would you pay a subscription for ED?

1-I kickstarted for ELITE (125 GBP)
2-Was promised single player
3-Got forced online mode DRM instead
4-Got tacked on P2P multiplayer
5-Got broken co-op (wings)
6-Got abysmal multiplayer instancing

And you ask me if I would pay a monthly fee?

I would rather french kiss the company president of EA.

None of the above apply but is the EA guy still up for it ☺

there was a time that yes - first week when I was fascinated with a game. But now? When I'm looking at this title from distance - No. There is just not enough in this title that I would even consider paying anything extra than original price.

If it meant that we'd get a fully immersive game, planetary landing, walk about the ship and space stations, a real economic system, expansion and colonization of the galaxy, extending space travel beyond the milky way, better and more attention to detailed mods for your ships, better ship selections that actually feel like they matter, better ship designs, Power play that isn't reset every week but is continued to evolve naturally; then yeah I would definitely subscribe to this game. I think others are correct when they say that they wouldn't want to subscribe to a game that feels unfinished.

Still love the game, and I think it has great potential, but it could use vast improvements in certain areas.

If this game had more content, didn't force me to play with things like rep decay, didn't waste my time with 20 minute shield-recharge times... perhaps.

As it is, I won't even go near the decal store until Frontier actually starts making things accessible again to people with less time on their hands.

No chance. I already paid double to test their game in Beta and develop future DLC. Not one more brass penny. No skins, no add-ons, nada.

IF there was a separate open only server/simulation with server side net code, and massively improved instancing I would pay 15$/m w/o question.

Even if they wanted to, I'm not sure they could ever change it, they would probably run afoul of consumer protection acts.
Bait & switch is frowned upon in many countries.

I would pay a modest subscription if
1. Others don't have to (the game remains buy-once to people who aren't super-fans)
2. I get something extra for it, but not something that defeats others. For example, a custom paint-job editor for my ships. Custom paint-jobs (or whatever) are only in effect when I'm paying subscription.

This example (paint) adds an extra element for me to do with the game, and also some in-game faux-"status" in the sense that it's possible for another player to recognize from my ship's paint that I'm a super-fan. At the same time it doesn't give me an edge in combat.

Other "extra" things it could buy that aren't pay-to-win (or are such minor advantages that it's not frustrating for anyone to not pay and not gain) might be permit to a subscribers-only system with a rare commodity (ie nice and useful and exclusive, but not anything that regular players can't do elsewhere), maybe a shipyard with some mild discounts - little bonus stuff that ultimately doesn't make much real difference but makes me feel special. A real-world discount on buying paint in the Elite store. Stuff like that.

I might. But under 3 conditions ,
1 if it is cheap. 5 -7US dollars, I can't afford much
2 if it was optional,
3 if they gave you something in return, like an exclusive paint job each month, or access to all other paint jobs, or a " premium cockpit " something superficial but still interesting.

I'm not sure,

I was totally a while back, that is before I had the experience of Guild wars 2. That game is same model as this and works very well although they didn't do something as short sighted as nerf multiplay forever (well unless some very major changed take place that is I cant see happening)

I really am not sure if the decision to go p2p was because it was only meant to be slightly multiplay ? or totally to save cash.

Net result, well threads like open verses solo threads.

Plain preposterous imho, game has no idea what it is, and nor do I but hey there is a lot cleverer and happier people on here so who am I to complain.

So actually I am sure.

No way with multiplayer the way it is
