XBox Elite 2 controller - No force feedback

Hi CMDR's,

Just migrated to the PC platform "mac Running Bootcamp" from my PS4 and I had a question.

I've gone and purchased a new Xbox Elite 2 controller and during my play through of the on foot Odyssey introduction, I didn't have any kind of force reedback whilst using the controller, nothing whilst shooting lazers or using the other utilities, is this normal?

Being a PS5 gamer, I'm so used to controller feedback it seems odd to not have it.

Thanks,

Nick

There's an XBox controller with force-feedback? I've never heard of such a thing. I just want to make sure, are you talking about the vibrate / rumble function that controllers like DS4 provide, or are you talking proper "stick resists being pushed in a particular direction" force feedback typically reserved for advanced flight sticks and steering wheels?

Yes, the PC version of the game, for some reason, does not support any rumble functionality of game controllers, even though it does on consoles. This can be quite aggravating if you have played for a long time on console and then move to the PC. Not having that tactile feedback takes some time to get used to. (I wish I didn't have to get used to it, I really liked the tactile feedback, and I really wish they added support on the PC side as well. It shouldn't be so hard given that the game already supports it on consoles.)

Same goes for gyroscopic headlook and touchpad support on PS4 controllers, which I feel is a huge oversight by Frontier, but after nagging them on this topic for over a year, I finally just gave up.

...
I can live in hope that one day this will be added...!!!

I believe those could be emulated using DS4Windows with associated keybinds. I've never had any use for those options, so I don't have any experience with them. I only use basic functionality of DS4Windows for a handful of games.

I have heard of people "hacking" together a headlook using tools like this, but I question if it would be as smooth and responsive as what Frontier created specifically for the DS4 gyroscope on PS4. It baffles me that Frontier doesn't use the code they already have (be it gyroscopes or rumble feedback) for consoles on the PC side of the game. Surely they know that many people, even on PC, use controllers. 🤦‍♂️

what I find odd is it's part of direct x api the very excellent red dead redemption 2 uses it which is great fun when fishing...…………(DEVS going the extra mile)
and I swear blind it actually did work when ed was in beta briefly in early 2014 especially noticeable when in the mouth of an orbis letterbox if mem serves correctly and no not just remembering the console version as I have never owned one
pity that
as for the x box controller itself I personally prefer it to any Hotas (quick rapid opposite lock of axsis being handy in FA off once mus mem settled which admittingly took time to master the small inputs required)

Kind of reminds me of the fact that all the major consoles, during at least the last two generations, perhaps three, have had native support for USB mice and keyboards out-of-the-box (eg. if you connect a USB keyboard you can write text in any program or game that uses text input, and the mouse is supported in some apps and a few games), but for a reason that I will never comprehend no first-person shooter game has ever and will probably never support mouse&keyboard on consoles (even though the exact same game exists on the PC as well, obviously with mouse&keyboard support).

And I mean, not even for single-player mode. Not even if the game is single-player only, with no multiplayer of any kind.

They just outright refuse to add support, and I have never heard a single reason why, good or bad.

Some console games do have support, but extremely few. This seems to be more the case on the PlayStation side than on the Xbox side. There are significantly more games that support M&K on Xbox than on PS. (Sometimes the exact same game will have M&K support on Xbox but not on the PS... go figure.) However, even there the list is relatively short. There are tons and tons of games, especially first-person shooters, that outright refuse to add support (even for single-player mode, or even if the game is single-player only.)
