Hardware & Technical Your Game System Spec

Currently

AMD Athlon x2 4200+
4GB DDR2
GTX460 1GB MSI Nvidia (was 7800GT 256Mb Nvidia only 2 days ago)
and 4 x 7200 SATAII WD Caviar's in Raid 0.

However the mrs is co-owner of a pair of computer shops, so she's speccing me something on the lines of

i5 2500k 3.3 (seen these easily overclocked to 4.3 with the right cooler)
Asus Gen3 mobo
16GB corair vengence
2 x 7200 SATAIII's for OS
1 x ssd for games

and somepoint later in the year looking to a Nvidia 690 or maybe a new 700 series, for when ED comes out.

Specs are in sig, although I may transfer the 480 to my T7400 workstation which is running dual quad Xeon's @ 3.2Ghz.

Really don't understand this fixation with silly amounts of RAM though, anything more than 8Gb and you're risking a sprained tongue ;) unless you're doing some serious CAD or CGI work that is.

E2A: Learn something new everyday; apparently Planetside 2 will utilise more than 8Gb.

some people especially those with solid state drives, like to disable pagefiling to decrease the amount of times the os they are running accesses the ssd, to save on wear and tear, which means they need to have lots more memory! which is why you get people that put stupid amounts of ram in! ;)

Intel i5 2500K @ 4.4 gHz
Nvidia GTX 460
8Gb DDR3
250Gb SSD
Win7 Ult x64
Smug look on face ;)

A mate of mine has just OC'd his 2500k to 4.3GHz

Just asked the missus to get into her shop with next order.

Asus P8Z68-V/Gen3 Mobo
I5 2500k (@3.3GHz)
16Gb Crucial Balistix DDR3
Sandisk SSD (going to raid0 2 of my existing WD Caviars for os, and SSD for games)

750W CIT modular PSU (at home in box)
MSI Nvidia GTX460 (oc'd at +200MHz cpu and +150Mhz RAM clock)
win7 pro x64

386 sx 25, heres hoping for a mac version so I don't have to buy a big new shiney PC

Buy one anyway you'll be able to pick up a similar spec PC to a MAC at a fraction of the cost. There is very little between them other than the OS these days anyway, the same programs are available on PC as on MAC and more are available on PC anyway and if you desperately need to have something shiny or sleek looking you can always customise it (that's when a PC becomes pricey).

I'd like to say I have nothing against MAC's but I'd be lying they are pricey pieces of over hyped machines. ;)

well actually, pc's perform better too.

Mate brought his mac to my house and complained at only getting 2mbps on speed test. I ran it on my crappy works laptop and got 17mbps. Similar tests achieved after 3 consecutive runs each. :D

Thinking of upgrading as my system is a couple years old but it is:

Intel i7 3.2 x 2 Overclocked
2 x GTX 580 in SLi
16GB Ram
Windows 7 (64 Bit)
28" Monitor

Will wait until middle of the year to upgrade I think.

Whoa! I hope that a spec like that will be more than enough for the game, especially with all those graphics cards! I'm can't even begin to financially think about upgrading until ~Skylake. My creaky old machine looks like this:

Core2 Quad Core 2.83GHz @3.4ishGHz
8GB (was gonna get 16GB but that DDR2 would have really broken the bank for no large benefit)
GTX 560 Ti
80GB SSD for OSs and certain programs + 2TB Normal Disk
Windows 7 Ultimate + Arch Linux

I want to see a game with variable settings such that someone with Macbook air could play it smoothly but at the other end of the scale I want to turn up the settings such that my gaming rig will suffer and die giving me an excuse to buy something better, currently:

i7 2600k, 3.6GHz @ 4.8 OC (IBT 2.54 stable, none of that sissy Prime95 stuff)
24Gb DDR3 (AP and Skyrim transitions are instant in a 10Gb RAM drive)
64Gb SSD system drive
2x128Gb SSD RAID0 game drive to feed the RAM drive
2xGTX 480s 700MHz @ 850 OC (Furmark multi-GPU stable @49C)
2x water pumps, 2x radiators and 17x cooling fans
Acer 27" 120Hz 3D Monitor +NV 3D Vision 2.0
Silverstone 1300W single 105A rail PSU
W7 64bit Ultimate

I want to look at Elite and go "wow" and then upgrade my system two years later and look at Elite and go "WOW!"
