would you pay a subscription for ED?

God, Stop trying to inject WOW into this game. No sub's, you want subs go play EVE. But please take that crap somewhere else.

no, i already paid 75$ for the game there is no reason for me to keep paying every month which could eventually be costing me ALOT of money. also they never said it will be subscription and it was cause a major backlash for players who will be basically losing their game that they already payed for.
also it would lose alot of customer base, since most people dont want to pay for a subscription. just look at how elder scrolls online did, they were charging for the game and also for subscription fee.
also there will be expansions such as planetary landings and ship interiors that will basically be costing us. i'm sorry its just a bad idea for the majority of the consumer base.

Won't pay subscription fees for ANY game.

That was one of the first things I checked when I heard that they were re-doing Elite. If it had needed a subscription then I wouldn't have bought it even though I love the game.

I'll be quite happy to pay one off fees for expansion packs etc. though.

As things are, no. It's a single player game with little or no sense of progression, permanence, or community.

However, had it been the case that ED had been designed from the ground up as a subs game with a significant multiplayer element then yes, absolutely. As far as I'm concerned, it's far and away the best funding model for any kind of long term multiplayer game and I have no problem whatsoever shelling out the price of a few beers a month for such things. Subs models give game designers the freedom to try and do stuff that's worthwhile, whereas up front fee plus DLC means they're forced into packaging up functionality in such a manner as to make it saleable in chunks (read as "You can't have that yet because we want you to pay for it later"). Don't even mention free-to-play...

agreed subscription games are horrible and not ever worth the money. there is never enough content to spend past 60$ on a mmo.....thats a year of gaming. compare any mmo to lets say gta 5 which has solo campaign and multiplayer....
there are plenty of games that sustained themselves with expansions, and im totally fine with that.

Nope, simple as.. the only reason I still play Eve is because I can make enough in-game currency to buy subscription with it, i.e plex

I will never pay any kind of subscription by principle. BUT I will pay for frequent quality add ons for my favorite game ! Atmospheric flight, planetary landing, FPS mode in ships/station, Atefact search in the galaxy, grab life sample in my ship to bring it back to human bubble. Here is my point. Long live Elite.

No, never! I paid 60 € at beta phase and some paint jobs which you can't see because of the lack of an external view. I paid the 60 € because I loved Elite and Frontier (C-64, Amiga 4000), but Elite Dangerous still feels like alpha version 0.something. As soon as they think about asking for money again, I'm out of Elite, and if they ask for money for planet landings and other stuff they promised to be included in the game I bought, then I'm out too.

As far, I feel not happy with the game. There is much to do and progress seems very slow.

I also wouldn't pay for a subscription.
But- don't fear. They won't and can't do that (the game was sold as free of subscription).

But I would love to see more in the shop than just some textures. Maybe diffing models or "nice to have but unnecessary" Features, like 3rd Person view or advanced comfort features (Break - Assist, Autopilot, Trade-Calculator, mark/link galnet-news to the galaxymap...)

they did not promise you planetary landings or ship interiors it was made very clear in the beginning that planetary landings will only be for paid expansions. and so will ship and station interiors.

braben made it clear that if you want to see the outside of the ship you would have to leave it and look at it from the outside "including in space" ;)

No, not for this current game, and from what ive seen so far with updates and patches i would NEVER EVER pay a sub for this game.

Sorry but you ARE out then!. :(

right from kickstarter planetary landings and other major content like that was always going to be extra paid for DLC, so unless you got the season pass, which for 60 euros you did not, you are out of luck.

No - not in it's current state and they've had more than enough money to make this game feature rich now - if you can't make a game with over £12 million ($18 million) then you're an idiot.

If they add in things to let the players actually affect the galaxy and build stations and support hundreds of players then yes but I don't think it's going to be £5 a month.

I suppose, having a few quid to spare at the moment, for once in my life.... I personally wouldn't mind being able to buy a new ship cash, or the credits to buy and equip one.. But that would make me just another overgunned noob, like you see on World of Tanks etc.

As for subscriptions? Nope, I do that in a few other things, and all I see is fat, greedy developers getting lazier and not taking the time to improve the product, while raking in the cash. Maybe I am wrong, but an upfront purchase like ED, will live or die depending on reputation. And if all the people tire of it, and move onto something else, There is always solo lol.

Happy to keep buying expansions and extras to support the company but I would need to see something extraordinary to pay a monthly fee. I play open and live in Australia, I have only ever seen 2 other commanders in game. If ED could put hundreds of gamers in same game then maybe it would be worthwhile??

No, I would not pay a sub for this game.

I would pay a sub for a game I deemed was delivering enough to warrant the expenditure, as I've done that in the past. So no moral objection to subs, just the product has to be worth it.
