YOUR name in Elite! Tourist Beacon competition

Greetings Commanders,

Explorers venture into the depths of space and discover beautiful systems that most will never see. We would like to offer you the opportunity to share your best discoveries and be immortalised in Elite Dangerous.

Our plan is to place approximately 50 additional Tourist Beacons throughout the Milky Way. Therefore, we’re running this competition in-line with this week’s exploration-based Community Goal.

To enter, reply to this post with an in-system (not System Map) screenshot of the most interesting unpopulated systems containing an Earth-like world you can find! When the Community Goal ends on 30 September, we’ll choose our favourites and add Tourist Beacons to those locations. Each beacon will feature the entrant’s Commander name in its text!

To qualify, submissions must:
  • Feature a screenshot of an unpopulated system in Elite Dangerous which contains an Earth-like world
  • Include your in-game Commander name
  • Include the name of the screenshotted system
Note: Only one submission will be accepted per player. If you submit multiple screenshots, the last one will be considered your only valid entry. Entries after 14:00 BST on 30 September will not be counted. We reserve the right not to include any Commander names in Tourist Beacon text that we deem inappropriate.

While the system must contain an Earth-like world, it doesn’t have to be the focus of the image. Try to show off as many features as you can which make the system interesting and a strong potential tourist destination!

All winning entries will receive 5,000 ARX in addition to the Tourist Beacon, so get exploring!

Good luck

Tourists will love visiting these 2 Earth-like Worlds orbiting Synuefe JU-E d12-26 A. The two planets orbit each other as they travel around the parent star, and are so close to one another that each can be seen clearly while flying above one-another.

Among hundreds of water world, dozens of earth-like planets and ammonia worlds, which I've found during my journey from Colonia toward one of the universe mysteries, the most fascinating is Boelts KP-E d12-913 4. Therefore I even gave a name to this planet - Natalia (after beautiful delicate flower serving at the Mackenzie Relay as flight controller - you can hear her voice while docking at the station).
Natalia-planet is orbiting around a single young blue-white star, which means the life on the planet could not have started that long ago (astronomically speaking) and might not have as long as Earth to develop. The planet is basking in the pure white lights of the main star, yet the density of bright neighbor stars also provides enough light to let night sky of Natalia look like late evening sky on Earth... Except lot more magical evening sky...
The atmosphere is theoretically breathable for humans by composition, but the lower atmosphere pressure corresponds to approximately 5000ft on Earth, which already would cause decrease in the eye-sight at nights. Considering almost two times higher gravity I would not advise to take off helmet after just arriving even to highly trained adventurers.
How the indigenous plants have managed to populate almost while planetary surface. Due to the high gravity you probably won't find very tall trees. But those you'll would have robust structure and would look like pine-trees, I imagine. I'm looking forward to return some day soon with imperial botanists (and zoologists maybe) to study the life on this planet.

CMDR Seingalt reporting for the ELW tourist beacon competition.

First a bit of sweet "retro" 21st century music for your ears...
Dune Soundtrack

Welcome to Traikee IW-E d11-171
Screenshot_2215.jpg

An Earth Like World (ELW) system just a bit further away from the bubble than the 5Kly limit to unlock a few nice engineers. That is actually how I came across it. At the verge of the saggitarius arm, it borders a mostly unexplored region (plenty of totally undiscovered systems), not as dense as the core of course, but that still has a lot of potential despite not being that far away from the bubble.

Besides the ELW and it's terraformable moon, you'll find two landables with biological lifeforms where you can collect genetic samples. The most prolific one is orbiting the blue gas giant (Traikee IW-E d11-171 2 E) : you'll find no less than 7 life forms there ! Shrubs, Tubus towers, Stratum, Osseus, Cactoida and Bacterial colonies. That body is picturesque in it's own accord, stripped and all...

I called the ELW and it's terraformable twin 'Dan and 'Kiss' as a reference to the most relevant planets of the Dune 20th century Sci-Fi books cycle. In fact, the ELW's moon is a very deserted place with only one life form, but , where you can spot the blue gem on the horizon (see last picture where I collect a sample with both ELW, ship, main star and SRV visible).

