would you pay a subscription for ED?

No. I boycott all games that are subscription based, all games with early DLC and if i see the words "season pass" i also work actively to discredit the game when i can. Those publishing models are shady and greedy and should die. I pay for the product, and sometimes i pay a lot (hello Steel Bests PE), but when i have bought it i am only ok with buying modules, not greedily packaged DLC's and/or subscriptions. Anything other than that and your not selling a product, your selling a pyramid scheme. The worst of it all is things like World of Tanks and the like, where you pay to win. That, in a competetive game is just disgusting and i hope they go bankrupt for it.

As it stands, absolutely not. I'm in the position of hoping that 1.2 brings enough to the field to make me want to play... but, being honest, I'm not confident. If DLC was free of charge, I'd consider a subscription, but the game is missing too much for me to even think about it at the moment.

As the game was bought on a buy the game and play for free understanding I don't think it would ever happen. Personally I would feel that I had been mis-sold if I suddenly had to pay a fee not advertised at time of purchase. I could possibly see new areas of the game that require a subs model, on top of a paid DLC, but would not be a fan of this.

I would favour 'limited' micro transactions beyond what we currently have in the store. There are many things that could be sold without impacting on the game of others i.e. NOT pay to win. The store is very underused at the moment which has surprised me, I would pay for computer voice packs, extra commander slot, system to sydtem ship transfers etc but all we currently have is paintjobs that are all but invisible in game.

The store has seen a few changes since launch and has just has a cosmetic facelift so I think we may yet see this expanded to fund the game better

Happy to keep buying expansions and extras to support the company but I would need to see something extraordinary to pay a monthly fee. I play open and live in Australia, I have only ever seen 2 other commanders in game. If ED could put hundreds of gamers in same game then maybe it would be worthwhile??

I'm all for buying expansions, but they really should include professionally written STORY line progression missions.

In the meantime, selling ships that might fit differently or look different cosmetically but don't offer much advantage over game earned ones might help them out. No one really sees your paint job, not even the pilot. Other games succeed at selling surprise boxes that contain items with chance of rare item and/or credits, which is evil for gambling addicts, but probably makes them money.

Each to their own, I guess it is good we are all different as it would make forums to be a dull place otherwise, however, IF we are going to accept that DLCs are the reality of gaming these days (and for the longest of times I argued that I wanted a complete package for my 1 off payment and to save the DLC for a sequel) however imo DLCs are here to stay.

With this in mind, I actually think that a season pass is actually the least offensive way of selling DLCs so long as the season pass covers ALL major game expansions (I am happy to let cosmetics go on this). This way I just add the season pass onto the price of the game. It puts the price up, sure, but that way I KNOW how much I am paying to get the full game experience and decide at what point that price is worth it for me.

but what I think is the lowest of the low, is what Gearbox/2K did with Borderlands 2. The released the season pass, which I duely bought and then they released a bunch of game content outside of the season pass..... That is the stuff of con men imo..... not the season pass in and of itself.

just my 2p

I would pay £10 a month IF it was server/client and Open Only with a new account.
FD would have to write new netcode, but that's good because the current netcode is horribly broken from the ground up. They'd also be able to put in some functioning cheat detection.

Of course, the current (horrible, broken, exploitable) setup would have to continue for people who don't want to pay a sub so you'd end up with two different game worlds running in separate instances. It would be divisive but I think in the long run it would help FD to keep the game running and develop new content.

New players could make the choice of buying the game outright for the P2P version or subbing to the Open game world. Perhaps there should be the option of a one time, one way port between instances for NEW people who chose the wrong version at purchase.. that would be a marketing/customer support issue.

Not this again.
Like I said in all other threads: if you want to pay Frontier money every month then setup your bank to do a standing order to their account. I'm sure they will give you the details.

leave us people who have bills to pay, car to run and a spose in our lives to play without more pay.

It would be a "no" for me. I love the game (even its flaws [that I'm sure will get addressed]) but I don't have opportunity to play often enough to justify a subscription. The cost/hour would be too high in my opinion.

Heck, I'm still raging about the idea of having paid 40 frigging quid for an unfinished game and then the developers having the gall to say they are going to charge f]me extra for the rest of the game.

Subscription?!
Get out....

Not sure why you are raging at FD, they stated pre release what features were making it to launch, what would be added for free post launch and have always said the game would be DLC funded. I feel your rage should be aimed at a lack of pre purchase research, there were/are many youtube previews and gameplay videos and FD never imposed an NDA so nothing was really hidden.
I agree with no subscription though...not part of the deal

Pay for what? Trading tekst, shooting tekst and explore to put your sticker on a star?
It's a nice game but i rather spend my money on beer with some friends

Well I'd rather continue to have Elite D to play once I get back from the pub. If that means subs then I'm all for it.

Only if they first deliver on the offline-mode. And the offline mode should obviously work without subscription as well.

Not a chance.

ED is not the kind of game I care to play with others in the first place; what I wanted from the start was the promised offline mode. If they further renege on their promises now in order to charge for a subscription I will do my best to make sure no one I know ever purchases a game from Frontier again.

Besides, the sub model requires a very high perceived value in the game, or else the game will crash and burn given the availability of other games, including MMOs, without a subscription. I don't think ED comes even close to this required perceived value.
