"working on something secret for PC and Mac"

Trouble is this is how FD's E3 and PP announcements were perceived setting them up for the fall.
Saying something will be cool while not saying what it is has potential to lead to another fall.
Even if Kerrash says cool stuff is coming it is subjective and liable to be viewed in a totally different way by others. He also admits he has no idea what will happen when so doesn't really know the FD plan but has just seen some cool work in progress they may or may not have been viewed in context.
PP is a case in point, FD told us how really cool it was going to be but many people ended feeling let down and in turn made the E3 thing even worse, probably why FD keep their mouth's shut.

So what if people might feel that way about certain aspects, while others are just fine with them, maybe even think they are great.

Does any of that justify jumping down Kerrash throat and telling him to "shut up"?

He can't help if others take very...no wait...extremely vague statements like "SQEEEE" the wrong way. I can honestly say that yes, I thought there could potentially be something more shown at E3 and yes, I thought his SQEEE might be releated to that. I even commented on his tweet with "PLANETARY LANDINGS!!!!!" (half joking, half hoping). But you know what? Telling him to "shut up" because I thought that meant something else never even crossed my mind. If people feel let down because something they speculated about didn't materialize then that is their problem.

Free speech and all...

Well excuse me if I'm missing the blinkin' obvious but Kerrash being excited about the game seems to be pretty much what his show has been about for the past year and a half.

I really can't see how it would work any other way.

"Welcome to your community Elite show. Nothing is happening and all of you refuse to acknowledge the existential pointlessness of your existence. This game fails to provide you with the necessary escapism you require to avoid your dull pathetic lives. Watch me trade...trade...trade...trade.. Next week more trading"

He gets to see some stuff Frontier are working on and says he's excited about it and that's a terrible terrible thing because his excitement for something wasn't shared by you.

Isn't that just "Stop liking what I don't like".

Stop making me too excited about things I might not be excited about.

Kerrash is indeed known for his excitement and love for ED and kudos to him for it, but as an ambassador, which lends some weight to his comments, he really should comment on the game we have not the game he perceives we will get. Without anyone else being able to compare notes his comments are subjective and the way he sees these unknown things may not be what the community sees on it's release which in turn could actually do more harm than good.

I agree, I fail to see why people got all heated over his excitement, much of which was probably due to the coming trip being sort of like xmas :)
It is the comments since E3 in which he hints at 'exciting' things but can give no facts, this is not helpful and is possibly harmful to the game when future patches land. I don't think anyone is telling him to shut up just be a little less 'I have a secret and I can't tell', I don't think it helps at all

I totally don't.

People can't complain about Kerrash saying something like that when so many at the same time begs him to "spill the beans". Considering how up in arms some are here on the forum about "the direction of the game" can you really blame him? Put yourself in his shoes...you see people complaining about this or that feature and how things "never going to happen" while you yourself might know for a fact that these very things most certainly WILL happen even if you don't have an exact date when that will take place. Don't you think you would like to try to calm people down by saying something like that? I'm pretty sure you would...

I have to disagree. Kerrashis bound by an NDA (as he stated), just like FDEV´s, I strongly assume moderators and other ambassadors. They can´t say anything otherwise they are in a world that hurts. He can´t spill the beans so to say. He can´t say anything. Kerrash said "I saw some awesome stuff when I was there". He wouldn´t be a good ambassador if he wouldn´t say so. Same thing we heard from others in the PB,SB and even Gamma. Commanders stated there was the mythical ´vertical slice´. We were testing only parts, there would be so so much more for the release. FD was clever enough not to comment on that. Then we went live, no mythical vertical slice. YES FD is working hard on the game, don´t deny that. Kerrash also said "Nothing in the DDF has been de-scoped as a possible feature, things have just been prioritized in an order that makes sense. There is no point implementing a feature until all the prerequisite features are in place. As my 5yr old likes to say: "Patience is a virtue". Possible feature, what does that say? Nothing in my book. FD has stated they won´t provide a road map, not even a general one. So basically we don´t know anything. If Michael Brookes would state what Kerrash said it would be official news and mean something. But MB keeps silent... Kerrash can´t say anything (NDA), just trying to cheers us up? Well that has been done before duringPB/SB/Gamma, what did it bring us? I totally understand what kerrash is trying to accomplish but is it meaningfull?

I very rarely disagree with you, Tinman, but I really cannot agree with you here. :) Sure, if I had begged him to say stuff, and then said that, then I would deserve condemnation. But I should not be condemned for pointing out the obvious because others have been begging him to break his NDA. If you want to criticise a position, then criticise putting him under undue pressure. It should have been obvious to everyone that he would have been bound by the FD stance on releasing information, and we should not be putting him under unfair pressure.

What I might want to say, if I were in his position is irrelevant, since I'm not. I note that Sandro, Michael, and all seem to be able to toe the corporate line without feeling the need to drop hints. Of course, I disagree with the corporate line, but if you sign up (either as a dev, or as an ambassador), then you know the rules you are supposed to play by.

Well part of me thinks that we can all manage our own expectations like the grown ups we are while still allowing ourselves some level of childish excitement around a game series most of us really wanted to be excited about again for the past 20 years.

Hey, maybe he should put a warning at the bottom of the screen

"WARNING: Squee level may not be representative of final product"

I think FD understood their mistakes.
No Man's sky is about to release and in ED you're still on empty space and too much rules.

if it's not planets landing ED will be a useless game when NMS is out.

