Hardware & Technical Your Game System Spec

Hi all,

What system spec do you think you will be using ED on?

I will be using a laptop, how well do you think it will do?

CPU : i7 2.3 Quad
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M
SSD: 256GB SSD
RAM: 16GB DDR3 1600 Mhz
OS: Win7 x64
internet speed: BT Infinity 72Mb

I'm not sure if I will use a mouse or joystick.. what do you think.

My spec recently updated below.

As I think I said on an earlier thread somewhere, on the Star Citizen website they have posted some early min/recommended specs for running the game. I can imagine that E D would not be a million miles from these.

Not a mouse! I had TIE Fighter back in the day (demo I think), but could never play it until I finally bought a joystick. The devs are using Xbox controllers, so I'd go for one of those to use with a laptop - reasonable price, good quality, and portable. Your specs look good to me...

My current specs are:
Processor - Intel Core i5 3570K
Ram - 16gb 1600mhz DDR3 (9-9-9-24)
GFX - Sapphire Radeon HD 7750 1gb (passively cooled)
SSD - Samsung 830 series
OS - Windows 8 x64
Monitor - Samsung 24" plus LG 17"

Gamepad: Xbox 360
Keyboard: Microsoft Sidewinder X4
Mouse: Sharkoon Rush3d

There's a possibility I'll end up swapping the GFX card when the time comes, though it will still have to be quiet, as I don't want to compromise my PC's 'silent' status. Also, I'm running low on hard-drive space, so I'll probably have bought a second one by the time Elite is released.

If I'm feeling cash rich, I might splash out on a decent joystick, if it looks like they're the way to go. May well buy another monitor 27" at some point as well.

Is it a Samsung laptop ? :D

Those specs will be perfect (imo) ... Might need a faster internet connection though - 72Mb seems a little slow ;):D

Frontier
CPU: Intel i7 3770k @ 3.5Ghz
Ram: 32GB Corsair; CMZ16GX3M2A1600C10
Mobo: Asus P8Z77-V
GPU: XFX Radeon HD 6870 (this thing can roast bacon!):D
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate

I have an SSD, but it's not really used for anything except for rapid file transfer on the lan. :)

 No not a Samsung... I will give you a clue, my native res is 1440 x 900. I think my max is 2560 x 1920.

Can you guess what it is yet!!

On a laptop ?! No idea mate ... ermm .. Apple Mac ? (Pure guess)

(I thought Samsung as mine is and has the same spec - HD screen though 1920x1080 native)

The stats of your laptop look fine, but I have to admit to some skepticism regarding laptop graphics cards the last few years. The last two laptops I've owned have both had dedicated graphics cards, from both NVidia and ATi, decent cards for when I bought them.

And they've both sucked.

The ATi in particular just ran like a three-legged dog (<20fps in WoW of all things, never mind anything actually demanding), and ran hot enough to shut the machine down after a few minutes of gaming. The Nvidia in my current laptop seems to manage gaming well enough from a performance standpoint, but it also runs so damn hot I'm concerned about cooking components in the long run if I try any real 3D gaming with it.

I recognise that a desktop solution is suitable for everyone, but I'll definitely be sticking to a desktop for the vast majority of my gaming, including E: D and Star Citizen, when they're released.

Currently I'm running an i5 (2400 I think?), on a stock Intel Sandy Bridge board, with 8gb of (cheap) RAM. The graphics card I recently upgraded from a GTX 275 to a GTX 560Ti, which made a *big* difference, I must say. The chances are I'll still be using the same machine in the 18-24 month period it takes for E: D & SC to be released, and I can imagine it'll run both titles quite acceptably. The one upgrade I'd like to make is from a SATA drive to an SSD, but those are really expensive, so we'll have to see closer to the time.

Yeah, you got it, Mbpr 15". How does your Samsung like playing games, as we have the same GPU. Youtube videos seem fine, whats your thoughts?

I like the idea of the post above about the Xbox controller, I have just bit on a
XBOX 360 Wireless Gaming Receiver. Thanks for the tip!

EVE, Diablo 3, Path of Exile (awesome game btw) - all max settings no problem.

(Adding an SSD drive helped mind with loading times between zones)

Can't comment on ATI - had one a long time ago and it was terrible, switched to NVida in my main computer / laptop and never looked back. You have to be careful though with NVidia laptops as some come with the Optimus chipset which is terrible .. switching to 3D games can be a nightmare and Linux - forget it!

For cooking your laptop consider getting one of the cooler trays - helps massively :)

Thats very good news, thanks for that info. I havent been playing PC games for many years! (Xbox 360) So i'm out of date on graphics cards.

This one : http://www.samsung.com/us/computer/laptops/NP700G7C-S01US

However, by the time 2014 rolls round expect better & faster for less :)

ETA: If you're going to upgrade to a PC / Laptop to play ED I would suggest you wait until nearer the time and then ask the opinions from people on here .. far more knowledgeable people on here than me about stuff - I just ask my work mate who's a total gadget freak :D

Only running a quad i5 + 16gb ram + 1tb SATAII HD + NTX260 gcard at the moment - but to be fair it runs everything I play fine.

I tend to wait as long as I can bear before upgrading (you get so much more for your money).

By game launch hope to be running i7+16gb+256gb SSD + new Gcard but I am pretty sure my existing specs wont be an issue anyway.

I reckon an i3 + decent gcard + 8gb Ram would be good enough to run the game at 1080p.

AMD A8-3800 - 4 x 2.4Ghz cores
12.0 GB Ram
Win 7 (64bit)
Nvidia 530GT 2GB GFX CRD
2TB HD
24" Samsung monitor (2 millisec response) and 40" 1080p Toshiba LED TV

i reckon this machine will run it fine... but i will buy another machine if it cant do Ultra setting... keeping the old machine as a storage depot

Nice rig. If anything you could get a 2nd 530GT and SLI them together if you find it does not run smooth (although a single upgrade in 2014 would be better and use the 530GT as a physics card if ED supports it)

was thinking a better card... but not sure what the mainboard restrictions are and would probably need a better psu (currently 350)

my current computer runs games like diablo3 in full graphics excellently, but i'm already saving for a new one which i'll proberly buy close to alpha testing start, looking to spend about £3k-£3.5k, saved around £2.4k so far, without including my £800 pledge! :p will look at various options then, i must admit i perfer a desktop to laptop, though i like the idea of being able to take your main gaming computer around with you! do laptops have res support for more than 1920x1080?

Current rig is an Intel i5-2500K (@4.2GHz) on ASUS P8Z68V-Pro, 8GB Corsair RAM (8-8-8-24), Gainward Phantom GTX 680, 256GB Corsair m4 SSD.

Will probably upgrade to 16GB RAM, a 512GB Samsung 840 Pro SSD and a GTX 780 next year. And probably get a new min 27" - max 30" LCD, too. Current one is a 24" IPS Dell U2412M.

Next major upgrade (board + CPU + possibly DDR4-RAM when it's available by then) is not planned to happen before Broadwell (the 14nm 'tick' shrink of Haswell).
