For the two of you that answered 4k are you saying that's what you plan to play it on or what you are using now?

Apparently a 680 and a 7970 can handle it, although they suggested an SLI/Crossfire setup would really be required, unless of course you like low framerates!

3840 x 2048 here.... however as i've said elsewhere i hope the game's monitor-agnostic, getting the available resolutions from the system and scaling the aspect ratio and FOV using a simple algorithm.

It's impossible to hardcode a preset list of supported screenmodes that'll cover everyone's needs...

Well, the question says "will"

A poll that allows multiple answers would be better. I have several computers with different monitors from my dev pc with twin monitors to my media centre connected to a 48" 1080p TV. I play games on all of them and they don't all support the same resolutions. I posted the resolution of the one I mostly use for games but I expect it might have new monitors by the time ED arrives.

Voted for Full HD since that's my current max resolution. Game won't be out until March next year so I don't know if I'll upgrade before then but unlikely.

I selected wrong one, I got twin monitors 1080x1200.

Great for the web development I do and playing Baldur's Gate.

I had to downgrade years ago from a lovely 2048x1536 CRT to a boring 1080p LCD.
Damn you manufacturers holding back the industry for no reason
Us PC users should all have huge resolutions by now.

Actually, for typical setups, 720p is perfectly fine, and 1080p is as high as you need to go. Even people with 20-20 vision can only resolve about 60 pixels per degree, meaning that for most screen sizes and viewing distances anything more than 1080p is kinda wasted.

Check this link :). It shows a chart of diagonal screen size vs distance, showing where each resolution kicks in.

2560x1400 HD6970 (on a Dell U2711) for main gaming PC but also have a 2012 MBP with the 1050 screen which I'm hoping can also run it decently. I'll likely upgrade the 6970 before the game is released because playing ED in anything other than ultra shiny goodness is unimaginable to me.

Not the faintest idea at this moment, because I've to buy a new computer to play ED.
I don't think, ED will play very well on my HP Ultra Slim Desktop.:p

The various computers here use various monitos.
vga 800x600 up to full HD
It could be nice to access multiple graphics cards and multiple screens scattered variously on my home ethernet; maybe having the full HD forward view for combat on the linux i5 2400 pc which is actually running dangerous and another screen somewhere on vga for trading, navigation planning or rear-gunning, possibly by ssh vnc.

Difficult to do though, and unprecedented.

I haven't voted in hopes the Oculus Rift is ready, well received and supported by the game. So my resolution will be whatever the Rift is running at upon final release.

More polls like this please.

Imagine if FD made the game and it was strictly 320x200 or that new fangled cinema 4K ? terrible ! TERRIBLE !

Also DB if you are paying attention, I just wanted to let you know I have setup a little shrine to you in the corner of my "office".

You know that since the charts only go to 20:20 vision, most people can actually go further than that?

when you look at screens, 2020 is a very conservative number. so really, its still a case of more res = better in my opinion. ;)

Yes, 20:20 vision is just on an arbitrary scale and people can have better vision than this. I actually remember seeing this on Johnny Ball! (Remember him?) Some people may have 22:20 vision, or higher even. An eagle probably has 400:20 vision. :D The Hubble telescope probably has 8000:20 vision. ;)

I wonder what an eagle can see when it looks at the stars at night?..

Funny thing is, I've got better than 20:20 vision, even though I wear glasses. I'm slightly short-sighted, so without glasses on have better than normal close-to vision. Wearing my glasses, I've got better eyesight than your average fighter pilot - the optician said I was in around the top thousandth of the population. They still wouldn't let me fly the F15 though...

I voted for WQXGA 2560×1600 (4096k) 16:10; am aiming for minimum, WQHD 2560×1440 (3686k), however if I could afford it I would opt for either of the following 16:9 QWXGA+ 2880×1800 (5184k) 16:10, or 4K UHD 3840×2160 (8294k) 16:9. However this is unlikely :( as 4K, is an emerging technology and those monitors are not cheap.