I dont think no mans sky is that great. The graphics look very bad. I for one will stick with ED unless nothing better happens to it when SC is fully launched.

True, but that doesn't mean he is lying or doesn't mean it.

Oh, and moderators haven't signed any NDA as far as I know. Unless maybe if they have been ambassadors.

Same thing we heard from others in the PB,SB and even Gamma. Commanders stated there was the mythical ´vertical slice´. We were testing only parts, there would be so so much more for the release.

I don't think any of these Commanders ever went to FD offices. They were just speculating. Kerrash on the other hand have been there and seen things. Rather big difference.

Possible feature, what does that say? Nothing in my book. FD has stated they won´t provide a road map, not even a general one. So basically we don´t know anything.

It says that nothing is of the table...did you miss all the threads lately on how "they are going in the wrong direction" or how "the DDA proposals will never ever happen". ;)

I totally understand what kerrash is trying to accomplish but is it meaningfull?

Yes.

Especially when he slips up and manage to confirm that certain features that "never ever going to happen" is "coming soon" (Tier 2 NPCs). :p

Do you understand when you say "planetary landing" how this is like saying "s" instead of "supercalifragilisticexpialidocious"? :)

People brandish the term around like some holy grail, or magic alixir as if it's the answer to any/all problems in ED.

As I've asked countless times before... You fly down to your beautifully rendered planet... Land... And then you __________ <----- Insert a huge list of game play to make this worth while.

The current game play in ED is too thin already. The last thing we need is "thin planetary landings added." We need the existing stuff improved/enhanced to what it so easily could/should be first (IMHO).

I and Tinman and others have all told players like yourself, may times, the things that eventually could come with planet landings. And yes (IMHO), it is a 'holy grail' for this game.

sandro, mb and david have slight different job descriptions to an ambassador don't you think? how often have these guys been lauded, how often has kerrash been at FDEV PR events? you think that might be coincidence?

seriously, how about you better their/his effort and positive influence on the game and community AT LARGE. as friend alien put so succinctly "put up or shut up!"

this smacks sooooo badly of just wanting to cause damage & ruckus. what could you possible want to accomplish? :(

Theory confirmed?

Maybe....

maybe not. But one can hope!

Planetary landing is far in the future
Before that you need to add walking in ships and stations (way smaller than a planet)
Then you need to add the equivalent of quests or just basic interactions with either NPCs and players ie being able to kill or rob someone
How does it work? Is there also police on stations? Are there thugs there? Can you go into another docked ship and steal things? Can you steal another ship?

I mean there are a massive load of options that immediately are needed to be implemented as soon as you are actually walking somewhere and want to create a living universe
So I doubt very much this is actually in the works as a priority because this would make ED become an MMO with quests and sandbox features which is awesome but look at the amount of work this would require for a game that is only a one time cost. These mmo features need to be paid by loads of revenues and or ingame sales. I don t see this happening even if I would sell a first born to be able to take EVE's market, ED's game and add WOW's quest system and freedom

Well remember Monsoon; most of us believe from DB's statements, planet landings will be 'phased'; thus we could expect landings on rocky bodies, without atmospheres first, and to keep within the 'Kickstarter' expansion parameters, by the end of this year. As far as appropriate content on airless rocky bodies; -Inflatable Mining rigs. Beyond that pure guesswork.

Perhaps support for a friend...

Just want to point out that they have released just as many updates (at the same times) as last year.

Alpha 1 = First release
Alpha 2 = ED 1.1
Alpha 3 = ED 1.2
Alpha 4 / Premium Beta 1 (same build) = ED 1.3
Premium Beta 2 = the upcoming CQC for XBox
Beta 1 (end of May, beginning of August) = We don't know yet, probably 1.4.
What does CQC means and when is that coming to Xbox?

I understand some of us don't like PP or XBO port or CQC or anything that doesn't scratch your itch regarding ED. But please, can we stop talk in overgeneralizing terms? Even on this echo chamber it's not universal truth.

Also Kerrash gets excited....and that's a BAD thing? Ok, his excitement doesn't resonate with yours...that's a problem how? I wasn't that excited to discover CQC, but I am not deny that it can be very appealing to lot of new comers. I can *see* Kerrash being a bit hyped about it. Especially as he has played that thing before E3.

OK, if you don't trust FD, fine. But why attack Kerrash in this case? He tells what he knows and what he can tell. Sometimes he misreads us and sometimes we misread him. Also if trusting devs or holding on the game is so big burden, why not take a break? I have restarted to play ED just very recently, and break really revitalized my excitement for game itself. Or maybe it won't happen - in that case it will be bittersweet but peaceful goodbye.

<hack n slash quote cut out>

For the record, all moderators are required to sign an NDA before being allowed to be on the moderation team. The NDA here for the moderators mainly covers user privacy, any pre-release content, and other tidbits of information that we may throw at them*.

* Level of squee may be related.

Close Quarter Combat

Basically "Deathmatch", "Capture the flag" and similar modes. The first half of this video gives you the idea of what it is.

It's going to arrive in the Preview program soon. Was originally planned to be playable on the showfloor on E3, but it wasn't quite ready at that time. They have said it will come in July. Based on the interviews I've seen I would guess the first half of the month.

Thanks, I don't see the problem with this.

Doing this, we (Xbox One users) will test it before it goes to PC players, and I assume that Microsoft has probably gave them a lot of money so it only makes things better.

The more money FD gets the better the game will be, and Microsoft is known for big payouts
