(and even better if you're one of the lucky few who got a double-engineered class 4 FSD),
I thought that we had to put effort in to getting it? They were not handing them out like free candy or anything.

I suppose also, those with Cobra IVs are lucky as well, or just in the right time at the right place.

IMO, best to build different ships instead of rebuilding ships for a specific purpose when one wants to play. Though this presumes having acquired enough credits and engineering materials which might not be for everyone.
I recently had just over a billion credits, outfitted a couple of ships and ended being dang near broke... Then didn't use them.

For those of us who were lucky enough to play during the three days when you could put in the effort to get one. During that time, it was the top 75% that would get the drives, so it was mostly the luck, being at the right place (Colonia) at the right time (2021. Nov. 4-6) and much less the effort of hauling.

I have them, by the way, so it's not sour grapes for me. I'm just annoyed that Frontier haven't cared to put them to tech brokers for two years now, like they did with the class 5 drives.

Iirc they were supposed to be available to buy after the CG, so I to am annoyed a bit.

Just looked back at the CGs, it was the 2nd phase of the Colonia Bridge project Nov 2021. I think I had my alt out there unlocking the Ody Engineers to mod weapons rather than do the bubble ones again, and I think I got the rewards there as well as in the bubble. Definitely right time, right place.

An interesting point, but it's ironic that you said "a bit revisionist" right before you moved the goalposts. The question was what the Asp Scout is good for, not what the Asp Scout was good for when it was first introduced.
I was being the revisionist.

The engineering blueprint improvements in Colonia were also supposed to come back to the bubble too....

I don't recall Frontier ever saying that, though it was certainly a frequent request for a while ... but, that said, there isn't really anything on the exclusive list out here that's worth the trip.
- G5 life support (any blueprint) provides basically no useful performance gain over a stock module in most cases; the advantage over G4 is barely measurable even in theory
- G5 shielded refinery, fuel scoop and AFMU are entirely useless blueprints. No-one is going to deliberately target any of those modules, they have binary performance so the first 99% of damage can be entirely ignored, and in the event that they fall over from their share of generalised damage you'll have way more important things to worry about.
- if you can't get an initial lock on your target with a G4 interdictor, you've got bigger problems that a G5 won't solve
- the SCB blueprints ... going from G3 to G4 the half-second shortening on the window for feedback cascade might actually be worth it for high-end PvP builds flown by and against top tier pilots ... and the extra heat reduction on the other blueprint might help it fit certain niche PvE builds better. That's the one actually useful one, and it's still pretty niche.

(The advantage on the interdictor and SCB ones isn't the higher grade, it's that Brandon is far more straightforward to unlock than Lori "snake oil" Jameson)
