would you pay a subscription for ED?

That's not very nice. Or do you mean, could not care less?

Ok, if you didn't get my point I will spell it out a little more plainly for you...I have enjoyed ED, and still do from time to time. I feel I have received $150 worth of enjoyable entertainment from the game. If FDev were to shut the servers down today, it would not bother me in the least. Is that better?

If you did get the point and chose to nitpick my post, congratulations for winning the internet...

As I am a backer, never, never, never. For the new entrants, a subscription would not mind, if it is important for Frontier, one day in the future

I did get your point. The bit I was questioning was you saying you could care less. I wasnt commenting on the rest of your post, hence why I didnt include it in the quote. I refer you to this short video

My original post said this was irrelevant, but upon correction he is right...

FDEV would likely try to make excuses on why they cannot refund, until a huge storm occurs across gaming media which "forces" their hand.

This is why I am against subs, not from a funding purpose, but rather it would create ill will and cause far more issues for FDEV than they could possibly take in via subs.

Correct.

In the EU (and very likely elsewhere) a company cannot introduce a sub-model or put existing digital content behind any form of paywall if it's not described in detail what that entails at release time. It's now (since last June) a serious offence to do that with digital content. So even FD would not try that one on IMO, because they would end up in very hot water. That's why you often see a previously subbed game go F2P (ESO say) but never the other way around, it's selling under false pretenses. "take this free thing", then when the buyer is on the hook, "BTW you now have to pay a monthly charge". It's simply illegal.

5$ a month to continue to do the same nothing that is currently available in game?

Yeah no.

If the game ever becomes 100x the size it already is in terms of content, then I'd consider it.

As it is, 60$ for a text adventure, that lacks the adventure and only supports the dog fighting mechanics is pushing it.

Only was good at first when the "Oh my god a modern space sim" was still a feeling.

I would have considered it if it was on the cards originally, but now it's been released as a no sub game - not likely. I'd be extremely concerned if these came up even as a casual suggestion by FDEV as they may as well just shoot ED dead if they pull a stunt like that. Elite just doesn't have the features to justify a sub model.

On the other hand, if they were to re-release E: D a few years down the line as a sub model with dedicated servers allowing true MMO play, and all the features like group mechanics and comms working properly to boot, along with quality directed PVE and PvP events and content then I'd be interested. But only if the current model remains online in a well maintained working fashion.

Couldn't do a poll as I'm on my phone, but there's the question, I personally would if meant to secure longevity of the game, ensuring bigger better updates, allowing the game to expand into what could be the game we want it to be, ensures costs for server maintenance etc, I would quiet happily pay a fiver a month for this, what do you reckon?

YES! Make this game Free2Play/Subscription!

Free2Play where you can order a subscription like in all of these games. Subscription user should get money boosts and faction rep boost. All addons are included and all ship skins.

People without subscription get less money and rep, they can only do 5 missions a day and their trade routes get faster down, but over all they are allowed to play. xD

Come on guys, i buyed the FULL game, so i want to get the full game.

Don't forget they don't have as good insurance, and their ship can only run for three jumps at a time without breaking down.

NO!. if they make it a subs model for new people going forward, well that is up to FD, but I already paid £115 for the game BECAUSE it promised no subs. As I knew I was getting the complete game content I threw in a little extra.

I have no interest in ever paying a monthly sub on any game.... even Elite.. It rewards people who have no other commitments and punishes those with a job, family and other stuff who can only grab an hr here and there. MAYBE if it had been paying for blocks of 100hrs gametime, I would have gotten onboard, assuming the game had no / or very small upfront cost, but now given what I have already paid, I would not do that either.

but its not going to happen so its moot. :)

Well said - I agree.

Im actually quite suprised Eve and that other one with swords even manage to exist anymore using the sub system - don't these players have wifes checking the cc bill.

Fairly certain that'd be illegal, since we've sort of already paid for the game. Once walking around your ship becomes possibly, I'd wager to say that cosmetic stuff (that you can buy in the shop) will become a lot more relevant- as you'll actually be able to see it, which means that more people will buy it.
