Newcomer / Intro Yoke instead of Stick?

Anyone here using a yoke as a control? Are you successful in your dog-fights? Does it help when maneuvering large ships?

Not to be confused with a "yolk"... :)

OP: Most people use fighter-style sticks, I suspect that a yoke might be a bit cumbersome at speed. Often they use a fighter-style stick, and a throttle, with extra useful controls, something like this:

dunno, looks like it would be hard... But maybe it would be better than a mouse and keyboard... i found almost everything works beter than a mouse and keyboard.
Lacking a flightstick,, i use a ps2 game pad, has just enough buttons to do everything i need, save for Deploying landing gear, and manage sub systems. but both of those are easy enough to control with the keyboard. (space for landing pad, Arrow keys for sub systems)

I too have wondered about this, I suspect a stick will be more responsive or quicker at change of roll/pitch etc. That combined with a lack of buttons makes me think that yokes aren't great for twitch style flight games. I'd like to be proven wrong though.

I suspect a flight yoke would be good for general flight control but may be a bit cumbersome for throwing a ship around in a fight.

Unless you can use it one-handed, you'd be at a disadvantage against players who use HOTAS controllers. Even in Solo play, you just have access to so many more controls using a HOTAS setup.

But, if you prefer it, go for it; that's all that matters. Just don't be surprised if your in-game avatar keeps using the stick! ;)
