Why do people use this as a defense? This game was kickstarted, they asked for the amount needed to complete the game that was detailed on the kickstarter. If FD can't provide what they promised with the money they had from the kickstarter then that was their mistake. If they wanted to keep moving the goalposts during development, then they should never have used Kickstarter.
The KS was used to gauge interest, and if successful, contribute to the funds required to produce the base game (which I think was £8 million, but I don't recall where I got that figure, so I may be wrong on this point).
Further development requires further funds.
