only struggle with up speed :)

Currently ADSL but upgrading to fibre within a couple of weeks. I live in a place where 11 of us are sharing the same connection and it really cannot handle it.

Am green with envy (or maybe something contagious) , Like many others I am in a rural area with miles of overhead copper between me and a service/comms cabinet let alone the exchange.

Still wouldn't give up the view or the game that wanders through my garden:)

ps :have no idea why Maidenhead is always lowest ping on test,as are several test servers closer to me

You're faster than me and I'm in a capital city. :(

Heh, I've seen yours before. I still can't believe you live in a city and not the outback. ;)

Yes MAJOR city. Approx the equivalent of you living in Richmond (next to Twickenham) distance to London.

Remember, Australia has the slowest internet for a country at our level of development....or lack thereof in this case. ;-)

29ms would be fine for an FPS. It will be more than fine for this but still, it will be interesting to see how LPB and HPB's will affect gameplay for each other.

Oh dear! I assume your government is posing for the telecoms companies to improve?

I know in the UK there is a lot of talk about rural communities and promoting fast broadband.

Virgin Fibre in some parts of the Village, FTTC in some parts of the village. None of which are the part I live in. ADSL2 for me.

I've recently switched from standard BB to Fibre. FTTC

Download is 60mb
Upload is 19mb
Ping is 16-30

These tend to change a bit as it varies depending on time of day.

Love it for downloads on sky+ me and daughter are catching up on 24 before the new series starts.

Beware in rural Areas

I lived in a rural area and had a rather interesting experience recently which may be of interest.
We had BT of course and were offered a SKY deal, Dish Phone calls and Broadband.
It sounded good on paper but as soon as we changed we had a nightmare broadband connection from 3.5 up to barely 1 up. Evenings this dropped to 0.5 with 20 odd line drops per night. After many engineers coming out to check our cabling (BT engineers of course) I finally had had enough and cancelled the whole package citing the horrible broadband as the main culprit.
As soon as we returned to BT the line speed returned to normal and no line drops as per normal.
I had a good chat with the BT engineer and he told me that all BT customers will get the quickest possible speed, all other providers were bundle together on a lower speed and highly congested link.
Not particularly knocking SKY or anything but if your in a remote location and are tempted away from your normal ISP I would seek some sort of guarantee of what minimum line speed and quality you can expect.
Lets face it for most of the UK BT rule the roost...
