Hardware & Technical Your Game System Spec

My current system specs were high end a few years ago.. I'll be building a new PC shortly before E:D is released.
In fact I don't game on PC at all lol.. I only utilize my GFX card for applications and demoscene related material really.
This will change come 2014 :)

CPU : i7 975X
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce 580
SSD: Intel 520 256GB SSD x 2
RAM: 12GB DDR3 1600 Mhz
OS: Win7 x64
internet speed: VM 100MB

Having really seen any games to push my rig unless you start using some of the more funky AA options like Farcry 3 has.

My next upgrade is likely to be either a 3770K Ivy Bridge and Asus mobo or I may even wait for the new Haswell stuff to come online.

I'll be playing it all initially using bootcamp on my iMac (quad core i5, 2.7Ghz, 8Gb Ram etc). I don't see this game hugely pushing that.. as they say, space is "mostly black" afterall ;)

A bit outdated but still can play some nice things:

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo e6750 2.66 Ghz
RAM: 2 GB DDR2-800
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce 7950GT
HDD: Western Digital Caviar Blue 500 GB 7200rpm
OS: Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3

I upgrade some component every year, but the gap between upgrades gets longer - PCs are so fast now anyway.

My gaming PC:
i7 2500K @ 4GHz, running windows 7
Nvidia GTX560ti @ 900MHz
12Gb ram (ram is cheap).

Razer Diamondback mouse
Saitek Cyborg Evo Force joystick

My everyday use PC:
An i3 running Kubuntu.

Mine is in my Sig and should easily be able to play ED fully maxed out with atleast 4xMSAA and a constant 60fps at all times.

I wont be upgrading anything.:)

My simple Rig

Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30
4GB RAM,
Nvidia GTX570 Graphics card
8 TB storage
22" 2ms Samsung Monitor 1680x1050
Roccat Kone + mouse
Wireless windows xbox controller

also got it linked up to a 50" Panasonic 3D TV for Steam Big Picture so i will be looking forward to playing Elite on my Plasma with 5.1 surround sound.

2009 Mac Pro
8-core Nehalem 2.29GHz
8GB RAM
Radeon HD 4870 512Mb
SSD + multiple RAIDed disks
24" Display
Thrustmaster T-Flight Hotas X joystick

I'll probably stick another 16GB RAM in before the game emerges, and upgrade graphics to a Radeon HD 5870 1GB despite the mac version costing a fortune despite being ancient.

However the mrs is co-owner of a pair of computer shops, so she's speccing me something on the lines of

i5 2500k 3.3 (seen these easily overclocked to 4.3 with the right cooler)
Asus Gen3 mobo
16GB corair vengence
2 x 7200 SATAIII's for OS
1 x ssd for games

and somepoint later in the year looking to a Nvidia 690 or maybe a new 700 series, for when ED comes out.

Am thinking nearer the time your Mrs could end up selling a shedload of ED-ready machines to the clueless like me who last played Elite on a BBC B (still got that warhorse, and still play Elite on it!) and haven't really bothered with needing game-ready PCs ever since. My PC is at least 8 years old... and I don't want to throw myself on the mercy of high-street chains, or immerse myself in geekery learning what I need between now and then. I just want someone to sell me the right machine at the time!

heh. I love these types of questions. For this game, I will build a machine that best matches its requirements. A lot can happen tech-wise in 13 months...

Now there's an Idea. It's her business, I work in IT for the NHS, however being a gamer for many years I did all the modding etc. I could get a mould made of a cobIII, IMP courier (maybe too hard) and say a Viper. Then take orders for Elite Dangerous computers, either Bare case, Bare bones or full spec. :D

Drawing board out....

Boss says "hey you're here to work not sketch"

I say "sod you, *£&^ your job, this is for the millions of Elite players out there"

Marched off the premisis

Can't afford new PC for myself for ED now so can't play :'(

As Jon had suggested my mrs selling Elite machines, while on phone at work I did a quick sketch.

I've got a 3d aurora case http://www.bjorn3d.com/2005/07/gigabyte-3d-aurora-case-review/ and thought how a cobra mkIII would fit it.

here's a scanned in pencil sketch of my thoughts. The fuel scoop will be over the side vent (glowing blue) the exhausts will be over the rear fans (glowing blue), the cockpit will be over the front intake (glowing blue)

as all the vans on the PC are blue LED's. Going to have to make this I think.

I have a big computer, it's in a black case, it's nice and fast and has a big screen. I like blue lights so it has a couple of them too, not too many though. I'll be playing E: D on it for sure, and I might make it even better for release too!