But without further ado... here is a picturesque view of the ELW "Dan" :
Screenshot_2235.jpg

Of course, this is a very nice welcome page, but my DBX is too much of the focus here. Clearly not one of the 1% liners out there...

So I moved away a bit...
In order to land on "Kiss" in order to show you the pair of them together.

I landed on 'Kis and enjoyed the view...

Before going to visit striped body 2E to collect a few samples.

And here is my submission shot for the contest :
A view of "Dan" from "Kiss", Ship, SRV and myself inculded :

So there is everything you may want for a vacation here : incomparable pristine beaches to lie down (yes, 1.5G and 305K will make you enjoy the horizontal position even more), strange lifeforms if you want to dable in exobiology, a few very nice rings to mine for valuables to even pay for the trip, and and incredible desert waiting to spring to life !

I hope you enjoyed and will visit Traikee IW-E d11-171, beacon or not !

Planet 7 is an ELW in an unusual captured orbit around a Y-class dwarf. The standout feature in this system is body 10 with a very large ring system at 14.8 million km or almost 50 ls which can be seen with the naked eye from any planet. On a clear night on one of the many beaches visitors have an excellent view of the rings, the galactic core and 5 nebulae. Adventurous tourists can take a trip to one of the 6 moons harbouring some hardy ammonia and carbon-dioxide plants.

The ELW is planet Syralaei BD-D c12-84 D 1 out in Hawking's Gap. I got first discovery on 27 Sep 3307. The cartographic data were redeemed today, 29 Sep, at Youll Port in support of the Saud Kruger initiative. The screenshot below was taken from its moon Syralaei BD-D c12-84 D 1 A, which is similar to Earth's moon in gravity and the fact that it is tidally locked. If the moon is tidally locked, that means that a tourist beacon placed appropriately on the surface will always offer a stunning view of the planet, such as the one below. Just a suggestion... :)

I credit this video from a lunar exploration program of ancient Earth (SELENE/Kaguya) as inspiration.

See you in the black! o7

Greetings commanders, welcome aboard o7. First i would like to take a moment to remind you that this liner is in the top 1% of liners out there...

In this lovely system we find 2 Earth-like worlds within 3.4 light seconds of each other. Wregoe UO-R d4-35 10 and it's "moon" Wregoe UO-R d4-35 11 are close enough together that from the surface of 1 you can see the other with the naked eye.

I stumbled across this sleepy little ELW in a quiet backwater of the Norma Arm. On the surface this may not be the most glamorous system, but it's an undisturbed ELW just 1000ls from its F-type star and its pure, undisturbed charm (plus the fact that I went and found it especially for Saud Kruger) make it a little special.

Earth-like in the Froarks cloud nebula, great views of the planet and the nebula from it's nearby moon. This world was first jointly discovered by me (CMDR JADMURDOCH), CMDR T.PRIME & CMDR DAVE JUSTICE during the return journey from of the August Exodus - Jaunt to Jaques expedition. Very fond memories of traveling through the galaxy in our wing of a heavy laden Anaconda and two haphazardly put together Type-6's, especially happy to find this earth-like in such a fantastic looking nebula. Should make for a nice tourist site I would think. There are two landable moons but several atmospheric worlds in this system that will be future proof and very interesting in the when they become landable.

Sadly though as of yesterday only my name is appearing on the world. I visited the system a few days ago to get this shot and mapped it all as it was nearly 5 years ago we first discovered it and the probes had not yet been released. All 3 of our names were still on the planet and it's moon for first discovery but since handing in my new data their names have disappeared. I'll contact frontier help to hopefully resolve this and restore their names. Would be a shame if my new data has permenantly overwritten it somehow as it was a fond discovery.

I think this view of Kumay with Apsam on the horizon in the Ch Herculis system would get tourists to come. Visit the planet and the geysers
