add-on would be downright bizarre, so let's go with that!"? Did it not ring alarm bells?

Powers that acted like interstellar powers, not like "Federation's Got Talent 3301".

How can these alpha-personality Power figures be believable in terms of territorial ambition, when they make no strategic decisions themselves, but simply allow anyone who "pledges allegiance" to tell them what to do? Let them choose awful systems that provide nothing, but cost the Power dearly... and act on that?

Here's Denton Patreus in his weekly strategy meeting...

http://www.galnet.fr/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/Denton-Patreus-portrait-340x260.jpg

Okay, let's see what my valued team have cooked up for me this week!

...Whaaaaat?

Hmm. That's not the system I would have chosen, but I guess my hands are tied here! This is a weekly-vote democracy, after all. Just like all my opponents' operations, too. Weird.

Looks like we're directing 50% of our resources this week towards Ponyville McNeighNeigh Ceti again!

So what if it's an obvious disaster that will shred my galactic credit rating?

I do love chairing these weekly meetings. Have we got those peanut M&Ms today?

I really like those.

Holy crap, that explains exactly what I was hoping for from Powerplay and why I'm so disappointed with it. Frontier, give this man a job!

Whatever super-secret thing they're working on, I suspect will be just as disappointing when it's unveiled

Except that the playable parts in both games when compared, many think ED has done more.

It clearly wont be that, there will be bug fixes but there is obviously something considerably larger than what you have listed there.
.
Imagine the forum melt down, they promised us a feature and it turned out to be some bug fixes.
.
This game needs some content, I suppose this game is like that ex you had with a great rack but who was a total bore, it could have been so great if she just wasn't a bore, they can just see the potential. Like those steam comments of games with over 200hrs played then a negative review and your like guys you got your tenner out of the game calm down man.

I also said "reinforcing the core features". While I would be OK with extra content it is clearly not the point at that stage of the game. It's like being in a restaurant with uncooked meat and having the waiter telling you "oh sure, let me bring you some fries and drinks". The core of the game itself is not fully cooked, let's have it finally perfected and then go for more content. I would love to see:
- better smuggling system, especially regarding the black market;
- more events/scenarios/scripts during missions;
- sharing missions or co-op missions (beyond wing which is really the minimum right now);
- #add other features improving already existing systems#.

So yeah no need to reinvent the wheel, a lot of improvements can be way better than new content.

All of us can confirm that one. Michael has said it multiple times, and we have seen fixes for some causes of stuttering in multiple release notes.

Well I got stuttering fixed during PP Beta, and back again on public release :(

Persistent NPC contacts + NPC Human/Robotic crew and NPC Wingmen is top of my list.

That would be an interesting addition. If Traders could employ (& outfit) an NPC Wingman, it would provide some safety for trading.

Consider then simply commands to:-
- Protect this.
- Attack that.

Now finally add in better tiered missions, so you have for example convoy defense and convoy attack missions? Now your NPC wingman becomes an interesting gameplay mechanic. Do you tell them to defend an important ship in the convoy, or help with your target? etc etc...

However, I don't think we'll see NPC wingman simply because of PvP unbalancing ?

Rather ironically, development of the XB1 version has helped to identify some of the causes.

Good to hear that :) There are still a lot of people thinking XBO is just a pain to the PC version, whereas they both versions can actually be beneficial to each other.
